    Chapter 112 Nowhere to Hide

At E''s reassurance, Melody breathed a sigh of relief.

"I''m so d you''re not angry. Go have dinner. Mrs. Qi has prepared a good meal." Melody rushed her

to the dinner table and followed.

E sat at the dinner table and served herself a bowl of century egg.

When Melody sat down across her, she was puzzled for a moment and asked, "Grandma, do you want

    to eat again?"

As E spoke, she rose to get another set of tableware from the kitchen.

"Oh, no. I''m not hungry. Just enjoy your meal, my dear."

Melody grabbed her wrist to stop her. With the heater on, E had taken her coat off and was only

wearing a sweater. When Melody pulled E, her sleeve rolled up, exposing her wrist.

The bruises on E''s wrist shocked Melody greatly.

"My dear, what happened with your wrist?" She was about to roll the sleeve further up to see the rest.

Not wanting to let her grandmother see the other bruises, E hurriedly pulled away her wrist and

    covered it with her sweater.

"Grandma, I… It was an ident." She stammered as she tried to exin. There were more bruises on

her neck and other parts of her body.

They were all from Samuel. Fortunately, the heavy clothes she wore in the early winter helped hide the

bruises. With a silk scarf wrapped around the neck, the bruises remained hidden.

Melody felt heartbroken at the sight, and couldn''t figure out what happened. It was evidently marked by

    fingers. "Samuel!" Melody eximed fiercely.

E bowed her head to her congee and said, "Grandma, You think too much." Her face instantly turned

red. Even with her head down, Melody caught a glimpse of it.

"E, be honest with me. Are you unhappy with Samuel?" Melody looked at E seriously.

E hesitated. There was nothing she was unhappy about. But when Samuel became too much

sometimes, it was difficult not to get upset.

Putting down her spoon, E looked at Melody. She carefully asked, "Grandma… If I were to divorce

    Samuel, would you ept it?"

Their marriage was in serious trouble. She had no choice but to leave it.

It was getting increasingly difficult for her to please him and get on his good side.

Samuel had constantly disappointed her. How long could she stay with him, when he was neither a

    trustworthy nor gentle husband?

Melody remained silent. Continuing to eat the congee, E said, "Grandma, it was hypothetical. After

all, we have Jerry now. We can''t just easily divorce."

When E mentioned Jerry, Melody felt relieved. But she had a rough idea of what this was all about.

"Exactly, you have Jerry. If you two get divorced, Jerry would suffer the most. You need to think twice

    before doing anything."

Then Melody rose and went upstairs.

E was filled with shame as she watched Melody''s retreating back. She was too stupid to use the

word "divorce" in front of her grandmother. "Grandma is a wise woman. She must''ve fully understood

what I said and what I wanted to say." E thought.

She sighed. As her grandmother said, she had to try and get along with Samuel for Jerry''s sake.

After finishing the congee, E headed to the kitchen with the bowl in hand. Suddenly, she heard the

sound of the door of the living room opening.

Not knowing who arrived, she put the leftovers into the refrigerator with little care about the person.

She put the bowl in the sink.

She washed up quickly. When she got out of the kitchen, a man was standing in the dining room,

staring at her with hands in his pockets.

ncing at him, E went around him to go upstairs.

When she reached the third step, Samuel questioned her, "E! Do you find it funnyining to

    grandma?"

Taking a deep breath, she realized that that showing the video to Melody was as good asining.

She shook her head and went on her way upstairs.

"Did you enjoy getting our aged Grandma concerned and upset?" "Did she do that deliberately or

    unintentionally?" Samuel thought to himself.

Shaking her head again, E remained silent.

The sudden sound of heavy footsteps behind frightened her, making her pick up her pace. This content ? N?v/elDr(a)m/a.Org.

She had no idea what she was terrified of, but when Samuel approached her, her immediate reaction

    was... to run away!

Samuel hardly set foot on the first step when she disappeared from sight.

He frowned and thought, "Is she afraid of me?"

How ridiculous that E, of all people, would be afraid of him! She''s been fearless since she decided to

be true to herself. Not buying it, Samuel was certain that she was just avoiding him.

Avoid? "The more you stay away, the closer I''ll get. I''ll soon get you because you''ll have nowhere to

    hide." he thought.

He opened the door of their bedroom, only to find it empty.

E had fled to Melody''s bedroom with Jerry in her arms as fast as possible.

When Samuel found her, she was putting Jerry on Melody''srge bed. E had asked Melody to let her

    sleep with her tonight.

"Grandma." Samuel greeted Melody respectfully. ncing at him, she said nothing.

Samuel walked to E and grabbed her wrist, saying to Melody, "Sleep early, Grandma. I want to talk to

    E."

E was pulled out of Melody''s room by force.

Melody saw the cry for help in E''s eyes when Samuel opened the door to step out.

"Samuel!" Her serious tone stopped them.

    "Grandma, " Samuel answered.

"As your grandmother, you have to listen to me. Be gentle to your wife. Look what you''ve done to her!

You''ve gone too far!" She wouldn''t have known about E''s suffering if she hadn''t grabbed her wrist.

And it didn''t seem like E would''ve told her anything.

    "I know, Grandma."

The two left the room, closing the door. Melody sighed as she watched Jerry fall asleep.

She walked slowly to the Buddha statue in her room, praying with sped hands.

"May Buddha bless the couple and may everything turn out well. May they get through this difficult time

in their marriage, and may the whole family enjoy peace and happiness."

Samuel dragged E back to their bedroom. He moved to lock the door from the inside.

Grabbing the opportunity, she ran to the closet with all her energy.

But she wasn''t quick enough. The moment she tried to close the wardrobe door, Samuel squeezed his

way inside with a furious look.

He pressed her against the closet forcefully.

When he unwrapped the silk scarf around her neck, the bruises caught his eye.

With a growing sense of foreboding, he immediately took off her sweater, leaving her dressed in only a

    thin white blouse.
