chapter 62: figgins wine

    chapter 62

when I get off of the train I start to look around for transportation, luckily I find one pretty quickly

before any Church leader spots me, it would be annoying to have to deal with one right now. after

asking some questions, it seems as though there is a merchant caravan heading to the port town

I''m going to, dropping off cloth and picking up fish. I head over to the merchant in charge of the

    caravan for a little talk.

"good day sir, I was wondering if I could bargain with you a little." jack

"oh, now this isn''t something you see around here every day, a demon walking in the light of day.

state your offer, you have no enemies here." merchant

"I desire transportation, to a port city on you route. I could run it alone but being caught in this area alone by the church would be a hassle. one that I would rather avoid." jack

"what do I get in turn?" merchant

"a true businessman, an extra sword couldn''t hurt during these times" jack

"protection for transport, I''ll take you up on your offer, what''s your name kid?" merchant

"jack, no surname. what''s yours?" jack

"ah, sorry to hear that. names Brian echo" Brian

in this world orphans, like me, do not get surnames. it was a way to distinguish between different

ranks in society a couple hundred years ago.

    "when do we leave?" jack

"5 minutes, good thing you got here when you did" Brian

"AI, it is a good thing. I hope for a quite road." jack

"a quite road would be nice for once, too many bandit attacks recently." Brian

"that''s what I''m here for" jack

the ride should take 2 days, the first of which I spent doing the same thing I did on the train,

meditating. got a whole 2 points in every stat from it. the second I was interrupted 3 times by a

bandit attack. I killed all the bandits, not a single one escaped, much to the delight of Brian.

after a slightly tearful good-bye on the part of Brian, who begged me to stay and be his personal

bodyguard, I went over to the docks. I repeated the process I did when I tried to find transport to the

port city, trying to find someone heading to the alfalm continent. after hours of searching, i was

unable to find anyone willing to bring me to the alfalm continent, some superstitious bullshit

spread by the church about demons being unlucky on the open sea, and most sailors have

interacted with all sorts of creatures so they know exactly what I am.

I stop looking when the sun goes down and find an inn to spend the night in, just a cheap one

frequented by rougher folk. after checking in I go to the bar, I really want some of my favorite drink,

figgins wine, named after the fruit, which was named after the guy that first documented it. the

fruit, as I have said earlier, grows really well near places with a lot of built up mana, such as areas

that gods frequently visit as they leak mana into the environment.

I look around for an empty table and find none, so instead I find a place to sit with a group of what

    looks like soldiers.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

    "is this seat taken?" jack

"no, sit where ever." man with ax

after I sit down a waitress comes up and asks me what I want, after telling her she runs off.

"expensive taste, are you rich or something?" man with ax

the group I''m sitting with consists of three men and a woman. one man with an ax, more bear than

man relay, has thick black fur like hair covering every exposed inch of skin. another man with a

rapier, stereotypical pretty boy. the third man was carrying a mage''s staff, he was kind of gangly

looking, like a teenager that hasn''t quite grown into their height. the girl had cloths and was rather

    curvy.

"are you kidding, the kid probably has no idea what hes ordering, probably never felt a woman

    either." pretty boy

"I''ve been with plenty women, and figgins wine is a local specialty where I live." jack

"oh yeah, prove it." pretty boy

"ever heard of Juliet Roberts?" jack

"that erotica author?yeah I''ve read her work" pretty boy

Juliet Roberts is one of the nymphs that regularly join in on my nights out in the forest, she is also a

very successful erotica author, yes those two things are linked.

"all her stories are things that actually happened, and I''m one of the characters. the dark one I think

    I was called." jack

"what? seriously?! I''ve always dreamed of having orgies like the ones you have, I am so jealous."

    pretty boy

the pretty boy broke down into a cross between being star struck and jealousy.

"Jonas is a huge fan of Juliet Roberts, not that I can blame him, I am too" bear man

    "I can tell" jack

"I would thank you for making this idiot less of an ass but you just made him a different kind of

    annoying" girl

at this point, my drink came along.

''this is definitely one of the worst I''ve ever had.'' jack

"what line of work are you in?" bear man

    "mercenary, you?" jack

"same, were all old war buddies, saved each others lives more times than I can count." bear man

"you look familiar, does the battle of nonarin plane remind you of anything?" mage

"biggest job I''ve ever received, best paying too." jack

"I knew it! you were the assassin that was killing the generals which led to our loss! we still got paid

just not as much as we could have gotten" mage

    "teach me, master!"Jonas

while we were talking Jonas was having a monolog about how great I was and how jealous he was

    of me.

    "no" jack

    "please?" Jonas

he starts to make a sad puppy dog face.

    "no" jack

    and now he''s pseudo-crying

    "still no" jack

"wow, I''ve never seen anyone reject Jonas that hard before, I''m impressed. names Jane by the way"

    Jane

    "jack" jack

for a few hours we talked, sharing old war stories mostly. till I decided to go upstairs for some real

sleep, meditation is fine but it can''t beat the comfort of real sleep.
