Candice had a change of heart, and this time, her expression wasn’t as bitter.
Hanley pocketed his phone and raised an eyebrow, asking her, “Feeling up for a meal now?”
She paused, then realized that he had declined earlier because he had sensed her bad mood.
Admiring his ability to perceive emotions, she felt somewhat moved.
In a subdued voice, Candice softly uttered, “Thank you.”
Without turning his head, Hanley said, “Stay away from Jackson in the future.”
She intended to ask why, but before she could speak, a clear voice interrupted, “Hanley!”
Hanley halted, looked up, and saw Yana waving at them while holding a man’s arm not far away.
Soon enough, Yana brought the man over.
She scrutinized Candice and Hanley, gossiping, “What a coincidence, are you two here for dinner
too?”
Hanley nodded.
Yana, quite self–assured, introduced the man by her side, “Let me introduce you to my darling
here.”
Thest time Candice had seen Yana was during her blind date with Alex.
However, Yana seemed unconcerned. Instead, she asked Candice, “I sent you a lot of messages
the other day, asking you toe shopping. Why didn’t you reply?”
Candice was startled. She had assumed Yana’s request to add her on WhatsApp was merely a
casual formality. Lately, with a lot on her te, she hadn’t been checking her messages, probably
missing Yana’s attempt to contact her.
Apologizing, she said, “I’m sorry, I’ve been really busytely and haven’t checked my messages
much. I probably missed yours.”
Yana looked at her as if she were an oddity. “Are there still people who don’t check WhatsApp?”
“My work WhatsApp and personal WhatsApp are kept separate,” Candice exined.
Fortunately, Yana wasn’t bothered. She let go of her malepanion’s hand and approached
Candice with even more curiosity, “I heard from Sieg that you’re Alex’s Chief Secretary, right? |

Over the years, quite a few wealthy youngdies had tried to glean information about Alex’s
preferences from Candice.
Yana asked, “How did you endure staying by his deadpan face for so long without resigning?”
Candice didn’t expect such a question, leaving her momentarily speechless.
The man Yana had brought along interjected, “Honey, why are you so concerned about other men
in front of me?”
As soon as this man spoke, Candice surmised he was likely some sort of yboy from a club.
She nced at Yana with a hint of surprise, given Yana’s cute and obedient appearance, never
expecting her to fancy this type.
However, when the man spoke, Hanley, who was nearby, darkened his expression and spoke in a
lowered voice, “If there’s something to discuss, then discuss it. Otherwise, leave.”

It was the first time Candice had heard Hanley speak in such a harsh tone, clearly showing some
irritation.
Yanaughed. “What, are you afraid I’ll corrupt Candice?”
After saying this, she winked at Candice. “Candice, want toe upstairs with me? My friends are
having a gathering, it’s quite fun.”
Candice already anticipated what Yana meant by “gathering“. She was about to refuse when she
heard Hanley speak up first, “Yana, what nonsense are you up to?”
Yana, always the rebellious one, didn’t say anything when Hanley kept silent.
But the moment he spoke, Yana had already half–dragged Candice inside. “Candice, let me tell
you, there’s every type inside. It’ll be a st.”
Candice did resist, but she dared not exert force seeing as Yana was wearing high heels. Although
she wasn’t wearing extra high ones today, they were still slender and tall, about twelve
centimeters. So, Candice let Yana pull her upstairs.
Fortunately, once inside the elevator, Yana whispered to her, “I was only kidding. It’s just a regr
bar upstairs. A friend of mine who returned from abroad is throwing a party there.”
Yana hadn’t lied, W
Candice followed her in, she heard singing, and the room was lively.
Yana led Candice inside and arranged for her to sit on a sofa before dashing to grab the
microphone.

Candice watched the chaotic scene in the private room without saying a word.
Since she was here, she decided to go along with it, especially since Yana wasn’t malicious.
Those who were friendly with Yana in these circles were mostly wealthy kids, lively and noisy.
After Yana had finished singing and returned, seeing Candice sitting alone on the sofa, she
gestured toward two young men nearby with amanding air, “Come and talk to thisdy.”
Candice raised her hand to refuse, “No need.”
However, the two young men had already approached. One of them familiarly took a ss while
the other took a bottle and poured her a drink.
At the same time, the lights in the private room suddenly brightened, followed by Sieg’s loud
voice, “Who was singing just now? It sounded terrible.”
Candice stiffened upon hearing his voice and slowly turned her gaze, indeed seeing Sieg lounging
around.
Soon after, he called out behind him, “Alex, hurry up. You said you weren’t feeling well tonight. Let
me keep youpany for a drink.”
Candice’s body stiffened even more, struggling to react.
Before she could fully process things, a cold male voice echoed, “Hmm.”
Although Alex’s voice was soft, due to the silence caused by Sieg’s interruption, Candice heard his
voice particrly clearly.
Instinctively, she wanted to get up and leave. However, the young man beside her holding a ss
of wine sighed, “Do you want to have a drink?”
The young man in his twenties deliberately acted cute, but his voice sounded somewhat sappy.
Almost all eyes in the room turned toward Candice.
Sieg, upon seeing clearly, raised an eyebrow and suddenly chuckled, “Oh, Candice, didn’t expect
you to enjoy this kind of thing?”
Candice kept her expression as controlled as possible, choosing not to respond.
Sieg nced at Alex beside him and scoffed, “Alex, look. You can’t judge a person by their
appearance. Your secretary might be ying around behind your back. Look at her, surrounded by
men, enjoying herself.”
The room fell silent, everyone sensing the mockery in Sieg’s tone.

Alex had remained silent all this while, standing at the door. His ck suit made him appear aloof
and noble.
His dark, unblinking pupils fixed on Candice from a distance, leaving her unable to read his
emotions.
But after a moment, he uttered a sentence with almost no emotion. “I underestimated her.”
Alex’s wordscked any emotion and were very light. Yet inexplicably, Candice felt his words were
chilling to the extreme, almost as if they were wrapped in a raging storm.
It felt suffocating for her.
She couldn’t help but curl her fingertips in response.
