Chapter 273
It seemed like Izabe saw a long-buried memory resurfacing in her mind.
Brett said, "Izabe, have a baby with me. If you don''t want to, I''ll tie you to the bed."
"Brett, look, I''m pregnant with your baby. Why did you suddenly change your mind?"
Izabe''s eyes narrowed, her pupils slightly dted, making her eyes look gray and misty.
Her nail-less hands were pitifully curled up, asionally twitching slightly. She was too weak to
breathe, as if on the brink of death.
Suddenly, she felt her lower abdomen loosening, and at that moment, she knew her baby had left
her body. She didn''t know where she found the strength, but she managed to hold on until the end,
asking, "Is it a boy or a girl?"
The doctor answered stiffly, "It''s a boy."
His name would be Bet, her baby would be called Bet Salotti.
"May I see him?" The previously agonized Izabe looked calmer now, her eyes even regaining
some brightness.
The nurse closest to her thought that this woman looked like she was dead inside.
At that moment, Izabe seemed neither sad nor indifferent, as if the person who had been
desperately calling for help wasn''t her.
As a mother, she had the right to see her child, even if he was stillborn. The doctor wrapped the
baby in a towel and picked him up.
As Izabe looked, she saw a wrinkled little bundle. A four-month-old baby was still very small, all
red like a little monkey, with blurred facial features and his tiny hands pitifully curled up as if trying to
hold on to something.
The room was dead silent, the quietness making people''s scalps tingle.
Izabe was still bleeding, moving her hand toward the doctor''s, trying to touch her baby.
She hadn''t even had the chance to go to the hospital and look at him through an ultrasound scan,
and he was already gone.
Izabe''s bloodless lips trembled, her child inches from her fingertips, but she was too afraid to
touch him.
The sight was too cruel, the doctor holding the baby had to turn away, unable to watch further.
The sound of the nurse''s quiet sobbing was grating; her eyes nkly stared at them. Wasn''t it them
who had "killed" her baby? Why cry at this point?
How ridiculous.
There was no greater grief in this world than the death of a loved one.
She had lost her only family, her support, and half of her life.
Suddenly, Izabe bared a grin and let out a hystericalugh, uglier than any cry.
If only she knew this oue earlier, she wouldn''t have gotten an ovtion shot, wouldn''t have
conceived a child, and spared him this pain.
Izabe took her child from the doctor''s hands, tears streaming down her face, her nose and mouth
filled with the smell of blood.Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDra/ma.O(r)g!
The doctor tried to console her.
Izabe''s eyshes trembled: "He had just started moving and never had the chance to actually
come to this world."
"Why didn''t death take me instead?" Izabe muttered. The grim reaper had taken her child, and
with it, the lifesaver she was clutching.
As Izabe choked, she vomited another mouthful of blood, feeling dazed like she was in a dream.
"Baby, I''m sorry. It''s my fault." Izabe''s vision began to fade as she took onest look at her child
before closing her eyes.
With Izabe rapidly losing blood, her oxygen saturation levels were dropping. The operating room''s
lights reflected her now-transparent white face.
The doctor had anticipated this moment and prepped blood transfusions for Izabe. Her blood type
was rare, so finding a match would have been extremely dangerous if not for a volunteer donor
arranged by Brett.
That person was Kaley.
When Kaley heard about the massive blood loss, she knew her opportunity had arrived. She''d been
waiting in the hospital long before, anticipating this exact situation.
Brett signed numerous notifications and agreements before instructing Kaley to donate blood.
As Kaley stood in front of him, she said, "Brett, this is the second time I''ve saved her. I can donate
blood to her for free, but you have to promise me one thing."
Brett''s calm demeanor was a fa?ade. Upon hearing Kaley''s words, doubt crept into his heart.
He tried to steady himself: "State your demand. When you finish drawing the blood, I will promise
you."
Kaley shook her head: "I no longer trust you. Brett, I''m the only person who can save Izabe. After
all, I am the only one in the world with the same blood type as her. I can help her today and more
times in the future. You know my worth."
Brett''s face turned green with fury. He knew Kaley would make demands, but he hadn''t expected
her to do it at such a crucial moment.
"Just say it."
Kaley smiled slightly: "After saving Izabe, get engaged to me!"
