    Chapter 1642

Marcus’ lips curled into a subtle grin. “Even though I don’t remember, human instinct never lies. I still

    feel a pull towards her.”

Lea appeared bemused. “Marcus, you’ve got great taste. Even if you can’t remember the lovelydy,

you managed to resist Sophia’s charms for all these years. I admire you for that.”

Marcus smirked. “Thanks for thepliment. I’ll need you to keep quiet about what just happened

when your parents and Sophia return.”

Lea nodded. “No worries. I’m on your side now.”

Thaddeus and his wife, Bertha, found the private dining room their daughter mentioned on the second

    floor.

However, all they found was a waiter cleaning up leftovers.

The waiter informed them that the guests had finished their meal and left.

Thaddeus and Bertha couldn’t help but feel disappointed. They had hoped their daughter was right,

even if she had mistaken someone else for their long-lost savior. They wanted to at least see who she

    had mistaken her for.

In the end, they saw nothing.

Sophia, who came up after them, sighed in disappointment. “Dad, Bertha, everyone left. Did Lea make

use up here for nothing? Was this some sort of prank?”

Bertha immediately shook her head. “No, Lea wouldn’t lie on purpose.”

Sophia frowned. “Bertha, you need to stop spoiling Lea. This will only encourage her to lie more and

    cause bigger problems.”

Bertha wanted to retort, but as a stepmother, anything she said could be misconstrued by Sophia. So

she decided to let it go.

Thaddeus sighed. “Let’s go downstairs. There’s nothing to see here.”

Sophia shrugged. “We came all this way for nothing.”

Thaddeus, who had previously been supporting Bertha, was now walking alone. His mood had visibly

    changed.

Sophia snuck a smug nce at Bertha before following her father downstairs.

Bertha stood alone, looking at the empty dining room. She trusted her daughter and believed that the

good Samaritan might have been here. Perhaps she left quickly to avoid recognition or being found.

Sighing, she was about to head downstairs when her phone rang.

It was her college friend from M State.

Bertha answered the phone on her way downstairs. “Marlinie, what’s up? It’ste in M State. Aren’t you

    sleeping?”

A gentle, calm voice with a hint of coldness came through the phone. “I can’t sleep. I needed someone

    to talk to.”

Bertha could tell that her friend was upset and stopped walking. “What happened?”

There was a pause on the other end of the line. “My son… I think he found me.”

Bertha was surprised. “Really? How did he find you?”

Through one of my students. He recognized me from some notes and had my student arrange a

    meeting.”
