Reba’s face turned red instantly. She tried to sit up, but Jacob held her shoulders down again.
“Becky, you don’t want your C–section scar to reopen, do you? If you won’t think of yourself, at least think of Lily!” Jacob said, ncing sharply at Harvey. N?velD(ram)a.?rg owns this content.
Harvey stood there, looking down to avoid Reba’s gaze.
“Harvey, I know you’re under pressure. Are they threatening you? We’ve been through so much together, we can get through this too. Please, don’t give up!” Reba began to cry, hoping Harvey would rush into her arms, but he remained still.
“Becky, please sign these divorce papers and make this easier for all of us,” Harvey said, his voice trembling.
“I don’t know what they’re doing to you, but this is a mistake, Harvey! This divorce won’t solve anything! Please, stop this nonsense and tell me what’s really going on,” Reba pleaded, reaching out to him, but he ignored her.
“There are no threats or intimidation. This is purely my decision. I’m sorry it has to end this way,” Harvey said, still avoiding her eyes.
“Look me in the eyes, for God’s sake, Harvey! At least give me a reason why you’re doing this to me!” Reba shouted hysterically.
Harvey wiped the tears from his eyes and took a deep breath. “If this is about our baby
“I would never hold you back just because of our baby. Marriage should be more than that! I can raise Lily on my own. So answer my question, Harvey! Why do you suddenly want to divorce me after a year of happiness together?” Reba asked, clutching her scar that felt like it was being pricked by hundreds of hot needles.
“I still love Alicia,” he whispered softly.
“No…” Reba shook her head in disbelief.
“I’ll leave the documents here. Please sign them. I’ll make sure you get more than enoughpensation for you and our baby,” Harvey said, his jaw tightening as he held. back his emotions.
“LOOK ME IN THE EYE AND TELL ME THAT AGAIN!” Reba roared, her neck veins visible. She ignored Jacob, who was caught between her and Harvey.
Harvey looked up, his sharp eyes meeting Reba’s. “Let’s end this here, Becky,” he said, almost crying. He turned and walked out of Reba’s hospital room, his hands. clenched tightly at his sides.
Reba clutched her hair and screamed loudly.
Jacob hurried to embrace her, trying to calm her down. He pressed the red button to call the nurse.
“Excuse me, is something wrong? We heard screaming,” the nurse said, hurriedly adjusting her sses.
Reba no longer held back her emotions. She cried like a helpless child.
Jacob spoke softly to the doctor who had just entered, exining that Reba was under severe stress and had be hysterical.
“Can you give her a sedative so she can rest?” Jacob asked, looking worriedly at Reba, who was still crying. He remembered their first meeting when she was crying in front of his cafe, and even a yearter, she was still crying over the same man.
The doctor nodded. Momentster, he administered a sedative and pain relief medication through Reba’s IV, making her very drowsy.
“Jacob…” Reba called, blinking her eyes.
“Yes?” Jacob leaned closer to hear her.
“Am I not worthy of happiness?” she whispered before falling asleep.
The next morning, Reba was awakened by the sound of a baby crying. She opened her eyes to see Jacob holding Lily.
“Lily…” Reba called hoarsely.
Jacob turned, surprised. “Becky, you’re awake?” He approached the bed, rocking Lily, who was still crying.

“Are you sure? Is your scar better?” Jacob asked, reluctant to hand Lily over to Reba.
Reba nodded. “I’m fine. Can you get the blue bag over there? I think she’s hungry,” she said, taking Lily from Jacob and holding her warmly.
“I’ll make her milk, wait a moment, Jacob said, busy reading the instructions on the milk box.
“Thanks. Where’s Cathy?” Reba asked, looking around the room, puzzled.
“She said her mom was admitted to the ICU and asked me to take care of Lily because Olive had to be there too. They were afraid something bad would happen and they wouldn’t have a chance to say goodbye.”
“What?”
Reba stared in shock. She quickly grabbed her phone from the bedside table and called Cathy, but it went to voicemail. She sent a short message of support instead.
“The milk is ready!” Jacob called, handing the bottle to Reba.
“Thanks, Jacob. I mean it…”
Jacob nodded. “No worries!” he said, pulling up a chair and sitting by the bed.
Lily’s crying stopped once she started sucking on the bottle. Reba smiled slightly, her daughter’s innocent face warming her heart.
As she looked up, her eyesnded on the white envelope Harvey had left the previous night, and her heart pounded. Her breath quickened, and her chest felt tight.
“Becky?” Jacob noticed Reba’s change and frowned, confused.
“Are you okay?” he asked, leaning in to check on her.
“Can you hold Lily for a moment?” Reba asked, gasping for breath.
Jacob quickly took Lily from Reba’s arms and pressed the red button.
Soon, the on–call doctor and nurse arrived. They checked on Reba swiftly and gave her oxygen.

“Mrs. Specter had a panic attack. She’s calmer now. Try to distract her with pleasant thoughts. If the symptoms persist, we rmend seeing a psychiatrist,” the doctor told Jacob before leaving the room.
“I don’t need a psychiatrist,” Reba whispered as Jacob sat back down beside her bed, holding Lily.
Jacob sighed deeply and nodded. “Yeah, you don’t need one. You know you can vent your anger on me. Think of me as a wall or a tissue box.”
Reba stared at the ceiling, recalling her convers
