Chapter 1544 They Were All Bad
rk had no desire of giving up. He red at Melissa. Just when he was about to speak, he was
stopped by Sheryl.
"rk, don''t speak to your grandma in this manner. It''s extremely rude." Deep down, Sheryl knew that
rk was right. But at the same time, he was only a child. It wasn''t right for him to speak to an elderly

in this way. Moreover, if Sherly didn''t interfere, Melissa would make a big deal out of it.
"Mom, please don''t be angry. rk didn''t mean it," Sheryl added, trying to change the atmosphere. All
she wanted was to put a full stop to this matter.
But things didn''t work out the way Sheryl had hoped. Melissa wasn''t the sort of person who would give
up, even if it was for her grandson. She pointed at Sheryl furiously and blurted out, "Sheryl, look at your
child! I can see how well you have educated him!"
Seeing that Melissa wouldn''t give up, Sheryl retorted back, "That''s enough! Do you think it''s
appropriate to say such a thing? How will Charles react if hees to know about it?" At this crucial
moment, she had no choice but to y Charles card. Melissa was not a fool. She knew very well she
had to wrap it up. Thest thing she wanted was to displease her son. With resignation, she shut her
mouth up and didn''t continue.
Sheryl was used to enduring Melissa''s venomous words. But today, Melissa had really crossed the line.
rk was only a child. It was terrible how Melissa wouldn''t leave him either.
The situation became awkward. Everybody stopped talking. Sheryl shot a nce at Le, who seemed
to be smiling at this spectacle. But when Sheryl looked at her, she suddenly straightened her face.
Sheryl was furious but she didn''t want to make things worse. She then pulled her kids to her and said
to Melissa, "I''m taking them back home first."
"I clearly know you had no interest ining here. I don''t understand why you even bothered toe
here. And to make things worse, you brought the things I don''t like to eat..." Although Melissa muttered
in a low voice, Sheryl heard all she had said.
"Mom, those are your favorite food items. But if you insist on not liking them, you are free to throw them
away!" Sheryl turned to leave after she replied.
Melissa cursed furiously when she heard what Sheryl had said. Sheryl closed the door because she
didn''t want her kids to hear her grandmother''s words.
After they walked out of the ward, rk asked his mother, "Mom, you always teach me about honesty,
yet you didn''t permit me to speak my heart out. Why did you do that? And why did Grandma say such
things?"
rk looked at Sheryl, doubt and discontentment evident on his face.
When Sheryl heard rk''s question, sheughed all of sudden. He looked just like Charles with his
serious expression. She squatted down and patted rk on his head. She smiled and said, "She is
your grandmother, the mother of your father. I won''t allow you to get angry with her. Everything that
happened was due to a misunderstanding between me and her. But it will be fine. Don''t worry about
that, okay?"
Sheryl tried so hard to convince rk. He didn''t ask further question. But Shirley began to wail when
she looked at her mother and her brother.
"They are awful people! They bully Mom..." Shirley felt sad, and tears were gliding down her face.
"Don''t cry, Shirley. If you continue to cry, Mommy will be sad." rkforted his sister. He was
mature as a grown-up.
Sheryl nodded in agreement. She then wiped tears off her daughter''s face and pulled her into her arms.
"Mom, promise me. Never ever talk to Grandma again!"
"Okay. I won''t talk to her anymore. But you need to stop crying, okay?" Sheryl assured her daughter,
who was still a young girl. After getting an assurance, she stopped crying immediately.
They walked out of the hospital. Sheryl believed that Melissa put her in an awkward position on
purpose. She wanted Sheryl embarrassed in front of Le. Lost in thoughts, the fact she had to visit
Nick slipped out of her mind.
At the hospital
"Aunt Melissa, I don''t think Sheryl takes you seriously. I had suppressed the urge to fight with her. But
as you have seen, she didn''t want to talk to me at all. It must be so difficult for you to face such a
daughter-inw all day long," Le said, wanting to make the situation worse. She then took the apple
from Melissa. She wasn''t in a mood to have fruits. She sat there, sighing continuously.
Le''s words intensified Melissa''s fury. She wanted to tear Sheryl into pieces. Fury made her talk
louder.
"It''s so obvious, right? That wretched Sheryl has no value for me! If I wasn''t Charles''s mother, I believe
she would have killed me. The facade she puts up is to please Charles!" There was a look of terror as
she spoke. She then clenched her fist so tight that it hurt her hand.
"Ouch..." Melissa couldn''t help letting out a low growl. If it wasn''t for the pain, she would have
exploded. She med Sheryl for her sour mood.
"Aunt Melissa, are you okay?" Le checked Melissa''s hand carefully. She felt relieved when she found
that Melissa''s hand was lightly scratched by her fingernails.
"Excuse me..." Le called out. She pretended to be extremely worried even though she knew
Melissa''s injury was not serious.
Obviously, Melissa understood why Le called the nurse. She lifted her hand to stop her and sighed.
"It''s okay. Don''t call the nurse!"
"No. I think it''s better to clean the wound!" The nurse came in when she heard Le''s call. She
immediately cleaned the wound after she knew what had happened. After the nurse left, Melissa
continued speaking ill of Sheryl to Le. It seemed that it was the only interesting topic these two
women liked to talk about.
A smile crept on Le''s face. She was sure that she could go back to Lu family again.
At Lu family''s house
Sheryl went to work as soon as she dropped the kids home. But at work, there was nothing important
for Sheryl to deal with, hence she drove back home early.
Her mind reyed everything that had happened at the hospital. No matter how hard she tried, she
couldn''t shut her mind from thinking it over.
With a sigh, she slouched on the couch. Charles was tired from work. He had nned to visit his
mother but he gave up because he didn''t want to meet Le. But his mind couldn''t rest without knowing
how his mother was doing. He sent his assistant to see what was going on at the hospital. When he
was informed that everything was fine, he went back home.
As soon as he arrived at his house, he noticed something different on Sheryl''s face. But Charles
couldn''t quite put his finger on what was wrong. He felt worried and rushed to sit next to her. He
stretched his hand to pull her into his arms and asked gently, "What happened? Why do you look so
gloomy?"
Sheryl was lost in her thoughts and hadn''t noticed her husband had alreadye home. A little
startled, she almost opened her mouth to tell him what had happened at the hospital. But thinking it
through, she decided it was the best to remain silent about it.
After all, Melissa was his mother. There was nothing she could do to change that. Coming clean to him
would only have put him in a dilemma. Hence she bit her tongue and decided not to speak ill of his
mother. She feigned a smile and said, "Nothing. I just don''t feel well."
"What''s wrong? Why don''t we see a doctor?" Charles asked anxiously.
Sheryl kept shaking her head. She knew he would be more worried if she remained silent. So she
touched her belly and pouted, "I am experiencing difort in my stomach. It''s not a big deal!"
"You sure?"
"Yes!"
Charles believed her when he saw her determined look.
