Chapter 102
The doctor slowly took off his face mask and said solemnly, “Ms. Floretta fainted due to an allergic
reaction. May I know what she had for her dinner?”
Evander grimaced. Sensing his icy gaze on her, Angeline felt as if someone was pressing a dagger
against her throat.
“I brought Floretta to a seafood buffet to celebrate thepletion of Jacob’s filming tonight. She has
never seen a crab, so I let her eat some…”
Her voice gradually grew softer as she spoke. She stared at the floor, not daring to meet Evander’s
eyes.
“Do you know why Floretta has never seen a crab?” Evander’s voice was cold. “That’s because she’s
allergic to crab meat. Who allowed you to bring her to that ce of your own ord?”
Angeline didn’t respond.
She shuddered in fear and shrank herself as a look of devastation spread across her face. Why didn’t I
think of that? I must have lost my senses at that time!
“I’m sorry, Mr. Golding. I didn’t know about Floretta’s condition.”
“Why do you think you were born with a pair of hands? Don’t you know how to make a phone call?”
Evander questioned her harshly while fixating his gaze on her, capturing every detailed change in her
countenance that reflected her emotions.
“It was my fault. I failed to rify the situation. I’m sorry,” Angeline uttered apologetically. Tears
brimmed in her eyes, and she looked as if she could cry in the next second.
Evander’s wrath gradually dissipated as he took in her reddened eyes. He didn’t say anything else
afterward.
Shortly after, the nurse exited the room while pushing a stretcher. Floretta had drifted off to sleep. Her
hand was attached to an IV drip, and her fair, petite face was tear-stained.
The little girl appeared extremely pitiful in that state.
Evander followed the nurse into the ward.
Angeline stood rooted to her spot for some time before she silently trailed behind them and headed
toward the ward. However, recalling how Evander had reprimanded her, she didn’t dare to enter the
room.
She stood in the corridor and looked at the environment inside the room through the door and windows,
nning to leave the ce without worry once Floretta regained consciousness.
“Are you Angeline?”
At that moment, a frosty, feminine voice sounded from behind her.
She turned around and saw an old woman in her mid-sixties. Thetter was wearing a dark-colored
gown, and her hair was white. Despite her age, the old woman’s temperament was as impressive as
ever.
Angeline couldn’t help but gulp because the old woman didn’t regard her with a friendly expression.
“Yes, that’s me. You are—”
“I am Evander’s grandmother. I heard of you a long time ago, but I haven’t been able to instruct my
subordinate to invite you over to have a chat because of the Golding family’s reputation.”
Angeline’s expression changed drastically. She’s trying to intimidate me right after we meet face-to-face
for the first time. As expected of a woman from the Golding family. She carries herself differently.
Nevertheless, Angeline wasn’t a timid person. She recollected herself instantly, curved her lips lightly,
and revealed a polite smile.
“Old Mrs. Golding, I’m undeserving of your personal invitation. If I had known you wanted to meet me, I
would’ve visited you at your residence.”
Her reply prompted a hint of surprise to sh across Valerie’s eyes. Subsequently, Valerie spoke in a
less severe tone.
“You’re quite eloquent. I heard that Floretta adores you, and you even stayed in the Golding residence
not long ago. Aren’t you aware that Evander has a fiancée?”
Angeline knitted her brows and borated, “Nothing happened between Evander and me.”
“Why would Evander allow you to stay in the Golding residence if nothing happened between you two?
Even Olivine has never stayed there.” Valerie sneered and began revealing her true colors. “As the heir
of Golding Group, it is only normal for Evander to satisfy his needs with other women. However, he will
need to return to his family ultimately. You’re still young, Ms. Sorelle, so I suggest you not sully
yourself.”
Angeline clenched her fists in a rage. The heel of her high heels identally hit a trash can with a
thump.
“You really think too highly of your grandson. In my opinion, he’s just a tyrant with a bad temper. Sorry
to disappoint you, but I’m not at all interested in him.”
She couldn’t stop herself from uttering those words in a fit of anger. Why is this happening? I didn’t do
anything, yet she’s using me groundlessly.
“You!” Enraged, Valerie forcefully mmed the walking stick in her hand against the floor.Original content from N?velDrama.Org.
“Grandma.”
At that moment, the door to the ward was pushed open, and Evander walked out. “Quit arguing. You’re
disturbing Floretta’s rest.”
“How is she?”
“She’s just suffering from a mild allergic reaction, but her condition has stabilized,” he said while staring
coldly at Angeline, evidently more repulsed by her presence than before.
Angeline lowered her head guiltily and utterly regretted her impulsive speech. It seems that he heard
every word I said just now.
“Okay. That’s good, then. Get Francesca toe over and take good care of her. You should hurry up
and return to the office to deal with your work,” Valerie said. Immediately afterward, she nced at
Angeline in absolute dissatisfaction. “And chase this ill-mannered woman away!”
With that, Valerie entered the ward.
An awkward silence lingered in the air as Evander and Angeline were left alone in the corridor.
“Mr. Golding, I—” Angeline was about to exin further, but Evander didn’t give her a chance to do so.
“Floretta is fine. You may leave now, Ms. Sorelle,” he said unemotionally before returning to the ward.
Slighted and left alone in the corridor, Angeline felt deste. She pursed her lips as tears filled her
eyes once again.
Still, she med herself because she knew she didn’t have the right to resent anyone else.
The next day, Angeline deliberately woke up early in the morning and borrowed a mini cooker from one
of the film crew members. She used four hours to prepare a pot of nutritious soup for Floretta.
Seizing the period before the shooting began, Angeline hastily brought the soup and drove to the
hospital.
When she arrived near the door to the ward, she slowed down, feeling a little nervous. I wonder if
Evander is still inside. If he knows I’m here, I reckon he will kick me out of the room and tell me to take
this soup away with me.
At that thought, she couldn’t help but stop in her tracks and lean against the cold wall. She waited for
some time until she calmed down before walking forward again. I don’t care anymore. I’ll endure his
scolding for Floretta’s sake!
Unexpectedly, right after she reached the entrance of the ward, she heard a gentle, feminine voice
coming from inside the room.
“Evander, you look exhausted. Did you stay up all night to take care of Floretta?”
“I’m fine,” Evander responded. Then, he strode up to Floretta’s bedside, touched her forehead, and
asked concernedly, “The fever has subsided. Are you feeling ufortable elsewhere?”
“I’m feeling a little itchy,” the little girl answered piteously with a slightly hoarse voice.
Heart aching, Evander coaxed her tenderly, “The nurse will be here to apply medication for youter.
Bear with this for another three days, and you’ll recover.”
“That’s right, Floretta. I know you’re not feeling well, so you must remember this lesson and stay away
from those indecent women,” Olivine advised the little girl sincerely and earnestly.
