Chapter 0422

    Chapter 0422

Candice was in the rain. She looked up and met Alex''s eye before quickly retracting her gaze. The

dense raindrops fell on her, quickly drenching her.

The young girl behind was in a panic, and kept asking Barox if he was in pain. Sawyer helped Barox

walk over and said, "Candice, could you open the car door?"

Candice''s drooping eyshes twitched. She whispered, "Thank you," to Alex and swiftly opened the

car door, helping Sawyer lift Barox into the car.

There was no need to be coy. Without Alex''s permission, Sawyer would not have been able toe

over to help. And now that Barox was injured, having Alex''s car made things more convenient.

She settled Barox in and was about to get into the backseat from the other side, but Sawyer had

already gotten in before her, so she could only walk to the front passenger seat.

Just as she was about to open the car door, the young girl timidly called out to her from behind.

"Miss, could you lend me your phone? I''ll call my dad toe over. He willpensate you for the

    medical expenses."

Candice had been so focused on Barox that she had forgotten about the young girl''s presence.

She turned around and saw that the raincoat the young girl was wearing was covered in mud, and

her blue and white school uniform was also dirty. Her hair and face were also filthy.

Candice hesitated, just about to speak. Alex pushed the door open and got out of the car, reaching

her side in a few steps. He nced down, and Candice instinctively stepped back.

Alex said tly, "Get in the car, I''ll handle this."

Candice looked up at him. Alex''s expression was as cold as water, with a slight frown between his

eyebrows, and a hint of displeasure in his eyes.

He raised his hand slightly to block in front of Candice and reminded her in a cold voice, "It''s

raining. If you catch a cold, it would be troublesome."

The rain seemed light, but it was very dense, soaking through clothes quickly. Candice''s hair and

coat were already wet. As soon as she got into the car, she felt the warmth inside. She pursed her

lips and looked out through the window.

Alex''s high-end suit waspletely exposed to the rain, wet patches covering it. When Candice got

into the car, Alex had walked the young girl over to a small sheltered area near to the building

entrance. The shelter was narrow, with just enough space for one person, and he stood outside,

shielding the young girl from some of the wind and rain as he negotiated with her.

In just a few minutes, he turned around and walked back to the car, his stern eyes softened by the

    drizzle.

He went straight to the back and knocked on the window, calling Sawyer to get out of the car. "Her

family wille over in a while. You stay here with her and wait. After her parents arrive, take her to

the hospital to check for injuries."

He turned around, opened the car door, and got in. A burst of moisture came in with him.

He hesitated and asked Candice, "Do you mind if I turn on the heater?"

Candice did not answer. She took out a pack of tissues and handed it to Alex, looking forwards. She

said with a faint tone, "Just wipe it off."

Barox''s sprained ankle was not too serious. He just needed some rest. But the wound on his calf

was deep and long, requiring stitches.

Candice and Alex waited outside as Barox was stitched up in the emergency room.

The hospital''s heating was sufficient, and fortunately, they were wearing thick winter clothes. Only

their coats were wet. After sitting for a while, Candice felt morefortable. Alex stood next to her,

his wet coat taken off and casually held in his hand. He wore a waistcoat, shirt, and trousers, his tall

figure exuding a casual andzy charm.

Candice paused for a moment before speaking. "Thank you so much for today."

Alex''s indifferent gaze turned towards her. His hair was damp, with some loose strands falling over

his forehead, adding a bit of youthfulness to his mature look. He looked at Candice nonchntly

and asked in a slightly hoarse voice, "What are you thanking me for?"

"Thank you for bringing Barox to the hospital."

Alex''s gaze shifted again, his face expressionless as he said, "I''m not close to him."

Candice understood the implication. He had helped Barox because of her.

The corridor was bustling with people, and his voice was clear and audible. Candice looked up at

the sign on the door of the emergency department and did not say anything else. Regardless, she

    owed Alex.

After Barox finished getting stitches, Sawyer happened to bring a middle-aged couple and the little

    girl over.

The young girl pointed at Barox and said timidly, "Uncle, it''s this Mister."

The middle-aged man hurried forward, looked Barox up and down, and finally focused on the

injured leg, apologizing repeatedly. "I''m really sorry, young man. My niece didn''t mean to. Her bike

brakes broke for some reason, and then with the rain..." The middle-aged man took out a wad of

money from his wallet and handed it to Barox. "Let me cover your medical expenses. The rest can

be used to buy some supplements. Tina,e and apologize to this young man."

The girl called Tina obediently responded and ran up in small steps. She looked at Barox and said

crisply, "I''m sorry, Mister. It was my carelessness while riding the bike."

After apologizing to Barox, she also apologized to Candice and Alex. "Mister, Miss, I scared you and

made you get wet in the rain."

Tina was very cute, with a clear and melodious voice, and her apology was sincere.

Candice paused and asked in a gentle tone, "Did you hurt yourself anywhere?"

Tina extended her hand, showing a long abrasion on her palm. It stood out starkly against her fair

    skin.

Candice frowned slightly. She checked Tina''s palm and was about to speak when the middle-aged

woman said, "Our Tina is so brave. She was worried about the young man she bumped into, so she

    hurried over to apologize."

Genevieve Howles shook her head and looked at Tina lovingly. "This is Tina''s first time riding a bike

to school. We didn''t agree before, but unexpectedly, she secretly conspired with the driver today

and rode the bike by herself. Fortunately, she met you. If she had fallen on the road by herself, we

    wouldn''t have known even now."

Candice continued to look at Tina''s palm. She thought for a moment, took out a band-aid from her

bag, and carefully applied it to Tina''s palm. "You should take good care of your hands."

Tina blinked and suddenly looked a little shy, her face turning slightly red as she softly said, "Thank

    you, Miss."

Tina’s uncle, James Bruce, guided her to leave. Tina kept turning back to look, her eyes shining

brightly at Candice, looking very cheerful.

But Candice didn’t pay much attention. After they left, she looked at Barox and asked, "How do you

    feel now?"

Barox''s foot was bandaged, and his ustomed poker face was a bit pale. "To be honest, not

great." He paused. "If I could get a ride back in a Bentley, it might be a bit better."
