BIT 38

    Chapter 38

Reba vomited in the toilet till she thought all of the organs in her stomach were about to fall out. It would be simple if Nichs‘ primary desire was money, like Alicia, Mia, and Theodore. But that man was fascinated with her, willing to lie simply to stay together, which made her shudder and feel horrible.

She gasped for air and rinsed her face with cold water, but she didn’t feel any better.

“Here, wipe your face,” Cathy said, holding out a tissue to Reba, who was standing before the mirror like a living corpse. “Cathy,” Reba said in a half–whisper. Cathy turned her head, raising one eyebrow rather than a question mark.

“When Alicia pushed me off the top of the steep marble stairs causing me to miscarry, do you think Nichs was involved too?” Reba inquired, hesitant to receive the answer she already knew.

Cathy shook her head, “None of us are aware of that; maybe yes, maybe no. So, what do you intend to do now? You couldn’t possibly return to Nichs‘ apartment and endanger your life, right?”

Reba shook her head, “I’m not sure what I’m going to do anymore.” “If everyone wants me to die, why am I still alive…?” N?velD(ram)a.?rg owns this content.

Suddenly Cathy pped her hands in front of Reba’s face. “Wake up, Becky! That’s not something that shoulde out of your mouth. We have to focus! Set your goal! Is knowing the truth enough or do you want them all to get their due punishment?” she babbled.

Reba couldn’t hold back the tears that just fell. She wiped it carelessly then looked at Cathy with a sad twitching face. “I will make them all get the punishment they deserve, even worse!”

Cathy smiled. “That’s my girl! Come on, let’s go back to the table, we have to talk about what we n to do,” she said as she took Reba’s hand and led her to leave the toilet.

Reba clenched her fists. “Cathy, we need to take them down by spreading all evidence!”

“All this evidence is not enough, Becky, we need other valid evidence but while looking for that evidence we have to make sure that you will be okay,” said Cathy seriously.

She leaned in, lowering her voice. “I have a plin, but it requires you to go back to Nichs Pretend you believe him, get close, and gather more evidence. I know you’re sick of it, but it’s also the only way to keep you alive because Alicia or Theo will not harm you without Nichs‘ consent.”

Reba swallowed hard. The thought of being close to Nichs again made her skin crawl. But she had no choice. “Alright,” she said finally. “I’ll do it. But we need to move fast. If they suspect anything, it could get worse.”

Cathy nodded. “I’ve got your back, Becky. Well bring them down together, okay?”

“Oh, Cathy, thank you! Appointing you as my manager was the best decision I’ve ever made!” Reba eximed, hugging Cathy firmly. Reba exited the café with determination burning in her chest. She would no longer be the victim. It was time to fight back, and she would stop at nothing to ensure justice was served.

She walked to Nichs‘ Apartment since she needed a moment to absorb everything. She knew Nichs would easily read her mind if she appeared before him with a trembling body like that. And suddenly, the rain was falling heavily. She dashed to the shop’s terrace, seeking protection. She stood up, holding her freezing body, and then tears streamed down her cheeks, leaving her sobbing alone.

“Hey, you can take shelter inside, the wind is very strong out here,” said a man carrying an umbre. Reba looked up, “Thanks, but no need, my clothes are already wet, I don’t want to dirty your floor,” she said while wiping her tears.

The man with the umbre tilted his head slightly, concern etched on his face. “You look like you could use some warmth and a ce to sit down. Please,e inside. I own the ce, so I don’t mind the floor getting a little wet.”

Reba hesitated for a moment but then nodded. “Thank you,” she murmured, following the man into the small, cozy café. The warmth inside enveloped her, and she felt a tiny bit offort seeping into her bones.

The man led her to a booth near the back, away from the prying eyes of other patrons. “I’ll bring you a hot drink,” he said gently before disappearing behind the counter.

Reba sat down, hugging herself tightly, still shivering from the cold rain and the emotional turmoil inside her. A few minutester, the man returned with a steaming cup of tea. “Here, this should help,” he said, cing the cup in front of her.

“Thank you,” Reba said again, wrapping her hands around the warm cup. She took a
