Their gazes locked, and as Kristin approached Estre, she seemed oblivious to Isaac’s presence, her
eyes filled with only her daughter-inw.
With a radiant smile, Kristin reached Estre and called out her name again. Estre stood
up
from her chair and said, “Hi Kristin.”
“You’ve been back for a while, haven’t you? I’ve been meaning to invite you over for dinner but just
couldn’t find the right moment. When you were ill, I visited you twice at the hospital. You were sleeping
both times. By the time I went again, you had already been. discharged.”
Kristin then asked, “By the way, are you feeling better now? No more difort? There’s been a nasty
flu going aroundtely.”
“Thank you, I’m all better. You and Landon should take care of yourselves,” Estre advised, her
concern genuine.
Kristin’s grip on Estre’s hand tightened with emotion. Kristin knew, deep down, that her son hadn’t
treated Estre right over the years.
At this point, neither Kristin nor Landon knew about Estre’s pregnancy three years ago or that she
had taken a fall at Sandalwood Oasis while waiting for Jason to return. If they had, Jason would have
had some serious exining to do.
Not even Autumn knew about it, or else she would have been devastated.
Holding onto Estre’s hand, Kristin studied her favorite daughter-inw, and she remained blissfully
unaware of Isaac standing quietly beside them.
Obligingly, Isaac stayed by Estre’s side, silently clutching her leg as she and Kristin chatted. His big
eyes were fixed on the two of them, a picture of obdience.
Perhaps it was the absence of a father figure that made Isaac so well-behaved from a young age.
Whenever Estre took him out or engaged in conversation, he’d wait silently by her side.
If Estre gave him something to eat, he’d eat quietly. If she didn’t, he’d just watch her, never fussing or
causing any disturbance.
“Estre, Jason has actually been waiting for you all these years. That’s why he’s been reluctant to
finalize any paperwork. Maybe you could give him another chance? I’m sure he’d cherish it.”
Before Estre could respond, Kristin continued, “Oh, and Jason mentioned that as long. as you don’t
divorce, he’s willing to give you all of the Nelson family’s assets and shares. Estre, I can tell that
Jason still has feelings for you. I promise you, during the years you were away, Jason didn’t have any
rtionship with either Holly or Serene. Can’t you trust
me on this, just once?”
Kristin had been fretting over Estre and Jason’s marriage since before their wedding day.
She couldn’t understand it. Jason had grown up with several girls in their circle, and countless eligible
youngdies longed to marry him. But it was Estre who had caught Kristin’s eye since she was a
child. Although Estre seemed carefree, she was actually clear-headed and wise beyond her years.
Now, Estre was a renowned internationalwyer who had made her way without relying on her
family. She had even be a pir of support for Cole. Kristin’s affection for her only deepened. So
when Kristin encountered Estre, she didn’t beat around the bush and went straight to the point.

As Kristin made her case, Estre gently loosened her grip on Kristin’s hand, “Jason and I… we can’t
go back.”
“Nothing is irreversible in life, except death, Estre. As long as we’re within thew and haven’t
committed any crimes, we can always start over. You must have had feelings for
Jason once, and…”
Before Kristin could finish, Isaac, clinging to Estre’s leg, let out a tender “Mommy.”
Hearing this, Kristin turned to look beside her, feeling that the voice didn’te from around them.
Only then did she lower her gaze to the child at Estre’s feet.
Isaac looked up at Estre and called out “Mommy” again.
In the next moment, Kristin’s mind went nk, her breath nearly caught in her throat.
A child calling Estre ‘Mommy’? Could Isaac be Estre’s child? The thought nearly caused her to
faint..
How could Estre have a child? And one this big? Moreover, he bore a striking resemnce to
Estre as a child.
In just a few seconds, Kristin’s mind raced with melodramatic scenarios. Then swiftly. regaining her
composure, she stared intently at Isaac, wondering if he could be Jason’s child.
Estre, hearing Isaac’s call, bent down and scooped him into her arms. Isaac.
c wrapped his little arms tightly around her neck and called out “Mommy” once more.
With each cry of ‘Mommy, Kristin didn’t know whether to be overjoyed or heartbroken.
Just as Estre was about to speak, Kristin cut in, “Estre, is this Jason’s…”
Estre interrupted her, “Mom, Isaac has nothing to do with Jason. I left Ravenwood three years ago,
and Isaac is only one year and ten months old.”
Isaac’s delicate features and slightly smaller staturepared to other children his age
made Estre’s im usible, and anyone could see he was barely two years old.
Estre’s words struck Kristin like a de to the heart. She reached up to press a hand against her
forehead and copsed into a nearby chair.
Kristin had pieced it together now. The reason Estre had said that they couldn’t go back was that she
already had a child of her own.
And looking at the little one, it was clear as day he was Estre’s flesh and blood – the spitting image of
her at that age.
But if the child wasn’t Jason’s, what about all those fortune tellers’ predictions? Where on earth did
Landon dig up that chatan? Damn it, Kristin swore that she was going to get her money back from
that so-called psychic.
Noticing Kristin’s distress as she sank into the chair, Estre asked with concern, are you alright?”
Kristin frowned deeply, “Do I look alright to you? My life’s just been cut in half.”
“Kristin,
Estre tried to reassure her, “Don’t take it so hard. No matter how many grandkids you want, Jason
can make it happen.”
Kristin lifted her head to gaze at Estre. “Then I want you and Jason to have them. Would you?”
Estre replied, resigned, “It’s just not in the cards for us.” Estre had wanted children with all her
heart back in the day, but Jason had been against it.
Kristin’s brow was furrowed as she gazed at Estre and Isaac, her heart aching.
Estre turned to Isaac and said, “Isaac, say ‘grandma”.”
