    Fuming, Madeline mmed the door. She was ready to storm out, but Imogen’s hand shot out, gripping


    her wrist, “What do you think you’re doing? I’m warning you, Nn’s. engagement to Regina is set in


    stone. Don’t you dare rock the boat now. We can’t afford. the fallout.”


    Madeline simply rolled her eyes, “You’re too afraid to take a stand, always tiptoeing. What can you


    possibly achieve with that attitude? How did I end up with such a useless mother? You can’t give me a


    wealthy home or a noble status. Since you can’t provide those, I’ll just have to get them on my own.


    You better back off and not get in my way. Once I snag Nn, you’ll get to be his mother-inw and


    bask in the glory.”


    Imogen was at a loss for words. Her daughter’s audacity knew no bounds. Letting go of her grip, she


    stepped back, her voice trembling with a mix of anger and resignation, “Fine, if you’re so capable, go
