Chapter Seven: The Fire Beneath the Skin (Contains a detailed sex scene—Livia)

The villa’s corridors were dimly lit, the soft glow of oil lamps casting long shadows against the marble walls. Lucius followed Livia in silence, the tension between them thick, charged with something unspoken yet undeniable.

She led him into her private chamber, where a brazier burned low, filling the space with the scent of spiced oil and lingering incense. The room was lavish—silk-draped couches, a vast bed with rich crimson sheets, a golden goblet of wine waiting on a carved wooden table. But Lucius only saw her.

Livia turned to face him, her expression unreadable. “Rome will demand everything from you,” she murmured, fingers reaching for the clasp of her tunic. “You should take what you can in return.”

Lucius stepped closer, his gaze locking onto hers. “Is that what you are? Something to take?”

A slow smile curved her lips as she loosened the fabric, letting the white linen slip from her shoulders. “I am whatever you need me to be.”

She let the tunic fall away, revealing smooth, sun-kissed skin. The flickering firelight danced over the curve of her breasts, the hollow of her stomach, the subtle shadows along her hips. She did not look away, nor did she flinch beneath his scrutiny. She was a woman who knew her power and wielded it with precision.

Lucius raised a hand, letting his fingers brush along her collarbone, his touch featherlight. Livia’s breath hitched, and he smirked. “You always present yourself as in control,” he murmured. “But what happens when I take that away?”

Before she could respond, he took her by the wrist and guided her backward until her thighs met the edge of the silk-covered couch. He eased her down, settling between her parted legs, his hands skimming her bare shoulders. His lips ghosted along her neck, teasing, never quite giving her the satisfaction of contact.

Livia shivered, tilting her head to give him more access. “You think teasing me is a victory?”

Lucius chuckled, his breath hot against her ear. “Not a victory. A lesson.”

His hands traced slow, lazy patterns down the sides of her ribs, brushing the swell of her breasts without fully touching. Her skin was warm beneath his fingers, her chest rising and falling in shallow, anticipatory breaths. When he finally dragged his thumbs over her hardened peaks, she let out a quiet sigh, her nails digging into his shoulders.

Satisfied by her response, he trailed his lips downward, placing deliberate, unhurried kisses along the curve of her throat, the dip between her collarbones, the swell of her breasts. He took his time, tasting the salt of her skin, feeling the way her body responded to every flick of his tongue, every gentle bite.

Livia arched against him, her hands threading into his hair, pulling him closer. “You’re cruel,” she whispered, though there was nothing but desire in her voice.

Lucius smirked against her skin. “Cruel? I haven’t even begun.”

His hands slid lower, over the smooth plane of her stomach, teasing at the curve of her hips. She trembled beneath his touch, her legs tightening around his waist, pulling him against her. He let her feel the weight of him, the tension that had been simmering between them since the moment they met.

Then, without warning, he pulled back, standing just enough to undo the clasp of his own tunic. The fabric fell away, and Livia’s gaze instinctively followed, only for her lips to part in genuine surprise.

Her breath caught, her fingers twitching as if she had to resist reaching for him. “Gods,” she murmured, half in awe, half in mischief. “I see why the Senate fears you.”

Lucius let out a low chuckle, amused by her reaction. “Are you impressed or intimidated?”

Livia’s lips curled into a smirk, though her eyes lingered appreciatively. “Perhaps a bit of both.”

She did reach for him then, her fingertips trailing down his abdomen before wrapping around his length, measuring, testing. “It seems I will have to adjust my expectations,” she teased, her voice sultry, but there was an undeniable flicker of anticipation in her gaze.

Lucius caught her wrist, stopping her exploration. He lowered himself over her once more, pressing her wrists gently above her head as he kissed her, slow and deep. “No more games,” he murmured.

Livia exhaled a soft laugh. “Then take what is yours, Dominus.”

The battle for control was over. The night was theirs to lose themselves in.
