Chapter 501

    Chapter 501

Interrogator Smith and Sergeant Grant turned their heads simultaneously to see a young boy standing in the doorway, his

expression icy. "Exin our protocols to the suspect clearly; there is no need to rough him up. Let him confess properly. Violence

is never the only solution to our problems," the boy stated with authority.

"Yes, Major. I''ll make sure to follow the regtions during the interrogation," Smith nodded vigorously in agreement.

Grant, however, was taken aback as he observed the boy outside. He was struck silent, unable to utter a word.

That face bore an uncanny resemnce to his sister Anna, especially those pale blue eyes that were a mirror image of hers.

Jonas, the boy, merely gave Grant a cold nce before turning on his heel and walking away.

He had just happened to pass by when he saw Smith using excessive force on the suspect and decided to intervene.

Violence wasn''t the answer to anything.

Once Jonas had left, Grant snapped out of his stupor, shouting after the retreating figure, "Come back, kid! | need to talk to you

    —it''s important!"

The officer in charge of Grant''s interrogation swatted him with his baton. "Shut your trap! That''s Major Jonas, not some kid you

    can holler at!"

The baton''s blow left Grant dazed, and he waspletely astonished by Smith''s revtion. "Is he a Major? He is so young!"

"Of course! What do you know? Stop wasting my time and confess your crimes," Smith said, punctuating his demand with

    another swing of his baton.

Grant was defenseless against the beating, and his speech became slurred in pain. "Stop, please. | must speak to that boy—

your Major. Didn''t he just tell you not to mistreat suspects?"

"Damn it, confess, and stop messing around!" Smith was tired of listening to Grant''s slick talk; he knew that a few more hits

    would make himpliant.

The interrogation room echoed intermittently with Grant''s cries of pain and his calls to speak to Jonas.

However, such sounds were all toomon in the police station, and nobody paid attention to Grant''s pleas.

Meanwhile, having left the interrogation room, Jonas returned to his office feeling lonely and downhearted. Even though the

recent operation had been a resounding sess, he didn''t feel triumphant. Instead, he was filled with mncholy.

Over the past two years, he had pushed himself hard and achieved honors and medals rarely awarded to someone his age.

Yet, one thing weighed heavily on his mind — his sister Anna, who had been taken away at birth, was still missing.

Jonas sighed and gazed out of his office window, wondering silently, "Sister, where are you?"

Unbeknownst to him, his sister Anna was living in the very hideout of the suspect Grant, in a ce far from here.

    Hawaii.

In a quaint suburban home, Hector was on edge. He hardly slept a wink as his wife, Bianca, was due with their first child any day

now. He had put work aside to stay close, ensuring he''d be there for her when the time came.

Compared to Hector''s anxious hovering, Bianca seemed serene. She went about her daily routines. Her once slender figure was

    now rounded with pregnancy.

Hector had suggested multiple times that they head to the hospital, but Bianca refused, insisting thefort of home was far

preferable to the sterile environment of a hospital.

“Honey, can''t we just check into the hospital?" Hector pleaded as he handed her a bowl of freshly washed grapes. This was the

hundred-and-first time he''d broached the subject.

"No," Bianca replied, popping a grape into her mouth. "Hmm, so sweet. I''ve told you countless times, | don''t want to go to the

hospital yet. It''s not asfortable as home."

Hector massaged her shoulders in an attempt to ease the tension. "| worry about you, that''s all. It''s hard seeing you carry such a

    burden every day."

Bianca, while munching on grapes, shook her head dismissively. "It''s just a few extra pounds. | really don''t want to smell

disinfectant all day. Trust me, it''ll be fine."

Before Hector could voice his remaining concerns, Bianca cut him off. "Let''s not talk about this now, okay? Natalia will be here

soon. She should be almost at our door."This is the property of N?-velDrama.Org.

“Natalia ising over?" Hector was surprised. "With her busy schedule, what brings her to our home?"

It wasn''t unusual for Hector to be curious about Natalia. She was a celebrated local artist and had been swamped with

commissions. Her paintings were in high demand.

"Natalia messaged me a few days ago," Bianca exined. "She has some free time this morning and offered to paint a portrait of

    me before the baby arrives.”

"A portrait? Why not just take a photo?" Hector didn''t quite grasp these sentimental gestures.

Bianca gave him a knowing look. "You don''t understand. Some things can''t be captured in a digital photo. Besides, it''s a kind

gesture from her. She''s been so busy, yet she''s making time for me. I''m touched."

Hector nodded, acknowledging the rarity of Natalia''s time. As they chatted, Natalia''s melodic voice called from the doorway,

    "Bianca?"

“Right here, Natalia. Come on in!" Bianca called back, attempting to rise from the couch.

Hector quickly steadied her. "Take it easy."

"Come on, I''m not made of ss," Bianca protested, trying to rise on her own. But the effort made her wince, and she gratefully
