Chapter 2
Exhausted, Izabe climbed up the stairs and fumbled with her keys, unlocking the door with a half
turn to the left. As soon as she entered, she could feel something was off, and her groggy brain
instantly became alert
She heard a voice talking on the phone through the door
Brett was back
Should she tell him about her stomach cancer? Would he care for her then?
Izabe kept asking herself these questions, but by the time she realized it, shed already pushed
the door open and saw Brett, pale faced, staring at her with a furious expression
“Where the hell have you been? Look how many times I tried to call you!”
Hell? Sure, if going to the hospital for a blood test and gastroscopy is considered hell. After
receiving the results, she felt like such a fool
As she pondered the situation, tears welled up in Izabe’s eyes However, Brett remained oblivious
to her red eyes and instead gave her an using look for not answering his calls Izabelta retrieved
her phone from her bag, its screen nk, and uttered, “It’s dead”
She had two phones: one for work and another dedicated solely to waiting for Brett’s calls. Her
stomach had been in turmoil for the past few days, and in her pain, she had forgotten to charge the
phone, resulting in missed calls from Brett on her way home.
What’s so urgent?” Without even thinking, she knew it had to be about Kaley
Before she could finish her thought, Brett had grabbed her hand and started dragging her outside.
“Kaley’s injured, lost a lot of blood. You have toe with me to the hospital”
Of course, all of his concern was for Kaley Cot.
Her heart was filled with bitterness
Kaley had a severe coagtion disorder and a rare blood type, which happened to match Izab’s
izabe was soaked from the rain, her long hair sticking wetly to her back, her lips turning white,
and her hands as cold as ice. Brett didn’t notice any of this. Kaley’s hospital was nearby. just a ten–
minute walk away, but he was so anxious that he pulled Izabe into the back seat of the car
While Brett drove, his gaze fixed on the road ahead, he caught a glimpse of Izabe’s pallid
complexion in the rearview mirror. His brows furrowed involuntarily. “Why is your face so pale.
almost ghostly?”
“So, you’ve finally noticed huh?”
Izabe smirked, her throat feeling constricted as if a stone were lodged within it. She rolled down
the car window and gazed at the pouring rain outside. Her body shivered from the cold, her breath
forming icy fog, and her eyshes quivered
Brett gave her an indifferent look and, seeing her silent, an inexplicable irritation rose within him.
He felt that there was something off about Izabe today
But after some thought, he figured Izabe’s troubles had nothing to do with him, and he should be
paying attention to Kaley’s condition instead. With this in mind, he pressed down on the elerator,
speeding up the car
Upon reaching the hospital, Brett guided Izabe directly to the blood collection room, his icy gaze
fixed on a nurse as he dered. Here she is.”
A bitter smile tugged at Izabe’s ips. Brett seemed to trust her blood more than he trusted her as a
person. Didn’t he fear that the cancer cells lurking within her could find their way into Kaley’s body?
Brett’s eyes narrowed dangerously as he firmly grasped Izabe’s chin, his voice cold as ice. “I just
want to remind you not to forget our promise. Of course, you have the option to turn back now
That’s right….she had made a promise to him.
This was her debt to Brett
One year ago, Kaley had an ident in A City, and due to not getting to the hospital in time, she
lost a lot of blood and urgently needed RH–negative blood
Desperate for help, Brett pleaded with Izabe for help
And she agreed
At the time, she said she wanted to marry him.
The shock and disgust that lingered in Brett’s eyes upon hearing those words remained etched in
Izabe’s memory.
In that instant, she realized that peaceful coexistence with Brett was an impossible dream.
She’d never meant to take advantage of Brett’s vulnerability and force him to marry her
But this man was inherently dark, and he believed Izabe was coercing him
Brett was born into the prestigious Windham family and had been superior since birth, with the
capital to match his temper. He was used to having the best things in life and being the center of
attention, so it was the first time someone had put pressure on him like that
So when she saw Brett agree without hesitation, she was overjoyed. And she thought his
agreement was genuine
But thinking about it now, her h?rt ached from the bitterness What a ridiculous misunderstanding
Unfortunately, Izabe newer expected that her little joke would backfire so quickly
Now she was diagnosed with a terminal diness, and really it served her right!
111 do it. Besides, n’t this saving someone’s life? Don’t worry, I’m volunteering “Izabe gave a
smallugh and sat down in the chair
The nurse, witnessing the frailty and weakness of Izabe, a woman unlike any she had
encountered before, focused on her pale wrist and gently inquired, “Are you sure you can handle
this?”
Izabe nodded, her voice hoarse 11l be fine”

However, the nurse hesitated to proceed with the regr blood donation, noticing that the woman’s
hands were unnaturally cold, far below the normal body temperature.
Right before Izabe passed out, she heard Brett ask the nurse, ‘Is it enough?”
How had Brett be so heartless over these years?
When Izabe woke up again, she was alone in the hospital room
