    Chapter 0470

Candice''s words seemed light, but they echoed loudly in Alex''s mind.

Suddenly, Alex''s eyes narrowed. He looked bewildered for a moment, and then a mix ofplex

    feelings flooded his expression.

Standing there, facing Candice''s dull and empty gaze, he felt like icy des were piercing deep into

    his bones.

The sensation was chilling and painful. It felt like his hands were squeezing his heart tighter with

every breath until it became unbearable, and he struggled to remain steady.

His vision blurred, leaving only Candice''s pale face and empty eyes in focus.

Her words echoed in his mind. She had said their child was gone.

    His child.

The usually indifferent expression on Alex''s face crumbled. He looked at Candice; inside his eyes,

there was confusion and panic, the realization dawning that he was on the brink of losing something

    precious.

Yana''s voice shattered the silence, dripping with sarcasm.

"What''s with that expression? Don''t you realize how ridiculous you are? Your family stooped to

despicable acts like tampering with medical reports and pressuring Candice to abort just to get rid of

    the child in her belly."

"Alex, why pretend otherwise? It''s sickening. Meeting you was the worst thing that ever happened

    to Candice."

Yana''s voice echoed loudly as she stood protectively in front of Candice''s hospital bed.

Alex''s gaze passed over her andnded on Candice, lying behind.

Her lips were colorless, and her long eyshes concealed the light in her eyes.

Candice sat there quietly, yet it felt like she was a world away from Alex.

She remained quiet andposed. Only the corners of her eyes held a hint of moisture, each tear

feeling like a dagger piercing Alex''s heart.

When Sawyer arrived an hour after Alex''s call, he found Alex standing beneath arge, ancient tree

outside the hospital. There was something different about him.

The dry branches above Alex rustled slightly, adorned with fresh green leaves, but they couldn''t

    dispel the loneliness surrounding him.

Candice stayed in the hospital for three days.

Yana visited her daily, bringing plenty of food and chatting about light topics, carefully avoiding any

mention of Alex and the Elysians.

Hanley also came by, quieterpared to Yana. Sometimes he talked about the studio, and other

    times about random topics.

Colleagues from the studio and Hannah also visited, but Candice didn''t engage much.

She became lost in daydreams, often staring out the window in a daze.

No one knew what was on her mind. They watched as she grew thinner by the day, avoiding any

    mention of the child.

"Hey, did you see that man this morning? He''s been here for several nights now, arriving at ten at

night and leaving at eight in the morning," a nurse whispered during morning rounds.

Another nurse marveled, "I don''t know whose family member he is, but he''s always standing guard,

never entering the ward. I saw him in a Maybach that day. Such wealth, yet he spends his days at

    the hospital. It''s odd."

Thement sparked murmurs, but Candice remained unfazed, still staring out the window from

    her bed.

The soft-spoken nurse asked, "Do you feel ufortable anywhere?"

Candice withdrew her gaze and gently shook her head.

The nurse nced at her, her brows knitting together. She advised, "If you''re not feeling well, you

need to let us know. You don''t look too good, and don''t worry about bothering us."

The patient in bed 208, due to her unique situation and her beauty, had often been a topic of

discussion among the department staff. So, the nurses paid extra attention to her.

The morning the police came to inquire about Candice''s situation, she was still lying in bed. Her

injuries required at least a month of rest.

After the police asked about the situation and noticed Candice wasn''t doing well, they didn''t stay

long and left the ward door slightly open when they exited.

Candice nced at the partially open door. The noise from patients and their families moving

    around outside bothered her.

Just as she was about to press the nurse call button to ask for the door to be closed, a tall figure

    appeared in the doorway.

It was Alex. His lips were pressed together, and his suit looked wrinkled and overall exhausted, with

dark circles under his eyes that stood out.

In just a few days, he had lost weight, and stubble had grown on his chin. It was quite a contrast to

his usual refined and dignified appearance.

He stood at the doorway, not stepping forward.

After a long moment, he finally asked in a soft, hoarse voice, "Are you not feeling well?"

He had been outside, watching the police go into the ward to question her. Seeing her pale face, he

    thought she must be tired.

Candice lifted her eyes and looked at Alex, devoid of emotion. She replied, "Yes."

Alex''s expression immediately turned serious. He said in a raspy voice, "I''ll go get the doctor for

    you."

"But it''s the sight of you that makes me sick," Candice said, pausing between each word.

Alex''s movements froze, and he turned his gaze back to Candice.

Her expression remainedposed. Due to her physical condition, her already petite face seemed

even smaller and frailer, almost as if she might copse at any moment.

His eyes flickered. Pretending as if he hadn''t heard her, he said, "Just wait here. I''ll go get a doctor

    to check on you."

"Do you not understand what I''m trying to tell you?" Candice''s tone was never loud, just like how

she usually spoke as if discussing something ordinary with Alex.

She reiterated, "Alex, seeing you makes me feel unwell; do you get it? Knowing you''re outside

keeps me up all night. Knowing you''re out there gives me nightmares the moment I close my eyes.

Your presence constantly reminds me of how you all plotted against me and my child."

    Candice gazed at him.

The sorrow in her eyes burst forth like a sudden flood, engulfing Alex in a massive current of

    emotions.

He couldn''t breathe or escape. He couldn''t hear anything except Candice''s voice, tinged with

    bewilderment and choked with emotion.

"I felt its heartbeat and its kicks. I never got the chance to know if it was a boy or a girl. I never got

to hold our baby. Alex, our child was supposed to be named Little Berry."

Like the shattering of ice, something inside Alex broke.

Little Berry. Ellis Elysian. That was meant to be their child''s name.
