Chapter 1716 It Was Meant To Be
"I guess you are too busy to see me, right?" Melissa told Sheryl, sounding disappointed.
"Mom, let''s go to the meeting room." Sheryl hesitated but decided to call Melissa ''Mom''. After all, she
was still married to Charles. She didn''t want Melissa to me her for being impolite and rude.
But Melissa didn''t seem to hear her. Or perhaps, she ignored her intentionally.
"Mom, let''s go to the meeting room," Sheryl repeated, trying her best to keep her temper.
"Don''t call me ''Mom''. I am not your ''Mom''!" Melissa showed Sheryl an attitude, full of disappointment
and annoyance.
"Mrs. Lu, may I ask what brings you here?" Sheryl asked, furrowing her brows. She knew Melissa was
here to get her into trouble, but she couldn''t be mad at her. She would need to control herself as best
as she could.
"I came here for one purpose and one purpose alone. I''m here to ask you when you will divorce from
my son?" Melissa raised her voice and yelled at Sheryl, not caring about drawing attention from the
people in thepany.
Reacting quickly, Phoebe gestured for them to leave. The employees went back to work.
Melissa and Sheryl were now left alone to discuss without any more interruptions.
"Mrs. Lu, since you are Charles'' mother, I bet you know him well. It isn''t that I don''t want a divorce.
Instead, it is your son who is prolonging the process. Please, help me persuade him to sign the papers
as soon as possible once you return home." Sheryl was about to lose her patience. Charles was the
one who betrayed their marriage, but he was also the one who refused to get a divorce. Howe
Melissa med her for everything?
"You…"
"Mrs. Lu, do you have anything else to say? If there is nothing, please, leave now. I need to get back to
work." Sheryl pointed her hand to the door, gesturing Melissa to leave.
Although Phoebe had asked everybody else to leave, she had hidden herself in the corner. Upon
hearing that Sheryl was asking Melissa to leave, she quickly walked to Melissa and said, "Mrs. Lu, this
way."
"Sheryl, let''s wait and see. There is no way I will let Charles stay married to you!" Feeling very
ambitious before she went to the Cloud Advertising Company, Melissa was now pissed after she failed
to aplish anything. What''s worse, Melissa felt humiliated when Sheryl asked her to leave.
Like a kid throwing tantrums, Melissa stomped her feet and angrily left the office.
Phoebe watched her leave and disappear from sight. After Melissa left, Phoebe reminded the security
officer to not let anyone from the Lu family walk into thepany.
"What about Mr. Lu?" the security asked Phoebe in confusion.
"Isn''t he part of the family?" Rolling her eyes at the security officer, Phoebe left and went into the
elevator.
Walking back into the office, Phoebe found that everyone was working on theirputers silently. She
headed directly to Sheryl''s office.
Sheryl was busily checking out her files, when she heard someone walk in. Lifting up her head, she
saw Phoebe and felt relieved.
This is property ? of N?velDrama.Org.
"Is she gone?"
"Uh-huh. Rest assured, President Xia. She has already left," Phoebe said, handing Sheryl a ss of
water. She felt sorry for how her boss was treated earlier.
"Oh, ok. I am fine. You should get back to work now." Sheryl forced a smile, hoping to ease Phoebe''s
worry.
Phoebe could tell that Sheryl didn''t want to talk about it, so she didn''t force her. Nodding at her
instructions, she left her office.
Now Sheryl was left alone and the office fell into dead silence. She sighed in frustration, thinking that
today was overwhelming. Why did it feel like everything was getting worse?
On the other hand, Phoebe, sitting in front of her desk, was no longer in the mood to work. She felt
distracted and worried about Sheryl.
At this moment, I came back, obviously in a good mood. Wearing a big smile, she walked towards
Phoebe and asked, "Is Sheryl in the office?"
Lost in thought, Phoebe didn''t notice I approaching at all, so her sudden question scared her.
"Yes, President Zhao!"
Seeing Phoebe''s pale face, I thought it was because of her. So she teased Phoebe. "You''re so
timid."
"President Xia, Mrs. Lu was here a while ago," Phoebe reported.
"Mrs. Lu? You mean Charles'' mother?" I asked Phoebe anxiously, raising her voice.
Phoebe nodded in response, making I immediately rush into Sheryl''s office.
She didn''t knock on the door, as usual. I pushed the door open and barged in, making a loud sound
and catching Sheryl''s attention. Lifting her head, she looked to see what happened.
"My goodness, I! You''re a president of apany. Can''t you be more mature? Stop acting like a
child and being so dramatic," Sheryl said, pretending to be mad at I.
Ignoring Sheryl''sment, I walked towards Sheryl and grabbed her hands. "Did Melissa give you
a hard time?"
"Technically, I am still her daughter-inw. Why would she do that?"
But clearly, I didn''t buy that. Her expression became more serious when Sheryl finished exining.
I was speechless, so Sheryl continued, "Did Phoebe tell you about it? She likes to exaggerate
things. Don''t take her words seriously. Nothing happened, okay?"
"Stop lying to me. Your mother-inw never liked you. Why would she treat you nicely now, especially
under such circumstances?" I felt sorry that Sheryl still couldn''t talk openly about her feelings.
"Why would I lie to you? She stopped by to ask me to divorce with Charles as soon as possible. That''s
all." Sheryl tried to downy it, as if talking about someone else''s troubles.
But I didn''t feel relieved at all. Instead, she got more worried. "So what are you going to do?" she
asked.
"What else can I do, I? Just wait for the email from the court. I am getting a divorce, and no one can
stop me." Sheryl spread her hands as she answered.
I sighed speechlessly. She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but Sheryl interrupted her,
"I know what you want to say, I. Even if Ferry isn''t there to threaten me, my rtionship with Charles
can''t be saved. I am done with him. It isn''t meant to be. Don''t worry. I can handle it."
Sheryl tried her best to convince I with her determination.
I didn''t know what to say.
"Alright, get back to work. I have files to work on too!" Sheryl said, urging I to leave.
I didn''t know how to respond. After all, Sheryl kept assuring her that she was doing okay, although
I knew she was not. But what else could she do? She would just burden Sheryl more if she kept
bugging her. It would be better to leave her alone for the time being.
Everyone in thepany, especially Sheryl, was distracted by Melissa. No one could actually focus on
their work. It had been a long day.
As soon as she finished her work, Sheryl drove straight to the kindergarten. For the past few days,
Sheryl would pick the children up herself if she wasn''t too busy. Today she nned to pick up the kids
too.
