Chapter 157
After dealing with Heckter, Brett returned to the hospital.
His face, originally pale and tense, eased up a bit upon seeing Izabe, who remained unconscious.
"Why hasn''t she woken up yet?" Brett asked anxiously.
The doctor then exined, "Ms. Salotti has a sedative in her bloodstream and has experienced a
significant shock. It''s possible she won''t regain consciousness until tomorrow."
Hearing "sedative," a chill ran up Brett''s spine, his heart tightened and rxed, and tightened again.
He dared not think what would have happened to Izabe if he had been just a bitter.
Brett had not even had time to change his clothes, which were stained with blood. The doctor
suggested, "Mr. Windham, why don''t I look after Ms. Salotti while you go and change your clothes?"
Brett nced at his clothes only then and noticed the bloodstains. "I''ll have my assistant bring
something over."
With that, the doctor didn''t press any further and left after giving a few reminders.
Liam arrived at the hospital, carrying a set of clothes, and caught sight of Brett seated beside
Izabe''s bed, gently sping her hand. Brett''s face was partially obscured by shadows, making it
difficult to discern his expression, yet there was a glimmer of warmth in his eyes.
Warmth? Liam was taken aback to witness such a tender expression on Brett''s face.
He rubbed his eyes in disbelief.
Suddenly, Brett''s voice broke the silence, cutting through the air with coldness. "Why are you just
standing there at the door?" Startled, Liam released his grip on the clothes and realized his initial
perception had deceived him.
Liam walked in, carefully carrying a suitcase. "President Windham, your and your wife''s clothes and
toiletries are all in here."
"I''ll go change. You stay here and watch her," said Brett, rummaging through the suitcase for a
change of clothes.
The hospital room was well-equipped, resembling a cozy hotel room rather than a sterile medical
space. Brett entered and hurriedly took a refreshing shower. The bright bathroom light entuated
his already paleplexion, perhaps amplified by the water droplets on his face. Liam briefly
mistook Brett for being injured as well.
"Okay, you can head back now. I''ll stay here and look after her. You take care of things at the
company for a little while," Liam suggested, offering Brett a temporary break from his
responsibilities.
Liam was used to this and had long been numb to such work arrangements.
After Liam left, Brett was alone in the room again. When people are in a quiet ce with nothing to
do, they inevitably think about random stuff.
Thinking back to the scene when he burst into the underground casino, even someone as calm as
him had lost hisposure in such a situation.
In the middle of the night, Izabe suddenly developed a fever. Brett pressed the call button to
summon the doctors and nurses.
The fever was caused by an infection in her wound. The doctor gave Izabe a shot of antibiotics
and told Brett, "Ms. Salotti has a slight fever, but it''s nothing serious. Just remember to give her
some water."
Seeing Brett''s furrowed brow, the doctor tried to reassure him, "Don''t worry, she''ll definitely wake up
tomorrow. You should rest too. Don''t be too exhausted to take care of her when she wakes up."

Brett nodded.
As Brett fixated his gaze on Izabe''s face, the doctor recognized his deep concern. Sensing the
need for privacy, the doctor quietly exited the room, gently closing the door behind him.
Brett tenderly caressed Izabe''s pale countenance, observing how she always seemed to find
herself battered and bruised. Despite her evident care for those around her, she appeared to
neglect her own well-being. It troubled Brett that Izabe would willingly take such risks, venturing
into an underground casino alone for someone like Lucas.
Yet, he couldn''t deny his own culpability, as both he and Heckter had exploited her vulnerability
through their association with Lucas.
Brett leaned against the headboard and pressed his throbbing temple, trying to soothe his
headache.
