Gu Qingcheng pouted, her brows furrowing as she gazed at Huo Siqian’s frosty countenance.
“He really said that?”
The cupy shattered, rendering her movement awkward. Yet, even if he detested her, surely he wouldn’t deny her a simple ss of water.
“Huo Sicheng, fetch me some water.”
Huo Sicheng’s visage remained impassive. “Why should I be the one to get you water?”
A mixture of anger and frustration simmered within Gu Qingcheng as she locked her gaze on Huo Sicheng.
“I’m not well.”
“What concern is that of mine? My health is not faltering. Also, spare me your gaze.” His face remained devoid of any emotion. “I won’t be pouring water for you. If you’re thirsty, you can get it yourself.’
“Must you treat me like this?” Gu Qingcheng’s voice wavered. “All I asked for was a ss of water. I’m not trying to harm you. Fetch me water, and not only will I express gratitude, but I’ll even extend it to your ancestors.”
“Gu Qingcheng,” Huo Sicheng’s voice rose. “You’re ill, yet you stillsh out at
“Did I insult you?” Gu Qingcheng’s tone trembled with hurt. “I’m genuinely thanking you. I’ve thanked eight generations of your forebears. I’m sincerely grateful, not abusive.”
“Haha.” Huo Sicheng’s demeanor remained icy. “An ungrateful woman indeed. You disguised your insults as gratitude. You even maligned my ancestors. Yet, you im innocence?”
Gu Qingcheng bit her lip. “Thank you. You’re a remarkable man, tolerating an ungrateful woman like me. Please, bring me a ss of water. I’m truly parched.”
She was ungrateful?
Since their marriage, she had never faltered in her devotion.
How was she ungrateful?
And hadn’t he been the one to ensure she didn’t be drenched, fall ill, or be inebriated?
Her heart brimmed solely with him.
Meanwhile, he luxuriated within a sea-facing vacation room, fortably detached.
She had fretted for him without cause.
“No.” Huo Sicheng’s refusal was unyielding. “I’m incapacitated. I’m not in a wheelchair, but I still can’t move.”
Only then did Gu Qingcheng register that Huo Sicheng wasn’t seated in a wheelchair. Surprised, she inquired, “Where’s your wheelchair?”
Huo Sicheng retorted coldly, “What’s it to you?”
Gu Qingcheng was rendered speechless.
Had Huo Sicheng lost his temper?
Each word bore a sting, as though she owed him a fortune.
But no, given his wealth, she should owe him billions, not mere millions. “If it’s not falling, then it hasn’t. I won’t be imbibing any more.”
Reclining back onto the bed, her earlier words had sapped her energy, leaving her body sore. Observing Huo Sicheng’s handsome but frigid visage, she turned away.
Out of sight, out of mind.
Facing him would only worsen her mood.
Huo Sicheng was vexed by Gu Qingcheng’s disposition.
“Haha.” A cold snort apanied his sour words. “You’re unwell and thirsty, yet you have Qi Shaoze on call, ready to fly to Nice just to get you water. But by the time he arrives, you’ll have already died of thirst. Collecting your body would be enough.”
With that, he departed the room.
Upon hearing his words, Gu Qingcheng felt as though her lungs would explode.
Facing Huo Sicheng, she hadn’t noticed his departure.
By the time she turned to find him, he had vanished.
She ground her teeth, cursing, “You heartless rascal! I’ll perish in your home!
I’ll die right before you! I’ll vex you!”
Unbeknownst to her, Huo Sicheng, having just left, lingered near the door. Through the gap, he overheard Gu Qingcheng’s invectives.
Closing the door, he massaged his temples, feeling a mix of tenderness and irritation.
Yi Shui approached with a tray carrying Gu Qingcheng’s medication and a ss of water. He extended it to Huo Sicheng.
“Young Master Huo, it’s time for Madam’s medication.”
Huo Sicheng’s expression remained frosty. “Do I seem like Madam’s servant to you?”
Yi Shui was momentarily speechless.
Though Young Master Huo may not have appeared as Madam’s servant, his concern for her was evident.
He presumed that Young Master Huo would personally assist Gu Qingcheng with her medication.
Seemingly mistaken, he proceeded, “Shall I give it to Madam?”
Yi Shui paused obediently.
Huo Sicheng took a sip of water. “The water is slightly warm. She dislikes warm water. Rece it with room temperature water.” He also fetched some candied fruit, as the medicine’s bitterness necessitated a pte cleanse.
Yi Shui remained wordless.
Though Young Master Huo’s manner was tough, his heart was soft. He appeared indifferent to his wife, Gu Qingcheng, yet his actions bespoke concern.
“Very well, Young Master Huo.”
“Wait.” Huo Sicheng called Yi Shui back. “Find someone to look after Madam.
Ensure it’s a woman.”
“Understood.”
Having taken just a couple of steps, Huo Sicheng returned to the door. Through the crack, he witnessed Yi Shui offering the ss to Gu Qingcheng, and her being cared for.
His heart twinged.
He should have been the one attending to her needs.
He…
Never mind.
She deserved her predicament.
Besides, Qi Shaoze would tend to her. His role was negligible.
He left again, heading to the kitchen. “Take this to Madam.”
Observing the ss of green orange juice, Yi Shui was reminded of Young Master Huo’s outward harshness juxtaposed with his meticulous deeds.
“Of course, Young Master Huo.”
Upon presenting the green orange juice to Gu Qingcheng, he found her staring at the ceiling.
“Madam, your taste may be dulled due to your ailment. Consuming green orange juice might help restore your pte.”
Gu Qingcheng regarded the figure before her. “You made this for me?”
Yi Shui nearly disclosed that it was Young Master Huo’s concoction, yet refrained without his consent.
“Yes, Madam.”
“Thank you.” Gratitudeced Gu Qingcheng’s tone. “Your thoughtfulness ismendable.”
Taking the ss, she sipped the concoction. Its sweet and tangy vor was afort.
“It’s delightful. When I’m distressed, green and orange vors are my sce.”
Her words hung momentarily.
“How did you discern my preference?”
Yi Shui respondedposedly, “Only green oranges were avable in the fridge. Anticipating your diminished sense of taste due to illness, I fashioned the juice.”
Gu Qingcheng remained skeptical.
Huo Sicheng knew her tastes. She suspected he had dispatched Yi Shui to create the juice.
However, Huo Sicheng had declined her request for water; why would he ask Yi Shui to prepare juice?
“Yi Shui, how long have you served Huo Sicheng?”
At their initial encounter, Yi Shui had volunteered his name. From that, she’d learned he was Huo Sicheng’s subordinate. His exact role, however, remained unclear.
Yi Shui replied, “Madam, I won’t disturb your rest. Someone will be here to attend to you. For any needs, please inform your caretaker.”
Watching Yi Shui depart without addressing her query, Gu Qingcheng didn’t press further.
She detained Yi Shui. “Wait.”
When Yi Shui halted, she inquired, “You’ve been with Huo Sicheng a while, surely.. Do you know why he’s in Nice? Tell me, what’s troubling him? Has someone upset him?”
