Chapter One:


    I held the little old game box in my hands.  It hardly looks like it was tampered with, but its worth a fortune this altered game box. I just bought this online the other day, eager for this game box that looks like a harmless toy even though it has illegal electronic parts that has been banned for some time.  I wanted to see the inside so badly to find out if it has the illegal parts I wanted that I almost cracked the top cover of the game box with my screwdriver  when I tried to quickly open it up.  The description online said it had the altered pieces, making it worth so much.  I finally got the cover loose, I succeeded in opening my little treasure chest.  I was overjoyed with the idea that I have struck gold,  looking carefully at it I saw the electronics made by an entertainment corporations, indeed it had demo parts from the infamous experiments.  The “C.O.D.Y.S.  project”, a project with the use electronics to create an a way to alternate realities, a part of the project was for the use of entertainment.  However only a few have been made, and some were made illegally outside of the company.


    I didn’t care if it was illegal parts, I don’t care if the project has been banned.  I think it was a cool idea, and I will not let the project die in vain.   I let out my breath when I poked the pieces I needed.  I dumped the game box shell with the others I got, some were fakes, some were legit, some were ambiguous.  I carried my treasured pieces I needed to have to create my “alternate reality room”.  I have decided to think bigger, with the idea that since the small portals  were unstable, thus by making the portal larger it could be controlled.  I took the parts to the room, the walls were filled with thick cords hanging twining around like overgrown ivy.  I almost tripped on the cords tangled on the floor, there wasn’t a spot not covered in electronics.  I think I got all the parts I needed, but honestly I don’t know.  I hoped as I connect the pieces in that I can set up the portal to alternate realities, but then mid-thought I heard a crackle as the  spark shot out at my finger when I put the last piece in.


    ‘Something is wrong! The equipment isn’t on yet, in fact the wires wouldn’t be live as caution when putting the parts in’, I thought, ‘maybe that spark just shorted it out and it won’t work now.  It will be impossible to get new parts again.’  I heard a buzz of electricity, as soon as I heard the noise it was too late to react.  I felt the electricity coming up my leg seizing me in a paralysis.   ‘This wasn’t supposed to happen.  I am going to die.  I am going to die,’ I thought as the pain of the electricity cramped my legs.  The pain went up to my chest, instinctively I inhaled, but couldn’t exhale. Black dots filled my vision, when suddenly it clustered to a black hole that opened in front of me, that must be the portal to alternate realities.  ‘I did not set the destination though, it could go anywhere,’ I thought, ‘But better than dying.’  I reached my hand to the endless black hole that stretched sucking cords loose and papers I had lying around.  The feeling of my face and hands tingling as it felt like I am being split apart, I could not feel or even aware of my lower body.  My elbows started to hurt like its being stretched at odd angles. Then all of a sudden I was no longer aware of anything not even pain, I exhaled the breath I was holding sending pain everywhere.

I woke up.  ‘Ugh.  I am alive if I am in pain, right?’ I thought as everything ached, ‘Feels like I’ve been through a strainer.’  I looked around to see greyness all around that stretched forever.  A few blue streaks crackle on the floor like rivers.  The blue streaks glowed and seem to follow a path along the ground.  ‘Well it’s not a yellow brick road, but it’s the only thing to follow.  Otherwise I can get lost in this endless grey world.  If I follow it at least I may not walk in circles and can investigate this place better,’ I thought.   I followed the blue glowing streaks that throb faster than my heart is racing, until I finally gave up and sat down.  When I gratefully stretched my legs on the flat grey ground I thought, ‘I have walked for at least a day without water or food’.  ‘I guess it could’ve been worse, I could’ve been trapped in a place without air, a world made out of just water ,or…,’ my thoughts were interrupted by a noise.  It was just a small scraping noise, but it was enough to make me think that I might not be alone. ‘Finally, I could be saved, or it could be danger,’ I mumbled to myself.


    I heard the scraping noise getting louder, it sounded like metal scraping metal. Like a metallic tuning fork, the noise resonated shrilly getting closer.  I stood up, getting ready to run if I needed to.  Then there was a barely audible thump, and the grey world was full of silence again.  I waited listening to hear anything at all to indicate there was danger, or any life in that matter on this world.  ‘Could I even call this a world?  It seems like grey eternity, with no sky or earth, this must be a plane between realities,’ I mused.  I huffed out a sigh, I didn’t even know I was holding my breath.  ‘Guess it would take more than an airplane to get me off this trans-reality plane. Hmmm maybe I could name this plane of reality T-R plane.  Why not?’ I thought as I felt gloomy at the idea that even though I discovered a new plane of reality, I could not share the excitement back at home with someone.  ‘If only I looked at the notes better, or have done more testing I would have not ended up in this T-R plane, I could have been at a planned spot that was at least suitable if not a paradise….,’ thinking of fantasies of what I expected the adventure to be like.  ‘At least in every fantasy idea I had, I was supposed to meet the girl of my fantasies, quite literally,’ I mused.


    ‘Maybe a girl like that.’ I thought, as I saw a ghostly form of a woman swim in front of my eyes.  Obviously I am so dehydrated that I am hallucinating.  My eyes got heavy, they were spinning, but before falling into the grey dregs that was dragging me to sleep I definitely felt something soft touch my chin as I fell.  ‘Maybe that was part of a dream,’ I thought as I finally was dead to the world, lost in a world of dreams.
