Chapter 1516 Mole

    Chapter 1516 Mole

Everybody felt strange. It was obvious to them that Lancy was murdered. If they didn''t get to the bottom

of what was going on, they knew that Charles wouldn''t spare them.

All of them were clearly well aware about the rtionship between Pearson and Charles. Therefore,

they knew that failing to find the murderer would get them into trouble.

"Get to work, now!" Vincentmanded. Everybody scurried back to work.

The following morning, Charles and his family were sitting around the table to have breakfast.

    Suddenly, his phone rang.

He immediately checked the caller ID before answering it and saw that it was Pearson. He then

nced at Sheryl subconsciously. Once he noticed that she was busy helping the kids and not paying

any attention to him, he answered the phone while walking to the window.

"Hi, Pearson! How''s it going?" Charles asked as soon as he answered the phone.

Pearson was in the middle of a dilemma. He was unsure about how to tell Charles about Lancy''s

death. After all, Charles had given him money to help save his wife. Pearson had promised to help

Charles find the culprit, yet no one expected for it to turn out like this.

However, Pearson decided to tell the truth. "Charles, you need to be prepared for what I''m about to tell

you. I have some bad news."

Pearson was an experienced policeman, which startled Charles even more. Since Pearson asked him

to be prepared, heplied and forced himself to remain calm.

After a few seconds, he said, "Okay, I''m ready. You can tell me now."

"Well, Lancy was killed in her cell early this morning. The policemen who were watching her were also

injured quite badly. They wereying on the floor when we discovered them this morning. We only

found them when we arrived at the office today." He then added, "Charles, I''m so sorry. It''s my fault.

The murderer wouldn''t have had the chance to take another life if I had paid more attention to the

    case."

Charles was shocked. He wasn''t expecting to hear this. He remained silent for a moment. ''What did

Pearson just say? Lancy was murdered? She was killed early this morning? What a coincidence!

It''s obviously that the man behind the curtain wanted her to die. He didn''t want anyone to recognize

    him.''

"Are there any other clues?" Charles asked.

Pearson shook his head. Once he realized that he was talking to Charles on the phone and not in

person, he immediately replied, "We checked all of the cameras, and all we could see was the man''s

eyes. We couldn''t hear him or see his face. I guess we won''t be able to recognize him even if he is

standing right in front of us."

Charles looked defeated. He felt sorry for Lancy. If he knew this would happen, he would have told

Pearson to send more policemen to protect Lancy after meeting with her yesterday.

"I see. Well, do whatever you can. Let me know if there''s anything else," said Charles.

Pearson continued apologizing to Charles as he knew that he hadn''t kept his promise. Charles

the investigation and find the murderer."

Charles hung up the phone. Walking back to the table, he struggled to hide the negative expression on

    his face.

Right then, Sheryl turned her head towards Charles. Looking at him, she noticed his gloomy face, and

asked in worry, "Charles, what''s wrong? What happened?"

Charles shook his head. He was wondering whether or not he should tell her about Lancy''s death.

Needless to say, he didn''t know how to do it. He decided to tell her because he knew that if he didn''t,

Sheryl would find out about it eventually. He took a look at Sheryl and nodded at the kids.

Noticing his signal, Sheryl understood immediately. After the kids finished their breakfast and picked up

their schoolbags, she instructed the driver to take them to school.

Once the kids left, Sheryl pulled Charles'' hand to sit down at the table. "Well? You can tell me now.

    What''s bothering you?"

"Sheryl, Lancy was found dead early this morning," Charles said as he looked at her face.

"What? Dead?" Sheryl was stunned. She couldn''t believe Charles''s words.

"Wait! Did shemit suicide or was she murdered?" Sheryl asked once she caught the keyword.

Charles found it difficult to repeat Pearson''s words.

"Why didn''t he deploy more policemen to protect her? Charles, did you ask him about what happened?

Did Pearson give you any more details? Tell me. I can''t believe she''s dead! I don''t think that she was

just killed. I don''t buy it," Sheryl exined. She was overwhelmed and immediately seized Charles''

hand. As a result, she overexerted strength, which could be seen by the prominent veins on her arms.

Charles lifted his hand to pat Sheryl on her back gently as a means tofort her. "That''s the thing. I

don''t think Pearson has any reason to lie to me. I know it''s not what you want to hear, but I already told

him to continue with the investigation. He will inform us the moment he has more information."

"Charles, the murderer must have known that Lancy was going to expose him. That''s why he killed her

immediately. He obviously couldn''t wait another day. But, think about it. How did he know that Lancy

was about to expose his identity? Who told him? We just met Lancy yesterday, and nobody but

Pearson and us knew about it. In fact, nobody else but the people in the police station knew about it.

So, how would the murderer know?" Sheryl doubted.

Charles nodded in agreement with his wife. Once he was brought to light about Lancy''s death, he was

doubting the ordeal too. But since Pearson was the deputy director, Charles didn''t want to embarrass

    him.

However, he agreed with Sheryl. "I''m doubting it too. I think there must be a spy among them."

"I agree. This mole must be undercover. It''s the police station, for God''s sake," Sheryl added.

"All we can do now is find both the murderer and the mole. Finding them both isn''t going to be easy.

Besides, I haven''t told Pearson about the fact that I''m doubting the murder yet. I''m not sure how to tell

    him," Charles said, feeling awkward.

Sheryl nodded. She was aware about the rtionship between Pearson and Charles. After a while, she

seemed to remember something and said, "I have an idea. Let''s not tell anyone. You can send

someone to monitor the police station. Since there is a mole, he is bound to slip up eventually."

"Honestly, I don''t think we have any other option. We won''t tell anyone about this. After all, thest

thing we want is more trouble. Good idea."

They looked at each other seriously. Finally, both of them could see hope in each other''s eyes.

    At the hospital

Cassie ran into a man she wasn''t expecting to meet after visiting the ward.

Once sheid eyes on him, she looked annoyed. Turning around, she was about to walk away.

"Cassie!" Jordan shouted as he followed and stopped her.

"What are you doing here?" Cassie lifted her head and stared at him sharply.
