Chapter 130 He Finds Out About the Miscarriage (2)

Nichs seemed like he did not hear what Nancy said and continued to stand there.

“Move!” She swung a punch at him to force him away, to retreat, but no matter how fast and vicious her

strikes were, he silently took the hits. He did not even let out a grunt, nor did he flinch at all.

Though, the calmer he acted, the angrier she felt.

“Move, Nichs! Move! I say, move aside!” She seemed to be screaming with all her might as her

voice. nearly cracked. Even so, he stood there as still as a statue. “Why don’t you move? Don’t think I’ll

forgive you because of this. Impossible! Do you know how much I hate you? I despise you with all my

heart! If you hade… If I had been sent to the hospital earlier, everything might be different. My

baby might not have left me!

“Do you know how dejected I was? It was raining hard, and I was all alone on the ground. I had to crawl

out to the center of the road to get help. A car nearly killed me! So much blood wasing out of me. It

kept dripping and dripping. I was on my hands and knees like a dog as I begged the people passing by

to call 911 or send me to the hospital. Everyone ignored me.

“My phone was dead. Myst call was to you because I believed that no matter how much you love

Madelline, you’d understand I’m your wife. Even if you don’t love me, you’d still feel some sense of

responsibility for me. I thought you’d save me, but I was wrong. All you think about is her. I hold not

ce in your heart, although I’m your wife.

“Do you know how depressing that was? You killed my only hope. As I was lying on the ground,

drenched by the heavy rain, I thought of countless ways to die and how my miserable corpse would

look after that. I dared not even dream of surviving. I only wanted to have a more dignified death. That

    was my dying wish.”

At the end of her rant, she finally calmed down. She wiped her face and turned away, forcing herself

not to cry as she would not allow herself to shed a tear before that man. She had been crying a little too

much over thest few days, and her eyes stung so badly that she did not want to cry anymore.

However, her tears were often out of her control.

“In the end, Christian saved me. If not for him, I’d be dead by now, and you’d be staring at a cold

corpse!” After saying that, she felt like all strength had been sapped away. Numb and empty, her body

slumped over as she had no force left within her.

    She was exhausted.

In the first ce, she had not fully recovered from the ident, where the car crash and miscarriage

had severely traumatized her body. Following that, her intense emotional outburst took a lot out of her

    already weak body.

“I’m begging you. If you ever feel any guilt orpassion for me, let me have what I want! Divorce is

    good for both of us.”

Staring at her back, Nichs felt his heart was being cut open. He had never thought he would have

made such a big mess of everything. Still, he did this to himself.

He wanted to beg and plead, I’m sorry. It’s all my fault. I killed our baby. I did not do my duty as your

    husband,

as a father of the baby. It’s my fault. I am the viin who did all this. You and the baby are innocent.

However, did he have the right to plead? He did not even deserve to beg for her forgiveness, let alone

    make her stay.

    The baby.

The thought of that word made his heart feel like it was pierced by thousands of tiny needles that hurt.

as cruelly as arrows. He could not even forgive himself, so why would he demand that from her?

    my

“I’m sorry, Nancy. I know nothing I say right now will mean anything. You don’t want to hear regrets or

confessions of guilt. Still…” His voice trembled with pain. “If I had known it was true, I would never have

abandoned you two. I take back everything I ever said to you if they hurt you in the past. I looked

forward to the baby’s birth; I was eager for it. He wasn’t a trouble or a cruse. He was an innocent new

life, a symbol of happiness and joy. And then there’s you…. I don’t only feel a sense of responsibility

    but also…”

    Love.

He fell silent as he was about to say that because he simply lost the right. He was too ashamed, too

undeserving of saying he loved her. He had hurt her so badly that she was covered in wounds while

her heart had given up from how often it had been bruised. How could he say that now?

    He was unworthy of it.

She cried harder as she listened to him. Everything would have been better if he had just told her all

this earlier. Listen, my baby. Your dad says he doesn’t hate you. He’s happy that you existed and

wanted you to be born. You’d be ecstatic to hear that, right?

However, her baby could no longer hear any of Nichs’ speech. People always liked to say one could

not unscramble eggs or unring the bell. A life lost, too, could not be revived.

    Their baby would nevere back.

Her emotions surged once more. Due to how dizzy she felt, she stumbled and nearly copsed on the

ground. Thankfully, he was quick enough to catch her in his arms. “I’ll carry you to bed. Rest for a

    while,” he said.

Her body had been pushed beyond its physical limits, and she could no longer hold onto

consciousness. Hence, she did not reject his suggestion.

Back in the bedroom, he ced her on the bed and grabbed her two more pillows to prop her upper

body up. Then, he poured her a cup of warm water. After drinking it, she felt slightly better and no

    longer as upset as before.

Just like that, they ran out of words. The silence seemed to swallow them whole.

“If you’re tired, take a nap.”

“Okay.” She nodded. Perhaps she was exhausted because she fell asleep as soon as she closed her

    eyes.

Nichs did not leave the room. Instead, he headed out onto the balcony for some fresh air as he

smoked one cigarette after another. Some of the smoke dispersed in the breeze while some were

inhaled into his lungs before exhaling.

However, the puffs of smoke he blew did not carry any of his sorrow and frustration away. Never in his

life had he felt so distressed that he wished he could stab himself.

The metaphorical arrows piercing through his heart were not enough. When the embers of his cigarette

reached his fingers, the abrupt pain snapped him out of his thoughts.

As Nancy woke up, he slowly approached her with heavy feet. If possible, he wished for the walk tost

longer. Just a little longer, he would be happy to look at her from afar, even if he could never reach her

side. Still, even the longest paths had an end.

No matter how much he dreaded this, he eventually reached the bed and stopped by her side.

    “Nancy…” He started with a sorrow-filled heart.

“Have you made up your mind?” The question was delivered in a blunt and decisive tone.
