Chapter 299
Along the way, Chet dutifully exined the surroundings while Alicia listened. She didn''t concentrate on what he was saying as she had no intention
of staying here for long. On the contrary, she mentally cursed Frederick. She, therefore, acted calm on the surface.
"Oh"
Just as she replied, the doors of the lift opened. She looked up and the words "Floor 83" emzoned next to "International Affairs Department” came
into view.
Walking out through the door, Alicia seemed to remember something before she said in a low voice, "Thanks!"
"My pleasure.”
A smile was returned before Chet guided her toward the office hall off to the side. As soon as they entered, a mor was noted in the hall, followed by
various unsolicited greetings.
"Mr. Reynes..."
"Good day, Mr. Reynes!"
"Mmm!" Nodding in response, Chet headed straight for the office inside. Following behind, Alicia couldn''t help but roll her eyes.
Chet really resembled someone. He was probably Frederick''s duplicate! However, that showed how much influence Chet had in thepany as well.
"Who is she? Why is she behind Mr. Reynes?"
"She''s quite pretty! She''s not a new assistant or a colleague, is she?"
"No way. Whenever thepany recruits someone, there are several rounds of interviews. How can we not have heard anything?"
"Right? What''s more, a beautiful woman is the first taboo of thepany. She should have passed five or six interviews to get in. If she didn''t pass
any interviews, how could she enter thepany straight away?"
Just then, various curious, ogling, and whispering discussions came Alicia''s way. Despite all the mutterings behind her, she wasrgely deaf to them.
Sweeping around therge, neatly organized office with its mountains of paperwork, she felt nothing but an indescribable pressure.
Just as she reached the office door, a calmlooking, slightly older but beautiful woman stepped out. "Mr. Reynes, it''s a pleasure to wee you here.
Why did you have toe all the way here when you could have just called?”
"Miss Giselle, I''m just carrying out my duty! This is our new trantor, Alicia nchard, who specializes in Russian. For the time being. she will be
working in the International Affairs Department to familiarize herself with thepany''s businesses and processes. Later, when the Russian
Department is established, there might be another arrangement for her. Miss Giselle, you will be in charge of her. From now on, she will be part of
your team.”
With a gesture from Chet, Alicia understood what he meant and greeted with a smile, "Miss Giselle, nice to meet you!"
Clearly taken aback, Giselle quickly responded and smiled broadly. "Mr. Reynes, you''ve sent us great help. I''ll make sure she''s well trained.”
Waving her hand, she then ordered.
"Lynn, please take Miss nchard to her preferred seat. Then, go to the office andplete the onboarding process and pick up some office
supplies."
With Alicia out of the way, Giselle then tried to find out, "Mr. Reynes, what is Miss nchard''s... status?"
She was the manager of the International Affairs Department. The recruitment process was the same for all departments and she was well aware of
that. The number of employees in each department was nned and regted. Unless there was a change in her department or a major increase in
business, she was not eligible to apply to the Human Resources Department for recruitment. Once her listed requirements were approved, HR would
send out a notification. The submitted resumes were then screened by both HR and her. Finally, the interviewers would include her, the Head of
Personnel, and a random hearing supervisor. Interviewees were only eligible to ept the job if they had passed all the interviews. Not to mention,
after the probationary period, the big boss would have to sign off the new employee before he or she could be a regr employee
Alicia obviously didn''t go through any screening. This was an unprecedented situationOwned by N?velDrama.Org.
Although there were specially-
handled employees at Soaver
International: most of them were
managerrent people or technical
peop eth special talents and were
well-knbwn. While tranting was a
technical job, Giselle''s department
had no shortage of people-like her.
Alicia''s being shoved int&"her
department was baffling. Content

"What status? What do you mean by this, Miss Giselle?"
Raising his eyes. Chet could only pretend to be confused. If anyone knew that the president had brought his wife into thepany. things would blow
up!
Locking at his serious lock, Giselle was confused. Did she overthink?
"What I mean is... Is she not very good at English and she should learn more first?"
The implication was that she would not be allowed to work and would be given an idle job in the name of learning.
Chet didn''t dare to make the decision. Frederick had ordered him to ce Alicia in the International Affairs Department to help her settle down as
quickly as possible. Perhaps Frederick had meant that she should be given a foothold here.
Chet didn''t know anything about the specifics of the situation. After a moment''s contemtion, he said, "Once she''s on your staff, she''s on your
payroll. Don''t you know how to put her to work, Miss Giselle?"
In fact, Chet had only passed the buck to her. But having heard that, Giselle took it as a sign that Alicia was to be treated like a normal employee.
With that in mind, she stood up straight.
"Yes, I understand what needs to be done.”
Soaver International never kept idle people. Even the probationary period and employee appraisals were just as strict. Since Alicia was to be treated
normally, it didn''t matter if she could pass the probationary period.
The two of them then chatted for a while longer. Thepany was incredibly efficient as Alicia was already back, holding a document box and some
office supplies.
Before leaving, Chet went to check out the seat she had chosen. She was sitting in the corner, with the window behind her and a colleague on one
side of the partition. The aisle she was in wasrgely empty. It was quite quiet.
After a nce, he said, "Miss nchard, why don''t you sit at the opposite side? Theputers there should be better equipped.”
There were four seats in each
cubicle, along with a deskputer.
Perhaps the first two seats had been
empty for toateng and had
apparently been used for public
records. The seats were covered ~~
with doctiments. Meanwhile, the
other fwo seats at the back were
alsoequipped withputers.
AltRough all the seats were “actually
the same, Chet noticed that one seat
was closer to thendline. With a
slight turn of the chair, Alicia''s hand
should be able to reach it. That
would make things easier for her, he
thought. In the meantime, he made
a note of the extension number
8032 that was affixed to the
landline.
Alicia didn''t care about any of this. She just picked the nearest seat to her. When he said it would be good to sit opposite, she moved her things over.
Once she was settled, Chet went back to his office
After Alicia briefly tidied up, everyone in the r rose following a few ps from Giselle
"Everyone, this is our new beautiful colleague, Miss Alicia nchard. Let''s get to know each other!"
Alicia felt good as she exchanged pleasantries and greetings. People from bigpanies were quite well-mannered!
That thought didn''tst long before the mood changed. Suddenly, a shrill voice reached her.
"What countrydid you study in?
Which university did you graduate
from? Are you used to American or~
British ERglish? Didyoudoa — <
