Chapter 277
Suddenly, Brett lost the ability to speak, as if a sharp knife had pierced him deep in his heart,
causing unbearable pain.
"Brett, I''m so tired." Maybe she was really exhausted, her voice was so soft that it was almost
inaudible.
Before, she thought that as long as a person was alive, everything would be fine. Now she realized
how hard it was to live, it was too unbearable. Time was like a knife, slowly cutting into her flesh,
every minute and second was torture.
"It was just an ident." All he wanted was for Izabe to be fine, but he found that herplexion
was getting worse and her body was getting skinnier.
It was him who made the doctor forcefully take away their child, but he didn''t expect that Izabe
would lose the chance to be a mother.
"ident?" Izabe looked at Brett and said in a hoarse voice, "Taking away my child is an
ident? Controlling my memory is also an ident? You don''t know how much damage one of
your idents can cause to someone''s life. Brett, are you satisfied with what I''ve be now?"
Brett admitted that he was selfish and unscrupulous in order to achieve his goals. But now he was
helpless. He was once the one in control, but things were changing.
"Izabe, I did all this because I love you too much."
"Your lovees at too high a price, I can''t bear it." In the time Izabe was amnesic, she had
fallen in love with Brett. She always marveled at how well he treated her. But now she knows that
everything he did for her had a terrible cost.
Now all that love is gone, turning into ashes.
"Izabe, I''ve never loved anyone in my life, and I don''t know how to love anybody. I want to treat
you well, but I always mess things up."
"I can tell you nothing. I''m afraid you''d be hurt if you get sick, and I''m even more afraid you''ll leave
me."
"Izabe, will you never forgive me no matter what I do?"
Brett''s voice became softer and softer. The first sentence was for himself, while the other two were
for Izabe. He was like a desperate prisoner who was ustomed to darkness but now had a
taste of the warmth of the light Izabe brought. How could he bear to return to the darkness?
"I said I would hate you for the rest of my life." Izabe said in a light tone, expressing hatred with a
calm face, showing no sign of bitterness.
Brett nodded, "I also said, I will make it up to you for the rest of my life, even if you hate me forever."
The two of them were now in a deadlock, trying to untie it would require cutting off one end - and
Izabe''s end was already in tatters, easily broken with just a gentle pull.
Izabe closed her eyes.
When Liam brought the urn containing the ashes back to the vi, he arranged for Brett to have
some clothes and toiletries prepared.
Tiara was feeling uneasy deep down.
Before packing the clothes, she asked Liam, "President Windham hasn''t been back for several
days. Is he going on a business trip?"
Liam replied without thinking, "President Windham is not on a business trip, he is in the hospital."
"How did he end up in the hospital? Is he feeling unwell?" Tiara asked with a worried expression.
"It''s not President Windham, it''s Izabe who is hospitalized."
Upon hearing this, Tiara''s eyes widened in shock and fear, and her hands clutched her apron, "
Izabe is back? Why did she end up in the hospital?"
Liam didn''t notice her abnormal reaction and replied, "Yeah, Izabe is in the hospital." He didn''t
reveal the specific reason for Izabe''s hospitalization and immediately changed the subject, asking
Tiara to hurry up and pack since he needed to take the items to the hospital.
Tiara rushed upstairs, opened the closet, and saw Izabe''s clothes on the right and Brett''s on the
left. Twopletely different styles of clothing were ced in the same wardrobe.
Izabe''s clothes were more casual, while Brett''s clothes were mostly serious shirts. You could
roughly see a person''s character from their clothes.
Tiara opened the suitcase and carefully packed Brett''s clothes. Finally, she put in two pieces of
Izabe''s clothes as well. Holding a sweater, she couldn''t help but shed tears.
Izabe is in the hospital - does this mean her child has been taken away? By now, the baby in her
belly should be four months old.
Tiara cried as she put away their clothes and brought them downstairs. Liam was waiting
downstairs, took the suitcase, and rushed to the hospital at once.
Tiara inadvertently murmured, "What a mess."
Returning to the hospital, Liam found the door to the room slightly ajar, not wanting to disturb the
resting people inside. Moving carefully, Liam nced inside.
Brett was sitting alone on a small stool, looking utterly dejected. Hearing the sound, he turned to
look at the doorway.
He was still the same ambitious man who had topped every major financial tform, but his eyes
were filled with indifference and gloom. At first nce, he appeared restless, but deep down he was
vulnerable.
Liam quickly snapped back to reality, gently pushed the door open, and said, "President Windham,
I''ve brought your luggage."
"Take it out and put it in the cupboard." The hospital room was well-equipped, including a wardrobe
with plenty of hangers.
Liam hung the clothes in the wardrobe as quickly as he could, and then, taking a quick nce at the
seemingly fast asleep Izabe, asked, "How is the madam doing?"
Brett put his index finger to his lips, and Liam immediately fell silent. Brett gestured for them to go
outside, where he silently got up.
"President Windham, how is Izabe?"
The two stood in the smoking area, and Brett lit a cigarette. "She had her uterus removed and can
no longer get pregnant," he said bitterly, "Liam, did I do the wrong thing?"
"President Windham, you did it for her well-being, but you were just a bit too forceful. You should
have told the madam from the beginning that she had stomach cancer and couldn''t have a baby."
"I was afraid she would remember and leave me."
"But is this any different from when she hated you before?"This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
The atmosphere in the smoking area was heavy, and it seemed that someone like Brett, who didn''t
know how to love, could only be ruthless. Love but not seek, always unattainable, he was too dark;
even with good intentions, the oue would always be a mistake.
"Yeah, no difference." Brett snuffed out his cigarette and leaned against the wall with a bitterugh.
"President Windham." Liam thought for a moment and tried to persuade him, "Why not let her go?"
"No way!" Izabe was the support of his life, and he couldn''t even bear to think about what his life
would be like without her.
"President Windham, do you want a living Izabe or a dead one?" As an assistant, there were
many things he couldn''t say outright for fear of offending, but he was afraid that if he didn''t wake
Brett up, he would regret it immenselyter.
"I''ve already done so much, how can I let go?" Brett said helplessly.
"If I let her go now, she will die. Didn''t you see the look in her eyes when she woke up? There was
no light in them, just dead silence. She said she hated me, but her tone didn''t change."
It would be best if Izabe could hate him. People have emotions and desires, and hatred could
also prove that a person was still alive. If the hatred disappeared, she would be like a walking dead.
Brett''s mood became gloomy, almost swallowing him up. Liam licked his lips and said with difficulty:
"President Windham, I''m just afraid you''ll regret it."
Brett grinned bitterly: "I''m already regretting it. If I could turn back time, I''d rather not have met her."
He shouldn''t have fallen for Izabe; someone like him who didn''t understand emotions would only
bring her pain. Life isn''t perfect, and they''vee this far, there''s no turning back.
Liam was silent for a long time: "But in two months, you''ll be engaged to Kaley. What about your
wife then?"
"It''s just an engagement, not a marriage. Izabe''s blood type is too rare. I''ll find someone with the
same blood type as her as soon as possible, so I won''t be held back by Kaley anymore."
Izabe would definitely need surgeryter, and he needed Kaley''s blood.
Knowing he couldn''t persuade Brett, Liam didn''t say more. Brett nced at his watch: "It''s been five
minutes. I should go back. She''s scared to stay alone in the hospital."
Liam looked at Brett''s back, wondering when that stubborn figure had be so lonely?
Izabe was unusually quiet. After her uterus was removed, she couldn''t eat for 72 hours, and could
only receive nutritional fluids.
The nutritional fluid was milky white, thick and viscous. Izabe always feared pain, so Brett asked
the nurse to ce a catheter, so the fluid would flow slowly and not hurt so much.
On October 24th, three days after Izabe''s surgery, the weather turned cold. Izabe was afraid of
the cold, and her body couldn’t take cold weather.
Brett asked the caretaker to buy a heating pad at the supermarket, charged it, and put it under
Izabe''s hand to warm.
Because of past experiences, Brett didn''t dare to touch Izabe too much, afraid of causing her
disgust and hurting herself.
Brett stayed carefully in the ward while Izabe acted like nothing had happened, watching TV,
spacing out, and sometimes staring at the birds outside the window non-stop.
At night, Izabe often woke up from nightmares, gasping heavily like a dying fish struggling on a
shoal. Brett hugged her tightly, his body warm, but couldn''t warm her heart.
Cold liquid flowed into her neck, and he cried for the dead child and for Izabe losing the right to
be a mother.
Izabe didn''t care about the catheter in her left hand, raised her hand and forcefully grabbed the
man''s neck.
Her strength was too small to even hurt him, let alone strangle him.
Her hand, gripping Brett''s neck, trembled constantly, not because of fear or pain, but because it
shook uncontrobly.
"Don''t touch me, it’s disgusting."
"Fine, I won''t touch you. But don''t move your left hand either, there''s a needle in it."
Brett let go of her shakily, sitting back in the chair by the bed. He didn''t even dare to look at her, let
alone embrace her in the best way possible.
It seemed that the end of their rtionship was destined to be tragic, so even an intimate action like
a hug was heartbreaking.
Izabe closed her eyes again, her mind bing cloudy, sometimes confusing the time, always
feeling like she was still in that inconspicuous little town, the small rental house was her home, the
bed was small but warm, and the meals not fancy but filling her stomach. The child wouldn''t starve.
Izabe ced her hand on her abdomen, trying to feel it as usual, then suddenly woke up, her
pupils pitch ck.
Brett said she was sick and couldn''t have children, and she did get sick, turning into a chronic
illness with no cure, only death bringing relief.
She was alive, but her soul had long vanished, perhaps joining the dead child in turning into a
handful of ashes, sealed into a narrow porcin bottle.
