ra Montague’s eyes widened at the sight of Elijah, her surprise evident on her face. Encountering him seemed unexpected to her. However, in the presence of the elders, she maintained herposure, refraining from initiating conversation and standing quietly beside her grandfather.
Even in silence, Elijah’s imposing presence was impossible to ignore.
Gideon Montague quickly spotted him and, with a smile, remarked, “Is this your aplished grandson?”
Jack Silverton, with a hint of pride, chuckled and responded, “He surpasses both me and his father when we were young.”
Jack’s attention then turned to ra. “Is she your only granddaughter?”
Gideon Montague sighed, “Indeed. Her father passed away early due to illness, and her mother remarried long ago, leaving us to rely on each other.”
Having lost his own son, Jack empathized with the pain of losing a loved one.
“We, old friends, have matters to discuss. Elijah, take ra around our estate while we converse.”
Elijah sensed Jack’s intentions immediately. Thest time he was summoned, it was to force a divorce from Freya. Now, bringing another woman–wasn’t it a subtle attempt at matchmaking? Discontent stirred within him, but respect for his grandfather’s seniority restrained his reaction. Cooperation, however, was out of the question. Now he doubted whether ra Montague would show up at thepany, and perhaps it was all arranged by Jack.
Elijah stood up and walked out of the living room, with no intention of bringing ra along.
Just as Jack was about to exin, ra spoke first, “It’s okay.”
Jack waited until Elijah was far away before saying, “He may seem cold, but his heart is warm, you just need to be patient.”
“I will be.” ra smiled.
She was attractive, with a sweet smile, the only granddaughter of Jack’s good friend. Jack was quite pleased with ra Montague, knowing her background.
“Whether they can make it depends on your tactics, Jack.” Gideon Montague said.
“This is something that needs time. I’ve exined the situation to you; you have to be patient,” Jack said. He wasn’t very confident in his heart, but he wanted to give it a try.
Freya disappointed him, so he had to find a reliable girl for his grandson elsewhere.
“Your grandson is too outstanding, and ra likes him. It takes time. Even if I don’t want to wait, I have to be patient for my granddaughter’s sake.” Gideon openly expressed his admiration for Elijah.
Jack dared to arrange this because he was quite confident. He smiled and said to ra Montague, “Feelings need cultivation. You should spend more time with Elijah. He’s gone out; you can go and apany him.”
ra lowered her gaze, blushing, “I understand.”
Today’s events were all nned, mainly to show Elijah.
Elijah, who walked out of the house, came to the backyard. He made a call to Xander. The call connected, and Xander’s voice came from the other end, “Mr Silverton.”
“I’m asking you, have you checked the background of the woman you foundst time?” Elijah asked. He thought ra Montague showing up at thepany was probably his grandfather’s masterpiece.
“I did. Graduated from a prestigious university, no work experience…”
“Her family.” Elijah coldly interrupted.
“I only heard from her that she has always lived abroad and returned not long ago. I don’t know anything else. Is there a problem?” Xander asked. “I’ve dismissed her. Is she pestering you?”
Elijah massaged his forehead, saying, “Xander, you’re an idiot!”
And that was directed at himself!
How could he believe Xander’s words and go find another woman just to make Freya Stone jealous?
Now, trouble hade.
“What did I do wrong?” Xander asked as he thought he was being scolded for no apparent reason.
Elijah wasn’t in the mood to exin to him. He just hung up the phone directly.
On the other end, Xander was utterly confused. Even if he did something wrong, if you’re going to scold someone, at least give a clear exnation. Now he was left hanging without a clue. Unfortunately, his inner thoughts were heard by no one, especially not by Elijah.
“Oh, why are you here? Come out quickly.”
Returning to the hall, Elijah heard Deck’s voiceing from his room. Inside, ra Montague stood, holding a box near his parents’ photo.
“What are you doing?” Elijah’s voice turned cold.
“I was just curious, looking at things here,” ra replied calmly.
Deck intervened, “You’d better put things down quickly. This is our young master’s stuff, very precious to him…”N?velDrama.Org: owner of this content.
“This is mine,” ra asserted confidently.
Jack Silverton had instructed her well. iming ownership of the jade pendant was crucial to gaining Elijah’s favor.
Elijah narrowed his eyes, questioning her, “What did you say? It’s yours?”
“Yes, this was left to me by my father. I just lost it. If you don’t believe it, you can ask my grandfather if I have such a thing.” ra replied, unashamed.
“You say it’s yours, but how could it be lost?” Elijah looked at her and asked.
“I don’t remember exactly when it was lost,” ra replied. “I was quite young at the time, so I can’t recall the details.”
She didn’t directly say how she lost it. After all, it was too long ago, and if she mentioned it all at once, it would seem deliberate. Elijah, being intelligent, would surely be suspicious. With her vague responses, Elijah would surely be curious. Once it was confirmed that this item belonged to her, he would believe that she was the one who saved him all those years ago.
“Maybe what you lost is just like this one?” the butler intentionally asked, giving ra a chance to speak.
“No, I remember very clearly. Look at this string; it’s identical to the one I lost. It was a gift from my father, and how could I forget that?” She finished with a pitiful look. “It’s very important to me. Can you give it back?”
Elijah fell silent for a moment, not immediately relenting. He walked over, took the box from ra Montague’s hand, opened it, and looked at the contents. Recalling the clear gaze from that time, a warmth passed through his eyes. Even after so many years, he still remembered waking up from unconsciousness, seeing that face, and that gaze.
“If it really belongs to you, I’ll return it to its rightful owner.” Elijah closed the box and put it back in its ce.
Originally, he was nning to leave, but now it seemed he had to stay. He needed to find out if, during the time he was rescued, ra Montague had visited the Silverton family.
ra pursed her lips and said, “Alright.”
“Dinner is ready. Let’s go to the dining room.” Deck said with a smile.
Elijah told Deck, “Lock my room in the future.”
Deck agreed, then looked at ra.
The two exchanged nces. Although Elijah was angry, their purpose had been achieved.
Inside the dining room, Jack and Gideon were already there. Seeing his granddaughter, Gideon asked, “After walking around, do you have any impressions of this ce?”
ra walked towards her grandfather and replied, “Yes, I remember. When I was a child, Grandpa, you brought me here for a funeral, and I even jumped into the water to save someone.”
Elijah sat down without showing any emotion. When he heard ra Montague mention saving someone by jumping into the water, he lifted his eyes and looked at her.
