Chapter 1579 Hostess
"Didn''t I tell you this before? You don''t have to prepare a meal delivery for me every day. The food here
is pretty good. Aren''t you tired of constantly running back and forth between thepany and the
hospital?" Cassie felt guilty for causing Nick so much trouble. She didn''t want him to think of her as a
burden.
Nick, however, never felt encumbered. Instead, he enjoyed taking care of her. He pulled Cassie into his
arms and said, "Don''t worry about me, babe. I''m just happy that I can see you every day!"
Cassie felt a bit embarrassed by Nick''s nonchnt disy of affection in front of Cora, who was
chuckling and shaking her head at how adorable the couple looked.
"Well, I know that. You can let go of me now, Nick. I''m at work, remember?" Cassie pushed Nick away
gently.
Looking at Cassie with loving eyes, Nick held her hands, not wanting to part from her. He said, "Okay
then, I should get back to work too. Don''t forget to have lunch. I will pick you up at dinner time."
While Cassie''s attention was elsewhere, Nick kissed her on the cheek before leaving the hospital.
Seeing Nick and Cassie''s public disy of affection strengthened Cora''s resolve about her decision.
At the airport
"Mr. Lu, where are we heading? Thepany or the Dream Garden?" the assistant asked, right after
he picked up Charles at the exit.
Charles felt exhausted as soon as he got off the ne. The past few days hadn''t been kind on him.
The problem at the branch abroad took longer to settle than he had anticipated. And since he had been
away for so many days, there were a lot of pending files and contracts that needed to be signed,
waiting for him back at the office. He literally didn''t have the time to take rest.
"The Dream Garden." After giving it a thought, Charles told the assistant to drive him back home. He
didn''t know how long he would have to be at thepany once he got back to work, so he decided to
go home and grab some stuff first.
The airport wasn''t far away from the Dream Garden and before long, Charles arrived at his home.
In the master bedroom on the second floor, Nancy saw Charles packing his clothes in a hurry. She
hesitated, but finally gathered the courage to speak up. "Mr. Lu, are you going to thepany?"
Charles shot a nce at Nancy and nodded. "Yes. Is something wrong, Nancy?"
"Mrs. Lu is sick. She has been lying in bed since morning. If you are not in a hurry, could you go and
check up on her?" Nancy was already wondering whether she should have informed Charles about
this. Although she didn''t like Melissa, the woman was still Charles'' mother. Besides, Nancy was just a
servant in the Lu family. She knew she needed to mind her own business and that there were certain
things she shouldn''t meddle with.
"She''s sick? What happened?" Charles asked Nancy, furrowing his brows.
Nancy became nervous when he looked at her with puzzlement. She replied quickly, "Mr. Lu, I''m not
sure. I told Mrs. Lu to go to the hospital but she wouldn''t listen to me. She insisted on staying at home."
Nancy observed Charles'' facial expression anxiously as she reported this to him, worried of provoking
his ire.
Ever since Sheryl left the Dream Garden, Nancy had been thinking about leaving too. However, she
stayed back only at Sheryl''s request. After all, Melissa''s problem was only with Sheryl, not Nancy.
Melissa wouldn''t hold a grudge against Nancy because of Sheryl. Most importantly, Sheryl didn''t want
Nancy to lose her job because of her.
Charles stopped packing the moment he heard Nancy. He put down the files and walked over to
Melissa''s bedroom.
He knocked on the door once but Melissa didn''t answer. When he opened the door and walked in, he
immediately saw her.
Melissa''s face looked pale as shey there in bed, pletely motionless, like a person drained of life.
Charles'' eyes widened with concern for his mother. He walked over to her bed and said, "Mom, are you
okay?"
Melissa rolled her eyes at him, but she didn''t say anything in reply. However, the fact that Charles was
concerned about her ddened her heart. She tried to sit up, but Charles stopped her.
"Mom, please stay still. Tell me, what''s wrong?" Charles carefully helped Melissa sit up, getting more
and more worried about her.
Melissa coughed and said, "Charles, it''s good to see you back." She didn''t cut straight to the point
which could only mean that she was buying time.
When Charles furrowed his brows and remained silent, Melissa noticed his disappointment and
continued, "Nothing. It''s just I feel pain all over my body. I don''t know why. It just started on its own."
She almost burst into tears as she grumbled. Charles tried to coax her, "I will ask the family doctor to
"Are you leaving me again, Charles?" Melissa grabbed his hands anxiously. Charles wondered if his
mother was suffering from a high fever since she had never said such a thing to him before.
"Mom, I am telling the doctor toe over now," Charles told her patiently, which only made Melissa''s
grip on Charles tighter. She anxiously said, "No need to bother him. I''ve already been to the hospital
and the result wille out soon."
Charles finally gave up and decided to stay back and keep Melissapany.
"Okay, at least let me get you a ss of water." Charles felt sorry for his mother.
Melissa was moved by his thoughtfulness. She nodded at Charles and let go of him.
When Charles went downstairs, he saw Le, who had just returned home with a bag in her hand. He
casually ignored her and turned around as fast as he could.
"Charles, you''re back!" Le didn''t expect Charles to be home at this time. She put down her stuff
immediately and ran to Charles.
Le held his hand, as if she couldn''t see the disdain on his face. She smiled shyly and said, "Charles,
I''ve missed you."
"Let go of my hand!" Charles'' face turned gloomy and he shook off Le''s hands.
Le staggered back, almost falling to the floor. She wasn''t expecting Charles to react in this way.
Nancy stood in the corner, watching them quietly, relieved to see Charles'' attitude towards Le.

Charles turned around and walked up the stairs without saying anything to Le.
Le clenched her fists in anger as she stood still for a while, murmuring to herself, "Charles, sooner or
Then, as if nothing had happened, Le picked up her bag from the floor.
"Nancy, go prepare some food. Charles just got home. He must be hungry." Le walked over to her
calmly, pretending as though she hadn''t seen anything.
Nancy was impressed by Le''s ability to calmly ignore Charles'' utter disregard for her.
"Yes, Miss Zhang." Nancy enunciated the words "Miss Zhang," reminding Le of her ce in this
family.
Le was just a guest in the Lu family. And yet she carried herself as if she was the hostess of the
family ever since the day she moved in. Nancy couldn''t stand her at all.
Although Le was furious, she didn''t talk back. She watched Nancy walk to the kitchen and swore to
herself, "One day, I''ll make you call me Mrs. Lu."
When Nancy finished preparing the food, she went upstairs to ask Charles and the others toe
downstairs to have dinner. Charles and Le were sitting next to Melissa, forting her.
Nancy prayed in heart that Sheryl could be here with them.
