“Ouch! Ouch! What’s going on?” Chen Lian cried out as she copsed to the ground.
Xia Wan reached out to help, while discreetly doing something to Chen Lian’s back.
Xia Jiang hurried over, concerned. “What happened? Why did she suddenly…”
Chen Lian gasped and then fainted.
“What’s going on?” Xia Jiang panicked, unsure of what to do.
“It might be a fit of rage. Quick, let’s get her inside!” Yan Han, remaining calm, gestured to Xia Jiang and Xia Chen to carry Chen Lian inside.
At this point, Xia Jiang, too preupied to think about Xia Ye, joined Xia Chen in carrying the unconscious Chen Lian into the house.
Once inside, theyid her on the sofa, and Xia Hai hurriedly called the county hospital.
Yan Han wanted to check on Chen Lian, but Xia Wan held her back.
Yan Han turned to Xia Wan, who shook her head nonchntly.
Yan Han was slightly shocked but tried to stayposed.
Seeing Xia Jiang too flustered to notice them, she pulled Xia Wan aside. “What did you do?”
Xia Wan patted Yan Han’s arm, reassuringly saying, “I just wanted her to quiet down for a bit, just applied a little pressure to her sleep acupoint.”
“They were making such a scene at the door, damaging my reputation. I’m more worried about the trouble it might cause for our family,” Xia Wan exined softly.
Yan Han was concerned about something else. “Their words earlier…”
“Don’t worry, Mom!” Xia Wan consoled, “They have no proof that I harmed Xia Ye. These rumors will fade away over time.”
“Besides, they themselves said Xia Ye was ruined by a man. Isn’t that more gossip-worthy than me harming Xia Ye?”
Yan Han, although not entirely agreeing with Xia Wan, had to let things take their course.
“What should we do with her now?” Yan Han looked at the unconscious Chen Lian on the sofa.
“I just applied a bit more pressure on her sleep acupoint,” Xia Wan said with a hint of mischief. “Auntie never stops once she starts. Isn’t it better for her to be quiet?”
Yan Han sighed helplessly, looking at Xia Hai, who had hurried back after making the call.
Xia Hai, sensing Yan Han’s gaze, approached them. “What happened?”
Yan Han, reluctant to me Xia Wan, asked Xia Hai, “When will the doctor arrive?”
Xia Hai sighed, “It’s not too far, but it’ll take at least half an hour for the ambnce to arrive.”
“The doctor asked us to monitor her condition and take her to the hospital immediately if anything seems wrong.”
“Where do we find a car at this time?” Yan Han worried.
“Why not borrow a tricycle from Brother Chen next door?” Xia Hai suggested, ncing at Xia Wan.
He nced at Xia Jiang, then quietly asked Xia Wan, “Wanwan, can’t you do something about your aunt’s condition?”
Before Xia Wan could reply, Yan Han interjected firmly, “No!”
“They came uninvited today to insult Wanwan, and now they expect her to treat her?” Yan Han’s tone was resolute, leaving no room for negotiation.
“I don’t think Auntie’s life is in danger. Let’s just wait for the hospital staff to take her for treatment.”
Xia Hai knew today’s incident was caused by his brother and sister-inw’s unreasonable behavior and trusted Wanwan’s character.
But with the person lying on their sofa, they needed to think of a solution.
Xia Hai looked again at Xia Wan, who watched calmly.
Xia Hai fell silent.
He owed his family too much already. Now that they hade to insult his daughter, he couldn’t side with them without disappointing his wife and child.
Xia Hai sighed and withdrew.
Xia Chen and Xia Feng stood by, silently watching Xia Jiang’s panic, without any intention to intervene.
After about an hour, the hospital’s ambnce finally arrived at the Xia residence.
The paramedics checked Chen Lian, skillfully ced her on a stretcher, and loaded her into the ambnce.
Xia Jiang, too preupied to think of anything else, followed the ambnce as it left..
