Chapter 1589 Too Much Water Drowns The Miller
Le understood what Melissa was trying to tell her.
Just seconds ago, Le had been on cloud nine. But Melissa shattered all of that in just a few words.
Le couldn''t help but feel hopeless and frustrated. Still, she didn''t say anything. Instead, she mustered
up a smile and tried her best tofort Melissa.
"Aunt Melissa, I get it. I''m just scared that if we keep prolonging this, it will get worse. We need to deal
with this as soon as possible," Le said. She was purposely exaggerating so that Melissa would panic.
"I have the same concern too. Sheryl''s only going to get more chances if we dy this further and that
wouldn''t help us at all. But I assure you that I''ll be keeping a close eye on that. Still, we can''t push
Charles too much. Too much water drowns the miller, you know. And you know how Charles still loves
Sheryl. After all, she is his wife," Melissa said, analyzing the situation so Le could understand.
"Uh-huh, you''re right, Aunt Melissa. It''s gettingte now though. You''d better get some rest." Le knew
that no matter what she said or did, Charles and Sheryl weren''t going to get a divorce anytime soon.
Besides, she had more important things to do. She didn''t want to waste any more of her time on
Melissa.
She was relieved that she was able to talk to Melissa.
But right now, she had something else to figure out. She needed to leave as soon as possible.
"Don''t worry, Le. I have your back. There''s no way Sheryl is evering back to the family," Melissa
assured Le confidently.
Le knew that Melissa''s word was good—she was Charles'' mother, after all. However, Sheryl wasn''t
very easy to deal with.
"Thank you, Aunt Melissa!" Le smiled at her.
After she left Melissa, Le quickened her pace as she walked back to her bedroom. Once there, she
took out her cell phone and started to dial a number.
"Did you kill Sheryl?" From what she heard from Charles earlier that day, it didn''t seem like anything
had happened to Sheryl. So when the man answered her call, she questioned him straight away. She
was right.
The man on the other end of the line lowered his voice. "I was so close. But Charles showed up out of
nowhere and saved Sheryl."
"Shit! You couldn''t do it, could you?" Le was furious as she yelled at the man. "Come meet me now.
I''ll see you at the regr ce."
Angered, Le threw her phone on the bed. She was seething inside. After a while, she picked up her
phone again and left the room. She didn''t exit the house until she was sure no one could see her.
Downtown, in a bar
Le had been waiting for hours. She kept checking her phone, angry and disappointed.
Suddenly, a man wearing a cap walked into the bar and came toward Le.
He was very careful. He looked around before sitting next to her, obviously making sure that no one
was watching them.
As soon as Le saw the man, she blurted out, "What happened? You promised me. You were so
confident. Why weren''t you able to do it? Besides, even if Charles showed up, couldn''t you have waited
for another chance toe back? I''m sure Charles left at some point."
Le couldn''t help but feel frustrated. Not only was Sheryl still happily married to Charles, but she was
also safe and sound.
The man shot a nce at Le.
She was staring him down too, waiting for an answer. Their eyes met.
Dickson was suddenly taken back to what happened in front of the Bureau of Civil Affairs.
Charles saved Sheryl by literally shielding her from the car with his body. Dickson had no problem
hitting Sheryl, but Charles was a different story. He wouldn''t dare do that. He was too scared.
Dickson knew who Charles was, so when he spotted the man, he immediately drove away.
"Say something!" Le said anxiously. Dickson only stared silently at the table.
Suddenly, he was brought back to reality. He kept his mind away from the bureau incident.
He didn''t want to exin to Le what had happened. Instead, he looked around carefully before
asking, "Why do you even want to kill that woman? Don''t you know it''s illegal? We could go to jail if we
get caught!"
Le sneered at that. She lowered her head and leaned back when she spoke. Her voice was cold. "So
what? As long as I get rid of Sheryl, everything will be worth it."
''This is insane!'' Dick thought to himself as he looked at Le. Her sharp eyes made him shiver.
"After what happened, I''m sure Charles is going to be extra careful now. He might even try to track me
down. I don''t think it''s going to be easy to try..."
"Shut up. You took the money, now do the job. Period. That''s it. End of discussion," Le snapped at
him.
Dickson couldn''t understand what Le''s motive was. "Fine, then I quit!"
He stood up, ready to leave.
"You…" Le was too angry toplete her sentence. She sat back and just let Dickson walk away.
"Coward!" She almost threw her ss at him.
"Hi, are you alone? May I join you?" A man suddenly walked over, putting his arm around Le.
"Fuck off!" Le snapped at the drunk man. She kicked him in the crotch, then sneered and walked out.
The following day, at the Cloud Advertising Company
Sheryl arrived at her office early.
Today, they were supposed to have amercial meeting with Lewis'' ZM Design Company. However,
Sheryl was surprised to see Lewis already there, as early as she was.
"Mr. Xu, you got here earlier than me!" she eximed.
Phoebe was in the tea room, so she had failed to inform Sheryl that Lewis was here already.
"I had some errands to run, so I just came here when I finished." Lewis stood up and greeted Sheryl.
Phoebe knocked on the door.
"Ms. Xia!" Phoebe nced at Lewis and nodded at him. She then walked to Sheryl''s desk and put
down a file before she said, "Ms. Xia, this is the file for the meeting this afternoon. Please check it!"
Lewis didn''t want to interrupt Sheryl. He sat quietly and just watched her.
Sheryl lowered her head and checked the file. "This is good. We''ll push through with the meeting as
nned. Make sure I don''t have an appointment tonight. I have to attend a parent-teacher meeting for
rk."
"Yes, Ms. Xia."
After Phoebe left, Sheryl discussed her ideas about the advertisement with Lewis. Soon, other people
started arriving and then it was time for the official meeting to begin.
Sheryl spent the entire morning going over the particrs with her and Lewis'' team. She had to make
sure that her efforts wouldn''t go to waste. Everything went smoothly. Soon, they were just ironing out

the details. Sheryl needed to shoot the video next.
After the meeting, Lewis walked over to Sheryl. He smiled as if hesitating, then asked, "Sheryl, it''s time
for lunch. Do you want to have it together?"
Sheryl checked her watch and saw that it was already around eleven.
