Chapter 1522 The Wrong Man

    Chapter 1522 The Wrong Man

Nick shook his head and said, "The man who attacked me wasn''t the man I was looking for, Cassie. I

don''t know where it went wrong but I think I was going after the wrong guy."

"What? That doesn''t make any sense. If he was the wrong guy, why did he attack you? Did he say

    anything?" Cassie asked, also confused.

"That''s the weird part. I think he was the man I ran into before. I chased after him and he ran. He

stopped and turned around. Then I realized that I must have mistaken him for someone else. I stopped

and I was about to exin but then he took his knife and stabbed me. Then he ran away," Nick

    narrated.

"Yeah, that''s weird. If it had nothing to do with him, he could''ve asked you instead of running away,"

    Cassie inferred.

Nick nodded, "Yeah, he ran so fast when I was chasing after him. I think he''s here as a cover for the

man I''m really after. That''s the only way this makes sense."

"Did you see his face?" Cassie asked.

"Yeah, I did. Very clearly, " Nick replied.

"We have CCTV here so the cameras must have caught him. The police can identify him from there,"

    Cassie suggested.

"Yeah, maybe. I should have caught him, Cassie. I hate myself for not being able to. He was just in the

doctor''s room with this woman, but I chased after the wrong guy. It was ridiculous, Cassie. How could I

make such a stupid mistake? Now they''re getting away because of me. I''ll never have the chance to

see him again." Nick punched his bed, frustrated. After a few moments, his eyes lit up and he gripped

Cassie''s hand tightly. "Did you see a man wearing a mask and a pair of ck sunsses? With a

    woman?"

"A man wearing a mask and ck sunsses?" Cassie murmured, searching her mind.

"The woman was suffering from palpitation. She was too weak to walk by herself so they couldn''t run or

anything. They must have left the hospital pretending to be just ordinary patients. The man was

probably being very sweet to the woman. They probably look like husband and wife," Nick exined.

"Oh, I saw them!" Cassie shouted. The couple she saw suddenly came into her mind. She remembered

admiring them because the man was being so sweet to the woman. It must be them.

    She hurried told Nick this.

"Right! It was them!" Nick eximed, grinding his teeth.

"What can we do now? They''re long gone!" Cassie said. She was finding it pretty hard to believe that

she''d seen them with her own two eyes and she''d just let them pass by.

"We can''t do anything anymore. I can''t believe I just let them get away. When will I get this chance

again? I really wanted to do something for Sheryl," Nick said, coughing.

Cassie rubbed his back and helped him lie down. "Don''t be so hard on yourself, Nick. You''re still

recovering. Stop overthinking it. What''s done is done. I think we can still help Sheryl in some other way.

What you need to do now is rest."

Nick smiled at her and said, "I know. Thank you for taking care of me, Cassie. It seems that we''ve

spent most of our time together in the hospital. It''s always nice to be around you."

Cassie beamed at him. She did want to spend more time with him outside of the hospital. Since Nick

had mentioned, the hospital was where they first met too. When they started dating, they spent most of

their time here because she worked her and Nick needed to stay in the hospital too.

That was how it worked for the two of them and she truly believed that they were destined for one

    another.

Nick then closed his eyes to take a nap but soon after, they heard a knock on the door.

Cassie walked quietly to the door to answer it, afraid to wake up Nick.

It was Sheryling to visit Nick. Cassie let her in, closing the door behind them.

Nick opened his eyes when he heard the door open and close. "Sheryl? What are you doing here?" he

    asked, surprised.

"How are you doing, Nick? You scared me to death!" Sheryl said, worried. She had brought a basket of

fruits with her and ced it on a table.

"But how did you know, Sher?" Nick asked, curious.

"Sher called when you were still unconscious. I told her what happened and then she said she would

visit," Cassie exined as she helped him sit up.

"I''m so sorry for letting you do that, Nick. You shouldn''t have done that. You should have told me over

the phone so I could''ve told you what kind of man he is. Promise me you''ll never risk your life again like

    that!" Sheryl said.

"No, don''t say that. I wanted to do something for you, Sher. I needed to figure out what was going on. It

was a pity they got away. But at least I was able to get new information—I can confirm that it was that

same man who was in cahoots with that model who set you up," Nick said.

Sheryl sighed and sat on the chair beside his bed. "Thank you, Nick. Just leave it at that, okay? I

believe justice will soon be served. He''ll pay for what he''s done. It''ll only be a matter of time."

She then looked into Nick''s eyes and continued, "Never ever do that again. You need to be more

careful now because he''s seen your face. He knows who you are. I''ll ask Charles to send two

bodyguards here to protect you until that man is caught."

Nick smiled, embarrassed, "I don''t think that''s necessary, Sher. Think about it. They must be running

for their lives now. They wouldn''t be stupid enough to show up here and try to kill me. It wouldn''t make

    sense."

"We don''t know how these criminals think. Maybe, they''ll see you as a threat and they''ll think they need

you taken care of. We can''t risk it, Nick," Sheryl insisted.

Nick gave in and said, "Okay, okay. It''s up to you. If you think it''ll help, I''ll have bodyguards here."

"Hmm, that''s my boy." Sheryl smiled.

Cassie couldn''t help but admire how Nick was so close to Sheryl. Nick wasn''t the type to trust and

depend on just anyone. He''d lost both his mother and father when he was still young and he''d been

living alone since then. He''d gotten used to relying on no one else but himself.

Things changed when he met Sheryl and I. They cared about him and respected him, even Cassie

could feel it so she loved and respected them in return. They were more like a family now.

"Nick, you need to rest for the next few days and clear your mind. The more rest you get, the better

you''ll feel. Cassie, please keep an eye on him for me. If he doesn''t listen to me, call me and I''ll teach

him a lesson!" Sheryl said yfully.

Nick just looked at her, smiling back.

Men knew when to stop an argument with a woman, especially when there were two of them.

"The man was wearing a mask and ck sunsses, right? So you didn''t see his face clearly?" Sheryl

    asked.

"That''s true. I didn''t," Nick said, feeling guilty.

"He was with a woman, right? Did you see her face?" Sheryl asked again.

"Nope. She was hiding in his arms the entire time. Now that I think about it, she was purposely hiding

her face from me," Nick replied, rubbing his head. It seemed as if Nick really couldn''t do anything to

    help.

"That''s okay. I''ll take you to meet the officer in charge of Lancy''s case once you''re discharged. Maybe,

you can help them track him down," Sheryl said a momentter.

Nick nodded at her. It might be all he could do for her now.
