Chapter 244 Silent Frustration
Victor smiled faintly. "Yeah, I can''t sleep. There are some things weighing on my mind that keep me up all night. Every time I close my eyes, theye back to haunt me. It''s been like this for years. I''ve seen countless doctors, but none of them could fix it. Just prescribe me some sleeping pills, please." Be frowned. "How about you see Dr. rke from our department? He knows a lot, and he''s also good with psychology. Relying on sleeping pills isn''t. long-term solution. If you be dependent on them, it''ll only get harder to fall asleep naturally." Victor sighed. "Forget it. I''ve seen more famous doctors than I can count. I''ll be fine with the sleeping pills."
Since he insisted, Be didn''t push further and prescribed him a controlled amount of sleeping pills. After receiving the prescription, Victor didn''t leave right away. Instead, he stared at Be oddly, which made her feel ufortable. "Did you need something else, Mr. Morse?"
Victor stood up slowly as he shook his head. Then, he said nonchntly, "No, that''s all. See you around Dr. Jones."
As she watched him leave, Be couldn''t shake the feeling that something was off. From the start, Victor knew her family name, and then he gave her such a strange look. He also said "see you around" instead of "goodbye", as if they would meet again. What puzzled Be the most was that Victor imed he had seen countless famous doctors. In that case, why did hee to her? Be wasn''t anyone special.
During her lunch break, Dominic called, and they chatted about random things. It was mostly the usual sweet and flirty banter between couples. Of course, Dominic made his usually possessive demands. He didn''t like her interacting with her male colleagues and even forbade her from doing so. Suddenly, Be thought of Victor and asked, "Do you know anyone named Victor Morse?"
She figured if Victor was someone important, Dominic would know him.
Dorninic sounded confused as he asked, "How do you know him?"
Be answered honestly, "He came to me for a consultation, but something feels off. Do you know him?"
Dominic replied seriously, "His background is prettyplicated. I haven''t figured him out yet. Lately, I''ve been working on a project with him. A man like him wouldn''t go to a small-time doctor like you for no reason. There''s probably more to it. "Anyway, I''ve got some things to handle on my end. I''ll talk to youter."
Before Be could respond, the line went dead,N?velDrama.Org owns ? this.
Be was speechless. Dominic never let her end the call, but he was always the first to hang up!
Still, why would Victore to her? And why now, when he was in the middle of working with Dominic? What was his real aim?
After work, Dominic called again just as Be was about to step into the elevator,
"I''m outside the hospital"
Dominic had told her that he wouldn''t be able to pick her up these days. She was about to ask why he was here, but he hung up before she could.
She felt irritated by his habit, but she didn''t dare toin about it. When she got downstairs and into his car, she asked somewhat sulkily, "Didn''t you say you couldn''t pick me up? I could''ve driven myself home. There was no need to trouble you." Dominic ced his hand on her neck and pulled her closer, then kissed her lightly on the lips. "If you''re upset, just tell me why. Why act all passive-aggressive? I''m here, right? I have to workte tonight, but I wanted to join you for dinner first." Dominic''s warmth lingered on her lips, and Be''s heart skipped a beat. "I''m not upset.."
