Chapter 1774 Couldnt Wait

    Chapter 1774 Couldn''t Wait

"You can leave now. I know what to do." Burying his head back in his work, Charles didn''t even spare

    another look for David.

Seeing that Charles was now busy, David immediately left his office

As soon as the door opened, Le''s eyes lit up. She had been waiting outside of Charles'' office for a

few minutes now. Seeing Daviding out silently, she called out to him, "David, aren''t you going to

    congratte me?

"For what?" David replied, feeling irritated. He couldn''t help but furrow his brow while she beamed with

    a self-congrattory expression.

"Isn''t it obvious? I have done what you can''t. Weren''t you looking down on me before? Now, look at

me. I''m not worse than Sheryl. I can also be Charles'' most capable assistant. And, I''ll definitely be the

wife of the CEO!" she whispered in his ear after taking one step closer to David.

Le''s words took David by surprise. He was dumbfounded for a second. When he came back to his

senses, Le had moved away and was no longer beside him.

Waving back at David, Le smiled as she sat behind her desk, her meaningful expression irritating

    David even more.

He already knew this woman had her own agenda. Although he was eager to expose her, he was

waiting for the right time. He needed concrete evidence to convince Charles.

With Le in charge of all preparations, the banquet went smoothly.

Knowing that Charles disliked dinner parties, she found an excuse to leave with Charles shortly after it

    had started.

"Mr. Lu, why don''t you go ahead? I need to go back to thepany to finish working on a file," Le

immediately said to Charles when they were finally outside of the hotel.

Casting a brief look at Le, who was dressed in an evening gown, Charles offered, "Let me drive you

    back to thepany."

Considering Le''s contribution to tonight''s event, Charles felt that it was the right thing to do. It was

alreadyte, and with her dressed like that, it wouldn''t be safe for her to be roaming around the streets

at this hour. The truth was, he didn''t care about Le, but he didn''t want to see himself as being

    inhuman.

"Will you?" Deep inside, Le felt pleased, but she projected herself as being embarrassed instead.

Nodding, Charles didn''t say another word. After a moment, he motioned for Le to get into his car.

    Le got inside silently.

While in the car, Le started making small talk, mostly about thepany. Charles asionally

responded to her, but he didn''t initiate any discussion himself.

After Le had run out of things to say, the silence grew between them. Fortunately, thepany was

not far away from the hotel. Otherwise, it would have beenpletely awkward for Le.

"Thanks, Charles. Drive slowly and safely."

Getting out from the passenger seat, Le said with a smile as she looked back at Charles from the

open door. Not waiting for his response, she then closed the door. She waited until Charles drove

away. When his car was no longer in view, she walked towards the cafe across the street, instead of

    going upstairs.

The truth was, Le had nothing to do in the office, but Melissa had asked her for a favor, and she

couldn''t say no. Melissa wanted some private time alone with Charles to discuss something important.

So Le agreed that she would spend a few more hours outside and leave the house to Charles and

    Melissa.

Le had done so many things, hoping to receive Charles'' eptance along the way. It seemed that

Charles had finally changed his attitude towards her. But it wasn''t enough. She needed to spend more

time to get him topletely ept her.

However, she felt that it was taking too long. Her patience had already been tested. Now she would

    need to hasten her pace.

It was alreadyte when Charles arrived at the Dream Garden. The streets were already empty. The

full moon hung alone in the starless sky.

Stepping out of his car, Charles immediately felt the cold air on his cheeks. He wasn''t expecting

anyone to still be up at this time.

Entering the house, he found Melissa sitting on the couch, with a sad expression on her face.

Suddenly, Charles felt guilty because he had not been able to spend time with his mother, due to his

    being obsessed withpany affairs.

Forcing a smile, Charles walked towards his mother and asked, "Mom, why are you still up? It''s already

"Charles, you''re back." Melissa replied with a smile as if on cue, restraining all sadness that she was

    feeling.

"Yes, I just got back. Mom, is everything okay with you?" Charles asked again in a worried tone.

Shaking her head, Melissa sighed helplessly, giving in to Charles'' inquiries. "I''m okay. I went shopping

with Mrs. Hu today, and she told me about her trip to Mysia with her husband. It then reminded me

of my time with your father. It had been a very long time since west visited Mysia. Actually, we

haven''t really spent a lot of time together. But now, we can''t even go back to the old days..."

Melissa exined in between sobs, her eyes now getting red as if she was going to begin crying.

Hearing his mother''s words, Charles also became emotional. It really had been a long time.

"Mom, why did you remember all of a sudden?"

Charles felt terrible. He couldn''t allow himself to continue listening to his mother''s history. He wanted to

stay away from any sad things as much as possible.

"I''m not in the best health at the moment. As you know, anyone who is aging reminisces on ces full

of memories. I want to go back to the ces where your father and I had great memories..." Melissa

suddenly returned to her thoughts about her past, pletely ignoring Charles, who was with her now.

She talked to herself for a while, but she was interrupted by Charles, bringing her back to reality.

"Mom, it''ste. I think it will be better if you''ll go to bed now," Charles said. It was not because he

disliked her nagging, but because the things she talked about also touched his heart. He needed to

    change the topic altogether.

"Okay. I''ll go to bed now. You should too."

Reading the sadness on Charles'' face, Melissa knew that she had said enough for today. It was not

appropriate for her to continue. She finally stopped talking and allowed Charles to go upstairs and rest.

Everything went exactly as she had nned. A few minutes after Charles had left, Le came home.

"Aunt Melissa, how did it go?" Closing the door behind her, Le immediately went to sit beside Melissa

after she arrived. She was eager to know how her n turned out.

Melissa didn''t say a word. She only nodded her head with a beaming face.

This was enough for Le to understand that everything went smoothly, just as they expected. She took

    a deep breath, feeling relieved.

Knowing it was reallyte and feeling tired herself, Le said, "Aunt Melissa, let me help you go

upstairs. It''s time to go to bed."

Taking Melissa''s arm, Le told her the interesting things that had happened today as they walk up the

    stairs.

At the same time, Charles was still wide awake in his bedroom. For some reason, Melissa''s words had

affected him greatly, making him feel sad. He then secretly made up his mind that he had to do

    something for his mother.
