Chapter 1447 You Owe Me
Nick was in a dilemma. What if something happened to Lily if he left her alone? He was also worried
that she might be sick because she had passed out all of a sudden.
And Cassie had already run away. Even if he were to chase after her, he probably wouldn''t be able to
catch up to her.
Nick didn''t have much time to think it through. He pulled Lily into his arms andy her on the sofa
gently.
Inside the rental house, Le sat on her worn-out bed, wondering what she should do next. After what
had happened the other night, Le couldn''t dare go back to work in the nightclub. On one hand, she
was worried that the mysterious man would show up again. On the other hand, she was afraid that the
Since she had lost her job, Le had to spend thest few days in her shabby old rental house.
Sunrays didn''t reach her room, and the ce smelled musty. Each second inside the room was torture
for her.
But no job meant no money. What was left in Le''s bank ount was the little amount Melissa had
given her. But sooner orter that money would be depleted and Le wouldn''t have anything left. A
few unemployed dayster, Le had used up all that money.
Standing in front of the ATM, Le stared nkly at her zero bnce ount. She had no idea what to
do next. How was she supposed to live without any money?
Le was grumpy and she stood in front of the ATM for quite a while, absent-minded. She realized that
she was at the end of her rope.
She took back her credit card from the machine, her hands shaking. At that moment, she felt weighed
down by her fate. She never anticipated that her life would turn into such a mess. If she couldn''t figure
out a way to get some money soon, she would have to tighten her belt and starve.
But what could she do to get out of this?
She couldn''t go back to the nightclub. Her safety was at risk there, after all. And she could not find
another job.
The worst thing she could do right now was ask Melissa for money. But then she thought, ''Why not? I
could demand money from her! I get the goods on Melissa. No matter how reluctant she is, she has to
give me money.''
That was the only solution Le could think of. She sighed.
''Melissa, you owe me, '' Le thought to herself. The more she thought about the idea, the more
determined she became to call Melissa.
Le took out her phone at once and dialed Melissa''s number.
The phone rang and rang, but no one answered.
But Le was not willing to give up. She kept calling because she knew that Melissa kept her phone on
her self at all times. There was no way that Melissa would miss her call. The only reasonable
exnation was that Melissa was deliberately avoiding her.
And just as Le had expected, when she called her again, Melissa hung up on her.
Le was irritated beyond belief. Her face turned red with anger and a fire raged in her eyes. Le
didn''t think that Melissa would be so heartless. This is property ? of N?velDrama.Org.
She shook and almost lost control and threw her cell phone. But she managed to calm herself down,
considering that she had no money to buy a new phone.
''Ungrateful bitch!'' she scorned. If she couldn''t live a decent life, neither should Melissa. Le was
thinking about telling Charles the truth about Melissa being one of the kidnappers. Since Melissa was
so cold-hearted, there was no need for Le to help her keep her dirty secret.
But as soon as the idea struck her, Le realized that Melissa was the only person she could count on
now. If she betrayed Melissa, there would be absolutely no hope for her.
After giving it a thought, Le decided to send her a message. She quickly typed a few sentences and
clicked on the send button.
Nick kept calling Lily''s name, trying to wake her up. But no matter how many times he tried, Lily didn''t
respond.
Nick felt uneasy. He ran to his study and grabbed his cell phone to call an ambnce.
"Nick, what are you doing?"
Nick almost dropped his phone, startled by Lily''s low voice.
He turned around and saw her standing behind him. There was something strange about her.
"Lily, are you okay?" Nick asked.
Lily nodded and burst intoughter. "I''m fine. I passed out because I was just hungry. Do you have
anything to eat?"
Nick was surprised that she had recovered so soon. Unaware of his own actions, he pointed towards
the fridge and said, "I have some bread and milk."
"Great! Thank you." Lily walked towards the kitchen and opened the fridge. She grabbed the bottle of
milk and a slice of bread.
Nick stared at Lily, pletely at a loss, not knowing what was happening. He watched her eat the
bread with the milk.
Lily ignored his gaze on her. She had acted so hard earlier that she hadpletely forgotten about
dinner. Now that she had finished her mission, she had time to fill her stomach. After she wolfed down
the food, Lily raised her head and said, "I''m full. Thank you, Nick." Lily shook the crumbs off her hand
and wiped her mouth with a tissue.
Her behavior confused Nick.
She was upset and was begging him to let her stay only a few minutes back. The next thing he knew,
she was smiling brightly at him, as if she had forgotten all about her problems.
''What is happening?'' Nick wondered. Lily, however, had already grabbed her handbag and was walking
towards the gate.
"Bye, Nick." Lily waved her hand at him, ready to leave.
"Wait!" Nick ran to her. When Lily looked at him in surprise, he asked anxiously, "Do you have a ce
to stay?"
Lily was moved by his words. His girlfriend had misunderstood him and was mad at him. He should
have gone after her. Why was he here, caring for another woman?
Suddenly, she was filled with regret.
She would never have done such a thing to hurt Nick if she hadn''t been in need of money.
But what was done could not be undone. And she had hurt him. There was no use crying over spilt
milk.
She winked at him and teased, "Nick, are you asking me to stay?"
Nick felt embarrassed. He offered, "Let me at least find you a hotel so that you don''t have to sleep out
on the streets."
