Chapter 212
A faint sadness shed across Alicia''s eyes as she thought of the past. However, upon lifting her
head, her eyes were shining with a smile blooming on her face.
"Hubby, you should eat some eggs. It''s good for your body! An egg a day keeps the doctor away!"
A simple breakfast ended amidst theirughter. As usual, Alicia kept away all the dishes away and
had them washed. For her, it was only a simple matter as she had been doing chores for years.
Hence, even if there were more dishes for her to wash, she would not feel being treated unfairly at
all.
On the other hand, Frederick''s heart ached as he looked at Alicia. She was too thoughtful and
considerate for her own good, always handling everything on her own, without anyone knowing.
God knew how many times she had been bullied and taken advantage of like this.
"From now on, just let our servant wash the dishes! I''ll have Ms. McGowan move over in these two
days."
"It''s fine, there''s not much to wash anyway. I can get it done in a couple of minutes! Besides, I''m
kind of a clean freak myself too. I won''t feel assured that the dishes washed by other people are
clean. I''ll end up washing it again anyway, heh!"
Eventually, all the dishes were ced on the disinfection rack as they bantered. Alicia washed her
hands and continued, "I like our life now with no one disturbing... just the two of us."
It was rare that both of them came back home for meals together. It was not difficult for Alicia to
prepare meals for two either. The most important thing was that she did not want anyone to
supervise her. She was used to doing things by herself over the years. It made her felt
aplished and free.
The servants maye over once in a while to clean up the rooms and do theundry, helping her
with part of the household chores. She wasfortable with this arrangement.
Coincidentally, Frederick too, was ustomed to loneliness and disliked being disturbed.
He smiled and agreed with Alicia. He also felt happy and cozy with a life like this.
After the meal, they returned to their bedroom. Frederick answered two calls while Alicia took two
more pills to make sure the fever waspletely gone. She then took a cotton ball and applied the
ointment.
"Okay, email the contract to meter," Frederick said.
"There''s no rush! We''ll talk about it next week."
Alicia turned her head and looked at the man who was standing straight and tall. He had a lean
figure and broad shoulders. He looked like a god as the golden sun shone on him, making him look
strong and steady, inexplicably reassuring. She was visibly smitten by his looks but other thoughts
popped up in her mind.
He would not be staying here to look after her this day too, would he? She was indeed delighted if
he would but she had two pending trantion tasks!
After all, she was impatient when it came to working and she could not stand not doing anything all
day.
Her injuries were mild and the scabs had formed after she applied the ointment. She had forgotten
about the pain once she had the slightest recovery. She figured that since she no longer felt
difort, she should not beying around doing nothing.
Her thinking was such that a second of doing nothing was a second of life wasted. She could not
afford to waste any moment in her life!
Upon turning around, Frederick saw her sinking into the sofa with her head up in a daze. He
stepped forward and rubbed her hair.
"What are you thinking about? You seem to be carried away."
He sat down, still replying to messages on his phone.
At that moment, Alicia came back to her senses. Her eyes rolled around in thought and started
glinting with ideas.
"Hubby, you must be really busy, right?"
His hands paused and he looked up at her for a couple of seconds.
He could gauge her thoughts as they had been together for quite a while. As soon as she opened
her mouth, her tone gave her ns away to him.
Moreover, she was staring at him earnestly, her hands fidgeting. This was a move she would do
when she felt strung out.
Frederick lowered his head and continued to deal with his messages. Then, he said, "Not really, I''m
still fine."
"So... do you have any other ns for today?" She actually wanted to know if he was going out.
He would not just sit at home apanying her, would he? She would be so restless!
Putting down his phone, he asked, "Why? Are you nning to earn some money again?"
She pursed her lips like a child who was caught red-handed for stealing candy. She started to fidget
with her fingers.
Frederick then patted on his thigh, gesturing to her. She bounced off the sofa and went over to sit
on hisp while wrapping her arms around his neck.
"What are you nning this time?" He looked at her, sitting obediently in his arms. He pped her
on the waist lightly.
"Nothing... It’s just that there are two drafts that I haven''t handed in yet!" She was embarrassed to
tell him the truth. This was a private job that she took, therefore she had to do it in her free time.
Her serious work attitude was one of the traits that Frederick admired and liked about her.
This was especially when he saw her in a hurry, rushing to finish her work. She would exude
immense vigor and appeared full of life, making people around her feel energized too.
This was the opposite of Danica.

He felt positivity when he was with Alicia as if the sun had shone upon him. As for Danica, she
always made him feel gloomy and sad as if the world was gray. Sometimes, he would sympathize
with her but it was too depressive and ufortable for him!
The life one would live depended on the people one chose to spend it with.
At this moment, Frederick understood. Every moment with Alicia made him feel genuine emotions
and it was so exciting that time flew by. In the past, he always felt that time was running slow as if
days wore off like years.
"You can work but don''t push yourself too hard," he said.
Alicia''s eyes sparkled. She excitedly gave a peck on his cheek and replied, "Okay! Hubby, you''re
the most considerate person I know!"
He was speechless as this was his first time seeing someone who was so happy to be doing work.
She was about to get up and head to work when he pulled her back. "What''s the hurry? I''m not
done talking!"
There was more? Alicia thought.
After a pause, his hand that was on herp, lifted the corners of her clothes the next second. Her
immediate reaction from the startle was to grab his hand.
"Hubby?"
The sun was still up and he wanted to do it already? They just did it the night before!
Frederick''s judging, cold eyes narrowed at her as if he was able to see through her. Her heart was
throbbing in panic and her hold on his hand loosened unconsciously. His hand moved up a few
inches instead and stopped on her scar. He touched it softly, feeling the uneven surface of the skin.
"Where was this from? How did he know about this?" he questioned in a rather icy voice.
Her heart skipped a beat and she realized that he was not done with the incident with Jeremy. She
had let her guard down too soon!
She pursed her mouth into a thin line and started to twist her hands aimlessly. Just before she
started to speak, his cold voice came, "Tell me the truth. No lies allowed!"
Her heart winced as she thought of what had happened. She sighed and answered in a low voice, "I
did it myself! I stabbed my leg."
Frederick was shocked and his eyes widened. Did she really hurt herself?
"What happened? Why?"
"I went to a hotel to deliver manuscripts... and well, I identally got drugged. I was scared that I''d
fall unconscious and that someone would r*pe... I was afraid of falling asleep, hence I stabbed
myself with a knife... Luckily, I met Jeremy. He saved me and took me to the hospital that day," she
exined.
Only then did she remember how Jeremy knew this ce. She bit her lower lip and continued, "He
was the one who sent me back here the next day!"
Upon hearing her words, Frederick suddenly recalled that when he drove back that day, he saw
Alicia covered by Jeremy''s clothes while getting out of Jeremy''s car. Did this happen that night...?
Did she hurt her body in order to protect herself?
