I barreled through the trees on four paws, the wind stroked my long silky fur. My nose detected every scent; I could hear sounds all around me, even though it was quieter than usual, but I thought nothing of the fact.


    “Ah, I love our runs together,” my wolf, Maxine, sighed happily in my head.


    “Yeah, me too,” I thought back.


    Fortunatly, whenever I shifted, neither my clothes nor my belongings got destroyed.


    I was much bigger than the average wolf and I had silver fur with black tipped ears and paws.


    Honestly, I thought I was beautiful.


    But I haven‘t always been a werewolf. My thirteenth birthday was when I first shifted.


    I was sitting on the sidewalk eating ice cream in front of my house. It was a sunny, hot day but that didn‘t keep anyone inside.     I was just getting up to go inside when all of a sudden, I felt sharp pains in my head. Like sharp needles stabbing my brain. I could barely see as I tried to stumbled into my house.


    Instead, when the pain lessened, I found myself about twenty feet into the forest behind my home. My head still throbbed but it had only gotten worse.


    My mouth suddenly started throbbing and my hands started to sting at my fingertips. And then my stomach started to hurt.


    That hurt the worst.


    My stomach pains had me kneeling on the floor. The pain was so intense that I almost screamed. But I didn’t.


    I hadn‘t noticed the changes until it was too late. My eyes were shut tight, my mouth closed in a grimace.


    Then the pain stopped.


    I opened my eyes only to be so shocked that I screwed them shut again.


    Paws.


    Where my hands should have been, paws lied in their place.
