Chapter 169 Sry discrepancy
Linda was almost sure that there was something fishy going on. She turned to look at Bun, "Please find
out how many staff there are in the school, and which ountant handles the payment of sries."
Bun looked at her quizzically. "My Lady, there isn''t a specific person who handles the payment of our
sries. The finance office is responsible for the statistics and the HR office handles the payment."
"Okay, then could you find out the number of staff? "
"No problem, I''ll check it for you." Bun responded and stood up. She headed to the administration desk
to get the information.
After a few minutes, Bun returned. "My Lady. There are a total of 43 teachers in the school. Plus the
logistics staff, so the total staff adds up to 80."
"Eighty?"
"Right."
Confused about what Linda was doing, Bun asked, "My Lady, what''s the matter? Why do we have to
check the number of staff in the school? Is there something wrong?"
Linda nodded and replied, "Well, yes. I have found a discrepancy. Look at our payrolls. Our sries
don''t add up correctly."
Bun took the calctor and added up the numbers on her payroll. She found that there was indeed an
issue; one Yuan was missing.
Bun nced at Linda and said admiringly, "My Lady, you''re very smart. How did you figure it out?"
"I''ve always been good with numbers. But this is weird. Even if someone in the finance office steals
one Yuan from everyone''s sry, it would be only 80 Yuan in total. It''s just worthless and too risky.
I don''t think anyone would risk getting fired and going to jail for criminal liability for only 80 Yuan. It
doesn''t make any sense." Linda sat down on a chair, racking her brain for a logical reason.
"I agree it''s very suspicious and doesn''t make sense. But to be on the safe side, I''ll ask around and
investigate, find out who might be profiting from our sries. We don''t know anything thing else yet."
Bun said, already forming a n of action in her head.
Linda nodded and said, "Okay Bun. Thank you." She knew she could always rely on Bun for support.
The day passed peacefully. As it was Friday, Linda was not very busy. sses were over at half past
two every Friday afternoon. At 3 p.m., Charles came to pick Linda.
They had ns to stay over at the house of Mu n over the weekend.
At the school gate, Linda saw Charles and trotted over. Seeing Linda, Charles got out of the car and
opened the door for her.
"Where''s Paul? Is he noting with us?"
Linda nced around, searching for Paul.
"Paul has some affairs to attend to. He won''te with us, but he''ll be back next week."
Linda nodded and got into the car with Bun.
Linda guessed that Paul had made an excuse to avoid Bun because he didn''t know how to face her. It
would be awkward if they met. Their rtionship was over before it began. Bun had made her choice,
and chose Brian. Linda could see why, Brian made her happy and the chemistry between them was
real.
After his disy of affection a few days earlier, and Bun rejecting him, Paul might feel ashamed to
stand beside Bun.
Linda knew Paul well. He would rather upy himself with his work than get embarrassed.
As Paul was not there, Charles drove the car and Linda sat in the passenger seat.
Sitting in the back seat, Bun kept silent, as if she was invisible, and revealed no emotion.
Linda noticed her demeanor through the rear-view mirror, but didn''t say a word. While driving, Charles
reached out to Linda
Interlocking his fingers with hers.
She was happy to feel the warmth of Charles'' hand pressed against hers. A tingling sensation ran
through her body like electricity. The interlocking of their hands was a gesture of their love.
"How was your day my love?" Charles turned to face Linda as he waited for the red light to turn green.
His breath hitched for a second. How did I get so lucky? He thought, admiring how the afternoon
sunlight bathed her soft skin, bringing to life the arch of her brow, the slit of her eyes, the curve of her
lips and the depth in her eyes.
Linda caught Charles staring at her, and she blushed. He was still gawking even when the lights turned
green. She smiled softly. "Hey. Stop staring and drive. Well, Friday is usually a slow day. You know,
people are preparing for the weekend."
"Yes, it''s the weekend."
Originally, Charles had mixed feelings about Linda working.
There were so many responsibilities and activities within the Xia and Mu ns that Linda could
participate in.
But Charles knew the kind of person Linda was, and wanted her live ording to her own will. Besides
he knew that the business world was not her cup of tea.
"By the way, today is my pay day." Linda said, almost bragging.
"Is it? How much have you earned?"
"Over six thousand. I think it''s not bad."
Charles smiled and then touched Linda''s head. "That''s great. My wife can make money now."
Displeased to hear Charles'' words, Linda retorted, "Don''t look down on me. I used to work, okay? This
is my first formal job!"
"Well, of course of course. I''m proud of you, Love!"
Charles was always in a good mood when he spoke to Linda, and sometimes he even teased her
because he found it amusing to see his wife getting irritated.
But of course, he did that only to Linda, for he was not interested in any other women. With such a
beautiful and delicate flower by his side, what more could he want? Charles thought, gently squeezing
Linda''s hand in the process.
Ping! Half an hourter, Bun''s phone alerted her that she had received a message.
She took a quick look at her phone and said to Linda, "My Lady, I have found out all the information you
required."
"Information? Linda, what are you looking for?" Charles asked.
"Well, you know that we have received our sries but when I double checked, there''s one Yuan

missing on our payrolls. I mean, both me and Buns'' anyway. It''s weird, isn''t it? So I asked her to
investigate and find out who handled our sry payment and if there was any foul y."
"Oh okay. That''s definitely suspicious. So both you and Bun have received one Yuan less? Is it just you
two or there are others?"
"Well, I haven''t asked anyone else. As I haven''t seen their payrolls, I didn''t to make any conclusions.
So I have asked Bun to check that person''s family background and see if there''s any clue."
Charles knew that Linda liked to investigate cases and to find out the truth. Her moralpass was
straight as an arrow, and even though anyone else would have let the case go, she wouldn''t.
She stood her ground, always, and never backed down in the face of danger.
Charles worried about her sometimes, but he also realized that thats what made her strong. She loved
her for that.
Charles had heard of cases where a simr kind of situation would ur inpanies or institutions,
but only a few people would evere forward and protest.
