    “Have you decided what you’ll do?”


    “About the seat?”


    Emeryn nodded. “Being part of the council means you could do a lot of good. Everyone recognizes your efforts in the war. The vote count can’t be denied, even if you weren’t technically allowed as a candidate.”


    “I’ve decided against it.”


    “Oh?”


    “With the invaders gone and most of the monsters dealt with, Eldsprak has all the time in the world to rebuild. They don’t need me, at least not right now.”


    Emeryn broke into a beautiful smile. “The Kinship, then?”


    He put his arms around her and leaned in close, pressing his face into her hair. She smelled of flowers. “If I have any say on the matter, we’ll never be parted again.”
