Chapter 1451 Asking For Money
Le''s expression was a mix of sentiment and happiness, as she pretended to pour her heart out to
Melissa. To kindle Melissa''spassion, she deliberately made her lips to tremble and her voice
turned into sobs.
Melissa couldn''t help but sink into Le''s words. As she looked into her tear-filled eyes, Melissa started
to feel what Le was trying to make her feel. Just as Le had said, back when they were in prison,
she really had received much care and help from Le.
Those memories softened Melissa''s heart. Le''s red eyes made her feel sorry for her.
Clearly, Le was in trouble and desperately needed her help. Melissa tried, but failed to harden her
heart. When she had nned to meet Le, Melissa had made up her mind to do nothing but pay a
courtesy visit. As far as Melissa was concerned, this meeting was just a kind gesture. She had nned
to listen to her sobbing stories, but had no intention of helping Le with her issues. Helping Le at
such a moment was not wise. She didn''t want to go looking for trouble.
But after hearing Le''s words, Melissa was confused. Le had taken care of her in the past, and she
couldn''t just abandon her when she was in a dark ce. She felt the sudden need to help her. When
she saw that Melissa''s determination was wavering, Le knew that it was time to take full advantage.
Melissa''s visibly moved countenance brought muchfort to Le. Without wasting another second,
Le continued her bitter words. "Back in the days, we were in a terrible ce in our lives. But every
time I brought myself back up, and I could taste the trace of sweetness from those hard moments. I
enjoyed the process of how we supported and helped each other. Those memories will continue to stay
in my heart forever."
Melissa became more and more confused, and her mind was blurred, which made it impossible to see
Le''s real intentions. Eventually, Melissa''s heart softened and benevolence took over her.
"I won''t forget those times either. You helped me so much. Without you, it would have been really hard
for me to stay sane."
"Aunt Melissa, I know that it was rather inappropriate of me to contact you at such a time, but I have
run out of options. If I had any other choice, I wouldn''t have done such a stupid thing which would put
you in trouble. I turned to you for help because I believed in our friendship. Since we have been
through thick and thin together, I truly believe that you will not abandon me. And with your support, I
might be able to regain hope for my future."
Le put on a helpless, hopeless face.
"What happened to you? What problems are you facing right now? Just tell me, Le. Let''s find a
solution together."
Le was a little embarrassed to tell her the truth. After half a minute of struggling with her thoughts,
she loosened her bite on the lips and started to sob.
"Aunt Melissa, I am penniless right now. Yesterday, I didn''t even have enough money to pay for my
meal. That''s why I called you. I needed your help, but after seeing you here today, I have changed my
mind. Look how miserable my life has be. But I just realized that I shouldn''t have asked you to
Anyway, I am so happy that I could see you onest time. I have nothing else to hold on to in this world
anyway..."
Melissa was startled by her suicidal words. She could see how pessimistic Le was at the moment
and was concerned for her life now. In the end, she gave up doubting her and chose to trust Le''s
words.
As she stared at Le''s haggard face, Melissa felt sorry for her old friend. Back in prison, Melissa was
supported and cared for by Le. She would have been too weak to endure the prison life without
Le''spany.
And now her friend was stuck in a miserable situation, she felt the need to help Le out in return for
her past help. ''Le was my closest friend. I should not be ruthless to her at a time like this. I will help
her this onest time, and then we will be even.
If everything goes well with her, we won''t have to meet again in the future. And I will not owe her
anything after this.''
After contemting for a while, Melissa put her hand into her handbag. She remembered that she had
a debit card with her. Melissa intended to give it to Le. There wasn''t much left in the card, but for
Le, it would be more than enough.
Melissa didn''t have any financial freedom anymore, unlike she used to. She had been staying inside
Dream Garden and her personal expenses were totally dependent on Charles. Lately, Charles had
tightened his grip on Melissa''s expenditure. She couldn''t spend money as much as she wished. If it
weren''t for her savings which had been able to support her extravagant lifestyle, an argument
regarding money between her and Charles would have been inevitable.
On the past few asions, Melissa had cautiously told Charles that she wanted to be a shareholder in
Shining Company. She figured that with a small number of shares, she could maintain herfortable
and carefree life. However, she hadn''t expected that Charles wouldpletely ignore her proposal. As
a result, it left a shadow of embarrassment in her heart, and it haunted her every time she met and
talked to Charles.
Melissa ced the card on the table and slowly slid it towards Le. She said, "Le, this is a debit
card. There is enough money in it to support your living. Take it! Everyone faces difficulties in theirThis material belongs to N?velDrama.Org.
lifetime. It''s inescapable. You just need to be brave and survive yours. You are a strong girl with much
perseverance, so I am convinced that you will get through this."
Realizing that Melissa wasforting her with all her heart, Le reacted quickly and feigned a moved
and teary expression. She grabbed Melissa''s hand tightly.
Melissa felt Le''s hands shaking and grew more sympathetic towards her. She promptly patted the
back of Le''s hand with her free hand, trying to calm her down.
"Aunt Melissa, I can''t tell you how grateful I am. You are always so nice to me. Sometimes, I see you as
my mother…"
Le choked on her words, as her body was racked with sobs. It seemed hard for her to express
herself and she nearly failed toplete her sentence.
"But I can''t take this card. You are probably in need of money too. I don''t want to cause you any
trouble," Le refused, frantically shaking her head. She pushed back the card towards Melissa, as if
she wasn''t attracted by the card at all.
"Le, stop it! Just take the card and resolve your problems. That''s all I want right now. It''s the least I
can do for you," Melissa pressed Le''s hand and urged in a gentle tone.
Le still showed her absolute rejection towards Melissa''s good intention. Le was nning to refuse
the card until Melissa had no suspicion whatsoever about her intentions.
Now that Melissa had made up her mind to help Le, she couldn''t allow her to refuse. She put on a
long face and red at Le angrily as she said, "Le, don''t you see me as your mother? Then, why
are you acting like I am a stranger to you? Considering our close rtionship, you don''t have to worry
about troubling me. I am willing to give you my money to support you. So, take this card. End of story!"
Without waiting for Le''s reply, Melissa quickly picked up the card and stuffed it into Le''s pocket.
Forcing a smile, Le gave up declining her offer atst.
"Aunt Melissa, I will pay you back! I promise!" Le swore as she looked into Melissa''s eyes with a firm
look. However, Melissa didn''t take her words seriously.
In fact, she wasn''t expecting to get it back. She knew Le so well. Le was the kind of woman who
only knew how to take more, yet give so very little.
"That''s not necessary! All I hope is that you can handle your current difficulties with this card. We can
think of repaymentter," Melissa said with a faint smile.
Tears rolled down Le''s cheeks as she nodded and thanked Melissa.
