Chapter 1977 No Point Talking

    Chapter 1977 No Point Talking

When Charles fell into silence, Melissa heaved a sigh and said, "Charles, when are you nning to

    bring the kids back home?"

The moment she put forth this question, Charles''s face turned somber. It wasn''t like he could bring

    them home as he pleased.

Seeing how Charles didn''t know what to say, Melissa began to feel even more sorrowful. She

understood from Charles'' silence that he didn''t have any rights over his own kids.

Realizing that nothing good woulde out of this conversation, she decided not to press him for an

    answer.

When they arrived at the Dream Garden, Charles wanted to say something. However, Melissa didn''t

give him a chance. She immediately headed to her own room.

Charles''s eyes, which were fixated on his mother''s back, gradually turned doleful.

"Mr. Lu, is there something wrong?" David sensed something strange in Charles'' behavior.

"Nothing. Let''s go back to thepany now." Charles got into the car with a nk look on his face.

Standing on the balcony, Melissa watched the car leave. "It''s all my fault!" she admonished herself. "If it

weren''t for me, you and Sheryl would be living a happy life!" she continued.

Now her thoughts turned to Vicky, which only intensified her guilt.

Before leaving, Charles had advised Nancy to take care of Melissa.

He knew that Melissa must be feeling terrible, but had no idea as to how he could console her. In such

a dire situation, Nancy was his only hope.

    "Knock! Knock!"

    "Pleasee in!"

Melissa wiped the tears from her face and asked the person toe in.

Nancy had brought Melissa her favorite desserts. From the smeared make-up on Melissa''s face, Nancy

figured Melissa had been crying prior to her arrival.

"Ma''am, Mr. Lu has asked me to prepare these for you. Take a few bites, and you will forget all about

your worries." Nancy suddenly felt ufortable upon seeing Melissa''s saddened look.

Even though they didn''t get along well, Nancy''s heart pained at seeing her cry. Moreover, Melissa had

changed a lottely. After all, she had learned her lessons and softened her attitude towards Sheryl.

Nancy put down the te and sat with Melissa. ncing at Melissa''s red eyes, she couldn''t help but

    ask, "Ma''am, are you alright?"

"No...nothing. Nancy, would you be kind enough to answer a question for me? Was I too cruel to Sheryl

in the past?" Melissa again burst into tears.

Nancy''s mind recalled the awful deeds Melissa had done to Sheryl. There was a part of her that

wanted to say yes, but she was unable to utter the word.

As Nancy fell into silence, Melissa believed she had already gotten the answer to her question.

"Ma''am, but don''t think about the past. It has already happened. There''s no point in thinking about it

over and over again. Sheryl isn''t going to me you for any of it," Nancy added when she saw

    Melissa''s pale face.

"You don''t have to say things to make me feel better. I treated you badly as well, didn''t I? You probably

resent me for it." Melissa regretted all her past behaviors.

"No, Ma''am. You should stop ming yourself for everything. If there is a culprit in this story, then it has

to be Le. She used you as a tool to get her job done. And we are all aware of it, so please, stop

being so hard on yourself." Nancy hurried to exin. She wanted Melissa toe out of this guilt trip.

Melissa felt a lot better after talking to Nancy.

"I''ll eat the foodter. Thank you for this. Now you should continue with your other work," Melissa said

with a smile stered on her face.

Nancy bowed to Melissa before she left the room.

In the hospital, everyone was whispering and talking about Melissa and Vicky.

The second Cassie stepped out of a patient''s ward, she caught sight of a few colleagues gossiping.

Curious to know what it was about, she walked up to them.

"What are you talking about?" Cassie tried to join the conversation.

"Cassie, you just missed such a drama!" One of the colleagues pulled Cassie, beaming at her.

"What happened? What makes you all so excited?" Cassie grinned back at her colleague.

"You missed a really exciting drama. Okay, so do you happen to know Charles Lu?" Obviously, the

colleague was quite new here, so she didn''t even know about the rtionship between Charles and

    Cassie.

Even though Cassie wasn''t rted to Charles in any way, anyone who knew Cassie was aware that

she was a good friend of Sheryl''s. As a consequence, she knew Sheryl''s ex-husband, Charles, quite

    well.

"Yes, but why do you ask?" Cassie was a bit embarrassed.

"Just now, his mother had a massive row with Vicky. It was so dramatic! Luckily, Sheryl had already

divorced him. Otherwise, it would have been even more dramatic!" The colleague was obviously

getting excited as she exined this.

Cassie had no choice but to feign a smile. Just in time, the head nurse walked towards her.

"Cassie,e here," the head nurse said aloud to Cassie, saving her from the embarrassing

    conversation.

"Yes! I''ming!" Cassie instantly felt relieved. ncing at her colleague, she said, "Sorry, but I''ll have

    to go now."

With a sigh, Cassie quickly escaped.

"Is there anything you want me to do?" Cassie asked.

"Not really. I wanted to ask you if they were talking about Charles." The head nurse seemed to be

aware of Cassie''s situation. It turned out she was here to save Cassie.

"Thank you so much!" Cassie put on a knowing smile and tugged at the head nurse''s arm.

''If it wasn''t for her, I would be suffering in silence now, '' Cassie thought, and a shiver ran down her

    spine.

Once Cassie was done with her work, she packed her stuff and got ready to leave. It happened that

Nick was free, so he came to pick Cassie up.

From afar, Nick noticed that Cassie didn''t seem to be quite herself. Worried, he got out of his car and

briskly walked to her. Stopping to look at her, he asked, "What''s wrong?"

Cassie had been looking at the ground as she walked. Nick''s sudden appearance left her a bit startled.

"Why are you here?" she asked.

"What? You don''t remember? I thought I told you over the phone that I will be picking you up. Is

something wrong?" Nick could have sworn that something awful had happened to Cassie at work.

Cassie shook her head as she didn''t want to talk about this matter concerning Charles. Moreover,

Sheryl was doing a lot better now. It was best to leave the matter.

"Cassie, you shouldn''t be lying to me. You know you can trust me with anything." Nick wore a steadfast

look, and he seemed hell-bent on getting Cassie to confide in him.

Cassie remained silent, whereas Nick continued to look at her with his intense gaze.

With a sigh, she finally gave up. She knew how determined Nick could be, so she had no choice but to

    blurt it all out.

"Are you saying that the woman I is after is in the hospital right now?" What Cassie had said caught

    him by surprise.

Cassie nodded her head, indifferently. She had anticipated this would be Nick''s reaction. "Yes, she is

exactly the person I is after. However, you have to promise me that you won''t utter a word about it in

    front of I!" she pleaded.
