Chapter 838 Lawrences Substitute (Part Two)

Chapter 838 Lawrence''s Substitute (Part Two)

"We both understand the power of the Chu family. But we''ve never messed with them. Besides, you got

into this position on your own. I don''t think Jackson will give us a hard time, will he?" Ann Tang asked

with a concerned look. She was trying toprehend what her husband was telling her. She had never

seen her husband this conscious and concerned about the people in the government before.

"He won''t," Gabe assured his wife, though he himself was in doubt. He had never associated with

Jackson before. When he had been in some parties, he got no chance to talk with Jackson but watched

him discreetly. So he had no idea what Jackson was like. He tried to get linked to them but they were

mostly off the government circle grid since John Ye left. Gabe always felt he was too ordinary a person

when he was in the presence of Jackson Chu.

"Then we got nothing to worry about," Ann Tang concluded. She then added, "Our family has some

influence in the city, at least we have a say in the government. Jackson will know it. Besides, our

daughter is well-educated. She is beautiful and slender. She is better than other rich girls out there. I''m

sure Jackson and Cherry will like her and ept her as their daughter-inw." Ann was confident of

what her daughter could bring to the Chu''s table. This was what they had been preparing for for their

daughter- to be married off to a rich family.

"I''m still not sure about this," Gabe responded. He had always been sure about everything except this

one. He looked at his wife and asked, "What do you think of Jackson''s children? Do you think they are

the same with the rest from the upper ss society?"

Like Jackson, his children were not something that the media could feast on. As a result, not everyone

knew anything about them. Aside from being a powerful family, they were also discreet and wless. All

that Ann knew about the Chu children were based on what was known in the government circle. After

thinking for a moment and collecting her thoughts, Ann shook her head. "They are different. Lawrence

is excellent and shrewd. He gives off a different aura from other rich young men. He has never indulges

himself in entertainments or gotten any bad publicity. Many women try to approach him, but none of

them spent the night with him," she remarked.

She paused for a moment. Gabe could see that his wife was trying hard to give him all she knew about

the family. Ann rested her back on the sofa and continued, "I heard that Jackson''s daughter keeps a

low profile and I never met her before. Looks like she''s married to Fred Xiao''s son. But they didn''t even

hold a morous wedding. I don''t know what kind of girl she is. Who wouldn''t want a big shot

    wedding?"

After hearing all these information from his wife, he paused for a moment to process them in his head.

He picked up his cup of tea, rested his back on the lounge, and drink some tea. He rested the cup on

his left hand, while his right was holding the ear. "I think Mr. Jackson and his wife must have educated

their children in a different way. Perhaps they may not pay much attention to the family background or

    education," he said apprehensively.

"You have a point," Ann followed. "But anyway, Mary stands out among the rich girls of her age, doesn''t

she? Doesn''t matter who they are. I''m confident of our Mary, so don''t worry."

"Perhaps you''re right," Gabe nodded at her. "Well, let''s wait and see. She looked so happy and she''s

looking forward to meeting Lawrence Chu, so I had no intention in ruining her good mood."

"We''d better keep it to ourselves. We should let her lead a carefree life," Ann proposed. "Besides, she''s

now a growndy. I''m sure she can handle this things on her own."

Gabe nodded in agreement. And they both sat in silence. Though deep inside, Gabe still had some

concerns about her daughter''s choice of husband. But he knew he better let his daughter figure it out

herself. He would just wait in the background and see what happened.

In a beautiful mid-summer afternoon, the city was filled with people enjoying their vacation. Tourists

were everywhere and the streets were busy with street acts and booths. In this busy city, there was a

ce where one could find peace. This ce was a bar known to the upper ss for its ssic old

wines and ambiance. Lawrence could be seen enjoying this peace and quiet with a ss of whiskey in

his hand. The ambiance mixed with a perfect jazz music was the best setting for Lawrence to clear off

    his mind of things.

Mike walked into the bar. Since there were not so many people in this bar, he was able to locate

Lawrence at the bar counter in one nce. He tiptoed to his best friend and tried to startle him.

"There you are! What''s up, Lawrence? So you''re seriously nning to get drunk alone?" Mike asked,

patting his best friend''s back. He signaled the bartender to give him a ss of whiskey as he sat down

beside Lawrence. Mike was a frequent visitor at the bar so the bartender knew his habits. He prepared

the drink that Mike wanted and gave it to him without a word. Mike nodded in response and the

    bartender went away.

"You got me wrong. I just wanted to have a drink," Lawrence replied casually. Though he actually had

something in mind, he was just here to clear his head off. He had no intention of drowning his sorrows

and he had never resorted to it to forget the unpleasant things.

"Well, then you''re not alone now," Mike proposed before taking a sip of his wine. They both sat there in

silence, enjoying the ambiance of a chill and rxing jazz music.

"Hey, has your Dad ever asked you to get married?" Lawrence broke the silence and asked Mike while

he was absently minded ying with his ss of whiskey.

Mike was surprised when Lawrence brought up the subject of marriage. He knew Lawrence since they

were kids and for Mike, Lawrence was not the type to talk about marriage with his family. Nor his Dad

    would force him to marry.

"Of course, he has. Since I returned from abroad, he has keptining that some of his friends

already have their grandchildren. He med me for staying abroad for many years withouting

back. The first mission he gave me was to get settled," Mike replied, as he aired his trouble. He was

not sure if that was helpful, but he just shared his thoughts on things.

"How did you make it through?" Lawrence asked curiously, still not looking at Mike.

"I yed with my phone and pretended that I hadn''t heard him talking. Later, my Dad was running out

of patience. He directly ordered me to get married. I told him that I would consider his words but I

needed some time to find a girl," Mike replied archly.
