Chapter 1: Awakening

Roaming the deep ocean, the colossal beast once dubbed Godzilla by humanity''s ancient ancestors, moved towards the abyss. Just as it had trod beneath the melting ancient ice two hundred years prior, today Godzilla’s mood was foul.

Yesterday, it had just awoken from a coma. It then discovered a strange object within its mind, along with some very peculiar information implanted within it.

Awakening from its slumber, besides the inky blackness of the ocean floor, it also saw a strange object within its vision.

    “Host Name: Godzilla”

    “Height: 218 meters”

    “Weight: 640,000 tons”

    【Breath: High-Temperature Plasma…】

    ...

It was a small panel in the upper left corner of its vision, meticulously listing its information using ancient symbols. It recognized the script; it was the script used by the small beings who had performed rituals to it before its tenth hibernation, back when that land, located on a sea of darker, saltier water, had not yet sunk.

Over hundreds of rituals, it had gradually come to understand them, and thus could decipher the information.

Understanding the information was one thing, but this anomaly was something else entirely.

Those small beings had perished when the land sank during its hibernation; it hadn''t seen their symbols since its ninth hibernation. So why, now, did they reappear in its vision?

And why did they want it to hunt down their brethren?

It looked below the panel to the main quest and several side quests.

“Main Quest: Get humanity out of this planet!”

“Those damned humans destroyed the planetary ecosystem! As the planet''s representative, avenge all the dead! Godzilla, unleash your Atomic Breath on humanity! Get them out of this planet.”

    “Current Completion: 0%”

【Reward: Advanced Materials, Advanced Energy Source, Planetary Ecosystem Regeneration.】

“Side Quest: First Step to Leaving the Planet.”

“Awakening of the King of Monsters, accompanied by absolute fury! Destroy any human metropolis.”

    【Reward: One-time body enhancement evolution.】

“Side Quest: Benevolent King of Monsters.”

    ...

A truly bizarre mission. Why would they want it to annihilate their own kind?

It pondered this, swaying its massive body before rising from the volcanic rock where it had slumbered for two hundred years.

Godzilla did not heed the mission''s instructions; it was a pacifist, unlike its other brethren who showed little regard for the lives of others.

As the oldest Titan, it deeply valued those small creatures.

Since its own hazy infancy hundreds of millions of years ago, it had witnessed countless extinctions and destructions, a great extinction event and five smaller ones. It deeply respected the struggle for survival displayed by these creatures, whose lifespans were countless times shorter than its own.

Unlike its near-eternal kind, these beings'' lifespan was a mere ten-thousandth of theirs, yet the civilizations and structures they created were impossible for even the near-eternal beings to build.

Though only ten thousand years, the wonder those ten thousand years brought surpassed the previous one hundred million years combined. When it awoke and learned that the continent had sunk beneath the sea, it mourned for a long time. The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

However, later discovering their descendants on other continents cheered it up for a while.

Only, these descendants did not seem to have inherited their ancestors'' reverence for nature, even attacking them.

Upon noticing this, the Godzillas gradually vanished from the youngsters'' sight, patiently awaiting their demise.

Since you dislike us, then we are willing to cede this world to you for a time. After all, we are eternal, and you are fleeting. Yielding a bit is no problem.

Swishing its tail, Godzilla ascended from the several thousand meter deep ocean trench. The ocean was unexpectedly quiet this time.

The whale songs that once filled the ocean were gone. It seemed they hadn''t survived these two hundred years.

This displeased it; it quite liked those singers.

Before its hibernation, the number of those singers had already become dangerously low. Their disappearance after this sleep was expected.

Still, it felt a pang of melancholy.

Swimming towards shallower waters, Godzilla prepared for a long-overdue sunbath. However, as it ascended, it noticed something amiss.

During its ascent, it saw no other living creatures besides itself.

Even the toughest small fish and shrimp had vanished. The seawater was foul-smelling, and filled with a strange substance.

This substance was only released by bioluminescent stones found deep underground, a substance capable of killing ordinary life.

Once extremely rare, only some Titans who relied on these stones could find places where this substance was abundant.

Now, it was everywhere in the ocean.

Not a single living creature, not a single life form remained. The once-vibrant coral reefs had vanished, the fish schools had vanished, the shrimp and krill were gone. The ocean was unimaginably desolate, far emptier than during the extinction events it had witnessed.

Even the impact of that celestial body was more vibrant than this!

Godzilla sensed something was wrong. It emitted a low, rumbling sound, the vocalization Titans used to communicate.

It wanted to learn what had happened from the Titans that had also awoken from their slumber, but something even more unsettling occurred—its call received no response.

    “Oooo…”

It amplified its sound, using its full power to broadcast its shortwave signal, yet no Titan responded. Even when it amplified the sound to a level that should have jolted sleeping Titans awake, no Titan answered.

Unease turned to anxiety. It switched to a different frequency, a natural frequency—the frequency of the planet''s oldest being, Nature itself.

This time, it received a response.

Not from outside, but from within its own body.

After its ocular display received this signal, it transmitted a massive amount of data to its brain, including everything that happened during its two-hundred-year slumber.

It received images of humans capturing each Titan, dissecting them to study their mobile nuclear reactors.

    Images of Titans battling humanity.

    Images of humanity''s victory.

Images of humanity descending into civil war after their victory due to various conflicts.

Images of decades of continuous nuclear war, resulting in complete ecological collapse, with only the humans sheltering underground surviving.

Images of humanity, thankfully, eventually tiring of war and returning to the surface.

    ...

Nature transmitted all of humanity''s history and knowledge to Godzilla, revealing everything that happened during its slumber.

Those insignificant little beings, during its sleep, had killed all its brethren and then begun a civil war, a nuclear war.

Unlike the little ones'' initial predictions of a war lasting only a few days, this one raged for decades.

Although both sides initially launched hundreds of thousands of nuclear weapons, these weapons failed to completely destroy each other''s industrial systems, because everyone anticipated this, secretly relocating parts of their infrastructure underground.

The initial attacks didn''t cripple either side, so the fighting continued.

They continued to build nuclear weapons, building and launching them until the enemy was utterly destroyed.

Because industrial capacity was high thanks to miniaturized fusion reactors and self-regulating industrial robots, even after a wave of nuclear strikes, if 10% of a city remained, the industrial system wasn''t crippled, and the war could continue.

Self-regulating robots managed the industries; as long as a single human remained, the war could continue.

At this point, the number of humans left was no longer the war''s focus.

Hundreds or thousands of nuclear weapons were produced daily, and hundreds or thousands exploded daily. Meanwhile, nuclear reactors were breached by exploding nuclear weapons, releasing unimaginable radiation and creating unprecedented nuclear wastelands.

Furthermore, due to the powerful radiation hindering robot function, everyone tacitly began creating dirty bombs—the dirtier, the better.

Under these conditions, humanity, relying on technology, managed to survive, but other life forms could not withstand this level of continuous nuclear war.

The war ultimately resulted in the extinction of over 99% of terrestrial life and over 99% of marine life; even insects disappeared.

Even the Second Great Extinction did not cause the collapse of natural consciousness to this extent. It, too, was broken by this catastrophe.

Natural consciousness passed all its perceived information and desires to the last remaining Titan, Godzilla.

Natural consciousness’s final wish was simple: it wanted Godzilla to exterminate the remaining humans.

It did not fear its own death.

It simply feared the end of all life on the planet, fearing that a future technologically advanced human war would annihilate even the microorganisms.

Therefore, it implored Godzilla to drive the remaining humans out of existence, so that life on the planet could have a future, allowing a new ecosystem to evolve in millions of years.

Exterminate them utterly, drive them out!
