William was leaning against the head of his bed when he said, “Mom, Bri and I are over.”
“Why can’t you give Ca a chance, then?”
“Because I’m just not into her.”
Outside the door, Ca was clutching a thermos. Her eyes were suddenly rimmed red.
William had been waiting for Brittany for years, and she had been waiting for him.!

“Mom, let’s drop the subject, alright? I want you to prepare a contract for me. I don’t want the shares Bri

“You don’t want the shares?” Mrs. Dillion was fuming, “William, do you even know what you’re saying?
That’s what Brittany owes you.”
“Mom, she doesn’t owe me anything.” William insisted, “I chose to love her. Anything I do for her, I do
willingly. I won’t take those shares. I don’t need her to owe me anything.”
He just didn’t want topletely sever all ties with Brittany.
Even if they couldn’t be a couple, they could still be friends.
Mrs. Dillion was stunned, “William, I can’t support this.”
Brittany had made the Dillion family lose dignity. She had to pay for it!
William and his mother were at an impasse, so he chose to keep his mouth shut.
The standoff between mother and sonsted a while before Mrs. Dillion couldn’t take it anymore and
left the room.
As she opened the door, she ran into a clearly crestfallen Ca.
“Ca, you’re here?” Mrs. Dillion remembered William’s words and felt a pang of sympathy, “Don’t
listen to his nonsense. He just broke up and he’s probably not in the best mood.”
Ca shook her head, “It’s okay.”
She lifted the thermos in her hands and asked, “Can I go in and see him?”
Mrs. Dillion didn’t stop her, “Go ahead.”
Ca stepped into the room with her thermos.
William looked surprised for a moment, then asked, “Why are you here?”
“You’re in the hospital. I wanted to check up on you.”
Ca looked at William, who seemed to have lost a lot of weight. She felt a twinge of heartache, but
mostly helplessness.
Seeing the guy she liked all gloomy because of another woman, it felt like her heart was being
shredded.
She put down the thermos and sat down on the edge of the bed, “William, are you okay?”
William always kept work and personal life separate. He never took out his bad mood on others, not
even now.
“I’m fine. Thanks foring.” He paused and said, “Ca, you heard everything I said just now, didn’t
you?”
“I… I didn’t hear anything.” Ca reflexively denied; her lips were trembling, “William, can we not talk
about this, please?”
Looking into Ca’s eyes, which were filled with sympathy, he saw a reflection of himself, “Ca, you’re
still young. You can find someone better.”
Clearly, William didn’t think he was the one for her.

Ca bit her lip. Her eyes instantly welled up, “William, I like you. I never thought about being with you.
I just hope we could chat asionally. Can’t we even be friends?”
She knew all of William’s attention was on Brittany. She knew how painful it was to love someone you
can’t have. She just wanted to asionally chat with him. Was that too much to ask?
William looked at her swollen eyes. He felt a twinge of heartache, but he still stood his ground.
“Ca, you
deserve someone better.”
“But you are the best.” Ca’s eyes were red as she said, “In my eyes, you’re the best.”
“I don’t need anything. I just want to asionally chat with you. Is that too much to ask?”
William’s lips moved slightly. He was silent for a while before saying, “It’s alreadyte. You should go
home and rest.”
