Early the next morning, Zhou Chao rose from bed promptly.
“Brother Chao, are we heading back today?” Jiang Li, lying on her side, propped up her head with her right hand, watching as Zhou Chao rummaged through the suitcase for clothes.
“Not today. I n to visit the Secretary in Fuzhou.”
Jiang Li’s interest piqued. She sat up, using a pillow to support her back against the bed frame.
“What’s the purpose of your visit? You’re not thinking about investing again, are you?” she teased, knowing Zhou Chao’s intentions.
“Wealth shouldn’t distance one from home, as it’s like wearing fine clothes at night,” he remarked. “After all, Fuzhou is my hometown, and now that I have the means, why not bring about some changes there?”
Zhou Chao found a more formal outfit from the suitcase and donned it.
“My dear husband, I always knew you were the best!” Jiang Li praised, sending a few heart emojis his way.
“Haha, at least you didn’t say I’m the fattest. I’ll order some food online for when I’m done with my work. When I return, I’ll make something delicious for you,” Zhou Chao said yfully, pinching Jiang Li’s nose.
Gently swatting away his yful hand, Jiang Li huffed, “Fine, fine. Just go ande back soon!”
Zhou Chao nodded slightly, kissed Jiang Li’s forehead, and then left the room, closing the bedroom door behind him.
Outside, he took the elevator down to the garage, where several bodyguards awaited by two Mercedes, engaged in idle chatter.
“It’s unbelievable that the boss actually came from this small city. He’s built our entire business empire from scratch.”
“Yeah, the boss is even younger than me by a few months. Sigh, some people are just born lucky!”
“I heard the boss is a genius investor. They say his initial capital came from stock market earnings, but who knows if that’s true.”
The lead guard, Xiao Yang, nced at the others before sighing and saying, “Even if it’s true, what’s the use? Do you really want to invest your meager savings in the stock market? Let’s just go with the flow. It’s good enough for us to live our lives in peace.”
The others sighed in agreement. “That’s just how life is!”
“What were you all discussing? Why do you all have such resigned expressions? Don’t tell me you’re regrettinging here from the hotel!” Zhou Chao suddenly appeared behind them, startling them.
Hearing this, the four turned around, looking somewhat apprehensive as they faced Zhou Chao. Eventually, Xiao Yang, the lead guard, gathered the courage to speak up.
“Boss, we were just discussing whether we can get rich in this lifetime!”
Zhou Chao had overheard their conversation earlier and understood their concerns. His remarks were meant to jolt them awake; after all, as bodyguards, they should always be vignt and security-conscious.
He had walked right behind them, and they still hadn’t noticed. If there were to be any sudden incidents, how could Zhou Chao trust his safety to them?
He needed to give them a little scare to keep them on their toes.
Zhou Chao nodded slightly. “Did you take care of what I asked you tost night?”
Upon returning homest night, Zhou Chao instructed Xiao Yang to contact the State Secretary in Fuzhou. After all, the person was also on vacation during the National Day holiday, and Zhou Chao didn’t have the time to spend five or six days in Fuzhou.
“Boss, I’ve already arranged the meeting with the other party!”
“Oh~ They trust you that much?” Zhou Chao quirked an eyebrow, looking at Xiao Yang.
Xiao Yang scratched his head sheepishly. “At first, they thought I was a scammer and hung up on me after a few words. But after I made a couple more calls, they probably investigated a bit and believed me.”
“Okay, let’s go. We shouldn’t keep the State Secretary waiting!” Zhou Chao said, hopping into the car.
Once Zhou Chao was in the car, he waved his hand, signaling the three to depart.
“Boss, here are the documents for that person. Please take a look!” Xiao Yang, sitting in the passenger seat, handed Zhou Chao a two or three-page document.
Taking the file, Zhou Chao lowered his head to review it.
“Huh, didn’t expect this person to be quite young!”
Zhou Chao quickly scanned through the documents. Although not very detailed, Zhou Chao could tell that the State Secretary had quite a rich experience.
Meanwhile, in an office on the third floor of the office building in thepound, sat three or four middle-aged men. The man seated at the main desk was none other than Wang Rui, the State Secretary in Fuzhou, whose information Zhou Chao had just reviewed.
“Lao Wang, why did you call us here in such a hurry? Is something wrong?” Niu Xin, a high-ranking official in Fuzhou, furrowed his brows. They had just started their vacation and were nning to go fishing to rx, but were called in by Wang Rui.
Putting down his teacup, Wang Rui smiled as he looked at the others before slowly speaking, “I wouldn’t have called you here if it wasn’t important.
Last night, I received a call from someone iming to be from the Dragonfly Group, saying their boss wanted to meet with us. At first, I thought it was a scam.
But then I thought about it. Someone who knows my private number must be someone significant. So, I checked online and found out that there is indeed such argepany, with hundreds of subsidiaries, likely worth at least a few hundred billion US dors.”
“What!” The others eximed simultaneously, wearing expressions of disbelief.
It was hard to believe that even in the entire Fuzhou, there were only two or threepanies that could rival the Dragonfly Group..
