Chapter 11 – The Journey to the Unknown

    Leaving the Mainland

Standing at the edge of the coastline, Damian stared at the vast ocean stretching before him. This was the next step—the moment where he left the chaos of the mainland behind. The world was falling apart, but he had a plan, a vision, and the resources to make it a reality.

He accessed the System Store, scrolling through available vehicles until he found what he needed: a Nyx-Class Tactical Vessel, a high-tech, self-sustaining boat.

    [Nyx-Class Tactical Vessel]

Cost: 700 Energy Points

Features: Advanced navigation AI, reinforced hull, solar-powered backup, defensive harpoons, and modular upgrade capability.

Status: Ready-to-use, fully operational.

It was expensive, but worth it. He needed something reliable—something built for survival, mobility, and security.

    Purchase Confirmed.

A hum filled the air as the boat materialized from his Unlimited Space, landing smoothly in the water. Its sleek black frame contrasted sharply with the ruined world around them. It looked like something out of a futuristic warzone, a stark reminder that Damian was operating on a level beyond ordinary survivors.

The twins and college girls stared, speechless.

Without waiting for a reaction, Damian turned to them. “Get in.”

    Crossing the Waters

The boat cut smoothly across the waves, the hum of its engine nearly silent. The group sat in quiet contemplation as the mainland disappeared behind them. For the first time, they were truly leaving the world behind.

Elise fidgeted before finally speaking. "Where exactly are we going?"

Damian kept his eyes on the horizon. “Somewhere no one can reach us.”

That didn’t exactly comfort them, but no one pressed further.

"Why the ocean?" Claire asked hesitantly. "We’ve heard rumors about—"

"Mutated sea creatures?" Damian finished, his voice calm. "They exist. But so do raiders, zombies, and other dangers. The difference is, no one owns the ocean."

Silence followed. Rachel slowly nodded. “That’s… actually smart.”

Emma glanced warily at the water, unease creeping in. "I feel like something''s watching us."

Before anyone could respond, the boat suddenly rocked.

    The First Ocean Threat

A warning alert flashed across Damian’s HUD. [Threat Detected – Large Aquatic Lifeform Approaching]

Something huge moved beneath them, just beyond visible range.

"What the hell was that?!" Elise gasped, gripping the side rail.

Damian’s eyes remained unreadable. “A test.”

The water erupted as a mutated sea creature lunged from below—a grotesque fusion of a shark and deep-sea predator, covered in jagged, bioluminescent streaks. Rows of razor-sharp teeth gleamed as it rushed toward the boat.

Damian didn’t flinch. He activated the boat’s defense system, and two high-voltage harpoons launched, impaling the creature mid-air. Electricity surged through its body, frying its nervous system. It screeched, convulsed, then crashed back into the water, motionless.

The group stared at the floating corpse, hearts pounding.

Damian activated Identify, scanning the creature.

[Analysis Complete – Edible][Additional Findings – Energy Crystals Detected]

Without hesitation, Damian summoned eight assistant drones. They descended, securing the corpse and extracting the energy crystals embedded inside. Within moments, everything was stored in Unlimited Space.

Sophie swallowed hard. "So… we’re eating that?"

    Damian simply nodded. "Yes."

The rest of the journey continued in silence.

    About Their Role

As the hours passed, the group slowly settled into the new reality.

As the boat continued cutting through the waters, the college girls sat together near the back, their expressions unreadable. For a while, none of them spoke, but the unspoken tension was thick between them. Finally, Rachel sighed and broke the silence.

"We’re really not fighters, are we?" she muttered, glancing toward the twins, who were practicing their bladework near the stern.

Claire shook her head. "Not everyone is meant to hold a weapon."

Emma hugged her knees. "But then… how do we survive? We can’t just expect Damian to keep us around if we’re dead weight."

Rachel exhaled sharply. "That’s the thing. We can contribute—just in a different way."

    Sophie frowned slightly. "You mean…?"

Rachel gave her a pointed look. "Look at him. He’s strong, calculating, and obviously has a plan for everything. He’s not just some random survivor—he’s building something bigger. And we’re here with him."

Claire bit her lip. "You’re saying… we align with him?"

Rachel nodded. "We’re already here. We already rely on him. If we want to stay, we need to make sure we matter. And if that means being at his side in other ways… I don’t see a problem with that."

Silence followed as the idea settled in. None of them objected. None of them looked disgusted. If anything, the idea made too much sense.

That night, as they sat around a warm meal of cooked mutant shark, the girls subtly changed their demeanor—more receptive, more willing.

Rachel leaned in slightly. "We’ll take care of you, Damian. In our own way."

Damian met her gaze but said nothing. They understood their roles.

    The Oil Rig

After hours of travel, something massive appeared in the distance. What looked like a shadow at first soon materialized into a colossal oil rig, standing alone in the vast ocean.

    The group stared in disbelief.

"This… this is where we’re going?" Elise asked hesitantly.

    Damian smirked. “Home.”

The Nyx-Class Vessel docked against the platform as Damian stepped off, scanning the structure. It was rusted but intact, built to withstand storms and the elements. More importantly, it was defensible.

The others hesitated, looking around at the sheer emptiness of the structure.

Rachel crossed her arms. "So, what now?"

Damian’s eyes glowed coldly. "Now… we build."

Damian sent out his Identify drones, scanning for hidden dangers. The initial readings showed no immediate threats, but there were heat signatures on the lower levels.

    "Something’s down there," Irene noted.

Damian nodded. "Then we clear it out."

The twins immediately readied their weapons, but the college girls hung back. Rachel spoke hesitantly, "We’ll stay out of your way."

Damian glanced at them, expression unreadable. "Good."
