117. Panic In Hypercity

An open street. One not too far from the Hypercity park.

There was nothing particularly odd about this street.

On it, the people of the city would go about as ordinarily as one would imagine. The sounds of children playing could be heard in the distance, some gentlemen talking about their day, some women laughing while taking tea from a nearby coffee shop.

All that would be, in many ways, a normal day on that street.

Of course, it had not been too long since the spider bots attacked Hypercity, but even still, that street would be the same even considering that situation.

After all, life would go on.

But at this very moment, there was, on this usually relaxing and peaceful street, a massive panic.

On scene was an ambulance carrying a young woman whose face had been covered by a towel into the vehicle. Another woman, seemingly a friend of hers, was still crying loudly right next to her.

A police vehicle was also on scene, and several men, women, and children looked on, as their parent of said children shielded their eyes from the scene.

Policeman: What happened to her ma''am?

    Name: Geoffery Cox

    Age: 37

Description: Somewhat tubby, but not too much

    Occupation: Police Officer

    Fact: Doesn''t like jelly donuts

Woman: He just... and then.... and... and....

Name: Rachel MarshUnauthorized use: this story is on Amazon without permission from the author. Report any sightings.

    Age: 20

Description: What you''d expect from a hot 20 year old.

    Occupation: College student

Fact: Beat boxes as a hobby. Is quite good at it.

Rachel was extremely shaken by her, as was the audience. Why wouldn''t she be? Her best friend and partner in crime had just been ruthlessly attacked, her face horribly mauled, and, as she was being carried away, she seemed to be in incredible pain.

Tears rolled down her eyes as Cox, with a slight annoyance, waited patiently for her to calm down.

Geoffery: (thinking: Oh boy, here we go....)

The rest of the audience, having come from every one who''d heard the commotion and / or heard Rachel and her friends initial scream, waited as well in anticipation.

There was one fact that held true here as well as in many real-life situations. That truth being, that most people only really pay attention to themselves.

As a result, hardly any of them had heard of what had happened.

Even those nearby had only seen a glimpse of it.

But the little glimpse they''d seen was too little to make sense of what had happened.

That is how things usually go in life.

But in this case, it also happened that some people did catch a glimpse of what had happened.

However, if seeing was believing, those who had seen enough to make sense of what had happened, didn''t want to believe it. They couldn''t.

    After all, how could they?

    It was all too absurd.

So absurd, that even those who had seen enough to understand the situation, were still there, not just because they were worried about the girl, but also, because they wanted her to affirm what they had just seen.

All of their minds singing, "Was it just me... or..... did I see.......?"

Something along those lines ran through their minds, for no normal person would see that and immediately imagine that all was well with the world.

Geoffery: Alright, alright. Standard procedure, everyone. Back off.

He told the people to give Rachel some space before...

Geoffery: (to his phone) This is Geoffery Cox speaking. I''ll be needing some assistance over.

Woman''s voice: I got ya covered, over.

    Name: Sydney Celia Davis

    Age: 32

    Occupation: Police Calls Operator

Description: Spunky, but she is new there so...

Fact: She always wanted to be a cop, even as a little girl

Sydney: I''ll send our finest over, over.

    She then started another call.

So, one would ask, what did happen?

    The public would never no.

They all lazily and murmuringly turned around and left the scene.

Rachel hesitantly turned to the ambulance as it left. She wanted to go with her friend, as most people would.

Geoffery: No need to worry, miss. She''ll be fine. Now, about the....

    Rachel started sobbing again.

Geoffery: (sighs) (thinking: Here we go again. I do not get paid enough for this.)
