    Chapter 60

“The money went through many hands, getting transferred around the ounts of the suspect’s friends

and family. That goes to show how much thought went into the devious scheme. We can also ascertain

that the money didn’te from the defendant’s ount but from an ordinary, forty-something

housewife who had contact with Ms. Sherrock recently,” the defense attorney said unhurriedly. He

rested his piercing gaze on Olivine for a brief moment.

A sullen look appeared on her delicate face. However, looking around and observing the many pairs of

eyes on her, she forced herself to maintain herposure.

“I hope that the defendant’s attorney minds his words. Everything has to be supported by evidence. If

one merely makes baseless usations based on spection, what can that prove?”

The defense attorney sneered. “Justice will prevail. That’s the end of my argument.”

The court’s final ruling was that Angeline was found not guilty and could be released immediately.

Nancy hurried over and hugged Angeline. Thetter leaned her head against Nancy’s shoulder, finally

finding a release for the grievances she had suffered for many days.

“Thank you,” she choked out tearfully, her eyes reddened.

Nancy could not help chuckling in her ear. “The person you should thank isn’t me.”

Realization seemed to dawn on Angeline when she heard those words, and her expression gradually

    turned grim.

Evander, Olivine, and Valerie walked over from where they had been sitting.

He stared at Angeline deeply as he passed by her, his gaze clearly not as cold as before.

Feeling a confidence boost after winning thewsuit, Angeline looked back at him calmly. Then,

emphasizing every word clearly, she said, “I told you I’d surely win, Mr. Golding.”

“So, should I apologize?” Evander asked without responding to her remark, slowly walking toward her.

He was so tall that he could easily loom over her.

His naturally imposing aura still sparked fear in her heart. She swallowed hard, then replied evenly, “I

only wanted to ask that you refrain from using the threat of cklisting me to try and pressure me again

    next time.”

She speaks in such an arrogant manner. Frankly, I don’t think even Golding Group’s higher-ups would

dare take that tone with me.

However, for some reason, Evander tolerated her disrespect. She’s the most troublesome woman I’ve

met, yet everything always gets resolved in the most dramatic way, just like in a movie.

“I promise,” he answered in a maic voice.

“Huh?” Angeline was not expecting him to agree so readily.

Valerie, who had been standing to one side without saying anything, was displeased. She could not

help cautioning in a low voice, “Ms. Sorelle, although you’ve won thewsuit, the Golding family will

continue investigating thoroughly. You haven’tpletely cleared your name yet.”

With that, she left the courtroom while dragging Evander with her.

Stunned, Angeline stood unmoving with a darkened expression. It seems that this elderlydy is not

someone to be messed with. But then again, that’s normal. I mean, how many people who’re

acquainted with Evander are not like that? As long as I know I haven’t done anything wrong, I’m fine.

“Feeling smug, are we?” Olivine remarked, ring at her.

Angeline shot her a frosty look and sneered, “I’m afraid I don’t understand what you mean, Ms.

Sherrock. I see that the judge and attorneys haven’t left yet. If you have something to say, you’re more

than wee to request a retrial.”

Rage surged through Olivine, and she wished she could tear Angeline to pieces.

However, with so many people around, she could only grit her teeth and leave with a scowl.

Outside the courthouse, the driver was waiting for them at the entrance. Evander helped Vrie into

the car and instructed the driver to send her home first.

Joy filled Olivine’s heart when she walked out and saw Evander standing at the entrance. She quickly

took a few steps toward him.

However, the sight of his solemn expression caused her to feel a little scared, and the smile on her lips

    faded.

She slowed her footsteps and asked hesitantly, “Evander, what are you—”

“This is my final warning to you. Don’t use my grandmother as a crutch or even think aboutying a

finger on my daughter. Otherwise, there won’t be a single person who’ll be able to protect Sherrock

    Group.”

His cold and impassive voice rang in Olivine’s ears for a long time.

    “Evander, listen to me—”

Feeling wronged, she started to exin. However, Evander gave her no chance to do so as he got into

    his car and left immediately.

She stood frozen to the spot, dumbfounded.

I’ve known Evander for years. Although he always avoids me, he has never spoken so harshly to me

as how he just did today.

She was also feeling a little regretful. Back then, I shouldn’t have listened to Joseline and worked with

her to get Angeline imprisoned. Look at what has happened now. I’ve shot myself in the foot.

After Evander got into the car, the driver in front turned around and asked respectfully, “Are we going

back to the office now, Mr. Golding?”

Evander was about to respond when he spotted Angeline and Nancy walking out. The pair appeared to

discuss something as they climbed into a white car. However, they did not head in the direction of the

    house or the office.

Instead, it seemed as though they were driving toward the venue of Hanson and Joseline’s wedding

    not too far away.

“Follow that white car in front,” Evander ordered, his lips curving into an unfathomable smile.

Well, it looks like there’ll be a good show today.

The hotel Hanson and Joseline had chosen for their wedding was the tallest building in the city.

A long, red carpet stretched from the hotel’s entrance to the fountain, andvish decorations decked

the lobby with ribbons and balloons everywhere. All the guests mingling around were either wealthy or

    powerful.

Upon arriving, Angeline watched as the bride and groom stood at the entrance, weing every guest

with bright smiles. What a picture of respectability.

She could not help sneering inwardly as she held the gift Nancy had prepared for her.

“Congrattions, my dearest sister and brother-inw.”

As she spoke, she deliberately drew out every syble.

The smiles on the couple’s faces froze when they heard her voice.

Hanson was the first to speak. Frowning, he asked in a surprised tone, “Angeline? Isn’t your trial taking

ce now? Why have you left?”

“I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I’ve won thewsuit,” she replied nonchntly as though she were

merely talking about a mundane family matter.

Despite her answer, Hanson still could not believe his ears. How could she have won the court case

just like that? Unless… Evander didn’t make his move. But how is that possible?

“Well, it’s good news that you won. Since you’re here, you should go in.” There was now a hint of guilt

in his voice, and he looked at her with mixed emotions.

He could not help feeling difited that Angeline would be attending their wedding.

If all those things hadn’t happened back then, we’d probably be the ones getting married.

Angeline continued maintaining a polite smile on her face. Gazing at Joseline’s pale face, she pressed

the gift into her sister’s hand and said, “May you have a long and blissful life together, Joseline.”

Her wishes sounded perfectly normal, but if one listened carefully, her tone was enough to send shivers

    down one’s spine.
