    Xie Xuning wished he could continue to hold on to Ye Ling’s smooth and soft body and not go out. He was very reluctant to leave.

    Ye Ling nodded. After Xie Xuning left the house, Ye Ling was deep in thought and could not get back to sleep.


    Looking at the time, she got out of bed and went to get dressed. She switched on herptop and logged onto it with her ID.


    “Hello, Mo’er, do you miss Mommy?”


    Mo’er waved his hand excitedly. “Yes, Mommy, I miss you! When are youing back?”


    Ye Ling felt guilty just by looking at Mo’er’s delighted face. He must be waiting eagerly for her to go back.


    “Mo’er, do you want toe to the capital to study?”


    Mo’er looked surprised and looked at Shi Han in anticipation. “Daddy, can I?”


    Shi Han asked, “Do you want to?”


    Mo’er nodded. “Yes.”


    “We’ll go next fall then.” Mo’er was ecstatic at the thought of seeing Ye Ling next year. He ran up to Shi Han and kissed him. “Daddy, you’re the best!”


    Shi Han took into consideration that Ye Ling was pregnant in middle age.


    Her condition was not the best for having Mo’er with her right now. Besides, she had gone through many surgeries.


    How would anyone know if those operations would affect the fetus?


    The most important thing now was to make sure Ye Ling was healthy and safe.


    “Ling, how are you feeling? What’s the situation there?”


    Ye Ling held up two of her fingers, symbolizing ‘Victory’. “I’m all right.”


    “It must bete over there. Where did Xie Xuning go? How can he leave you alone at home?”


    Shi Han always treated Ye Ling like a sister.


    His sister was pregnant with a child, but her husband wasn’t with her tonight.


    What kind of husband was he?


    Shi Han thought disdainfully.


    “He just left. He has something to attend to.” Ye Ling touched her belly gently. “Shi Han, don’t worry. He treats me very well.”


    “If he dares to mistreat you, I will take you away immediately.” Shi Han said threateningly. He then lowered his voice and said affectionately, “Ling, always remember that you are never alone. You always have us. Remember that all three of us will always be protecting you.”


    “Yes.”


    Tears welled up in Ye Ling’s eyes.


    She was much more fortunate than many other people.


    Here was a man who was always willing to brave all kinds of danger to bring her to safety and never ask for anything in return.


    He had always been her safety.


    She had her current life because of them.


    Shi Han sighed. “Go and get some sleep. It’ste.”


    “All right. Good night.”


    “Mommy, good night. I miss you. You must take care of yourself.”


    After ending the video call, Ye Ling, ced theptop by her bed and looked out the window.


    She was wondering why did Xie Xuning leave in a hurry. He looked rather worried and flustered.


    At the mortuary, Qie Wang was sitting at one corner, his head hung low. The image of the ident kept shing in his mind.


    He could’ve saved her if he had tried harder, but he didn’t.


    He helplessly watched Li Zhiwei burn to death.


    “Qie Wang.”


    Xie Xuning had arrived and called out to Qie Wang. He raised his head, tears brimming in his eyes.


    “Xuning, Zhiwei is dead.”


    Xie Xuning walked toward the bed and lifted the white cloth, revealing a charred body.
