Chapter 23
Gregory meant to take a dig at Zoe. He smiled and said, “Zoe’s here too, Mason!”
Mason was fiddling with a lighter and did not respond. Gregory took that as a sign that Mason no
longer cared about her. Thus, he turned to greet her.
“Hey, Zoe!”
Zoe took a look at him and decided that Gregory had ill intentions. However, Leslie was right there.
She had to be considerate to her employer, so she went over to greet him.
Gregory poured three sses of wine for her and said politely, “Fancy bumping into you here, Zoe!
Gabri threw a fit and caused you some trouble when you got married to Mason back then. I’ll
drink these sses of wine as a gesture of apology!”

Gregory was used to having drinks with business associates. He was a heavy drinker! The three
sses of wine were no different than in water to him.
He looked straight at Zoe when he was done drinking, “You’re not going to embarrass me by not
drinking them. Are you, Zoe?”
Leslie just sat there, propping up his chin with a finger. He was supposed to stand up for her
because she worked for him, but he realized that Mason had not said a single word. So, it was not
his ce to interfere. Furthermore, he was dying to see how Mason would react.
He turned and looked at the man in question. Mason was leaning on the couch and fiddling with the
lighter, his face calm and still. He looked like he could not care less about the situation.
So, it was true. They were getting a divorce.
Leslie was about to say something when Zoe raised a ss of wine, looked at Gregory quietly, and
asked softly, “Are you going to stop pestering me for any and all reasons if I drink all of this?”
Gregory squinted his eyes. She was right. He had the mind to make her life miserable after Mason
and she had divorced. It had never urred to him that she would guess his intention.
Still, making her drink three sses of wine was torture enough!
Gregory smiled lightly. “Sure. You have my word. The score between us will be settled if you can
drink all three sses of wine. I won’t pester you after you and Mason are divorced.”
Zoe knew his character to a certain extent. She knew he would not go back on his words. She
lowered her head and looked at the ss of wine in her hand.
She was a lightweight drinker. It took all but one ss of wine for her to get drunk. However, she
had to do it. The Sanders family was already on the brink, they could not afford to make another
enemy.
Raising her head, Zoe downed the entire ss of wine in one gulp. Her face instantly flushed with a
reddish hue.
There was a touch of feminine charm in her eyes that was not there before, giving her a look of one
caught between a girl and a woman. It was very a charming sight.
Something stirred in Gregory’s heart and he was not exactly sure what it was.
As Zoe downed the second ss of wine, Leslie interjected. “That’s quite enough, Gregory!”
However, Gregory had no intention of letting her off.
In fact, Zoe could not take it anymore, but she raised the third ss of wine nheless. Her
fingers were trembling slightly. She was about to drink it when Mason said, “That’s enough!”
Everyone was shocked. He rose from his couch, grabbed Zoe’s slender arm with one hand, and
took the ss of wine away from her with the other. Training his gaze on Gregory, he said with
displeasure, “Allow me to drink thest ss of wine on my wife’s behalf!”
With that, he raised his head, drank the ss of wine, and left with Zoe in tow. Silence descended
upon the room. Everyone there was smart enough to see that Gregory had offended Mason!
Leslie patted Gregory after a brief pause. “You bet on the wrong horse! Even I wasn’t expecting
Mason to stand up for her, much less against you!
“Come to think about it. He would’ve divorced her the moment the Sanders family was met with
misfortune if he hadn’t loved her one bit. Their marriage hassted for more than a year since then!”
Gregory leaned on his chair and covered his eyes. He felt sick all of a sudden…
