Chapter 991
Lillian could only knock on the door and ask, “Callum, are you okay? Should I inform Dave and have
a doctore check on you?”
However, the response she received was a profound silence. After some time, she finally heard a
hoarse voiceing from the room. “I-I’m fine. N-No need to get… the doctor.”
Every word Callum uttered came out with such difficulty.
When Lillian continued to inquire, all she heard was Callum’s voice. “Stop… talking. I want to be
alone! Lillian, consider it… as my plea to you.”
Lillian stopped talking and quietly stood guard at the room door.
Callum had no idea how he got through the night. It was as if he had been hollowed out. “This is my
mother’s way of treating her son, huh?” hemented inwardly.
When the sunlight streamed in through the curtains and bathed him in its glow, his eyshes
fluttered slightly. Then, he slowly opened his eyes.
He was disheveled and worn out. It had been a while since he felt this way.
Callum took a set of fresh clothes and entered the bathroom, allowing the warm water to wash over
his body.
His mind shed back to the events upon returning to the manor the night before.
He hade dangerously close to harming Lillian and the baby in her belly the night before.
Callum did not expect that the one causing him the deepest pain would be his biological mother.
A hint of ruthlessness shed in Callum’s eyes at the thought of that.
“Looks like I’ve been too amodating to her, to the extent that she thought she could manipte
me as she liked,” he said to himself.
However, Callum was no longer a child. He was no longer Ysabel’s pawn. Her ns had truly gone
awry.
Yet, Callum believed Ysabel was seething with anger at that moment.
After washing up, Callum changed his clothes and opened the room door. As soon as the door
opened, he was momentarily stunned.

Lillian was sound asleep at his bedroom’s entrance, cradling her pregnancy pillow. She had a quilt
beneath her and was covered with a nket. The noise from Callum opening the door caused her
to startle awake. Lillian instinctively opened her groggy eyes and looked at him.
She rubbed her eyes. Lillian’s actions reminded Callum of a cat washing its face! He could not help
but find her adorable in this state.
“Did she… stay outside my room door the whole night?” he wondered.
Callum instantly felt a warm sensation welling up in his chest. It spread through his veins. Right
then, he felt like crying.
This silly woman always managed to evoke his innermost emotions.
Immediately afterward, he heard her exim, “Callum, are you okay? Do you need medical
attention?”
As she asked, Lillian hastily rose to her feet. Her hands touched all over his body. She even tiptoed
and reached out to feel his forehead’s temperature.
“I’m fine now,” answered Callum.
Lillian could indeed feel that the temperature of his forehead had returned to normal. He was not
burning up like the night before anymore. Finally, she heaved a sigh of relief.
“Yesterday… Well, did you eat something you shouldn’t?” Lillian whispered.
Callum squinted his eyes and stared at Lillian.
She blushed and quickly added, “I-I’m just guessing! The way you were yesterday… It seemed
simr to a novel plot. Did someone set you up? Did they want to force themselves on you and turn
the situation into a marriage of convenience?”
Callum was not sure whether Lillian was brilliant or naive. At times, she seemed rather naive. Yet, in
moments like this, her guesses were surprisingly urate.
“Yes, someone framed me. But, there won’t be a next time for such matters,” he murmured.
As Callum spoke, his expression darkened, and a trace of coldness shed in his eyes.
On the other hand, Lillian was taken aback by his stern demeanor. She fell silent for a while. All she
felt at that moment was that he resembled a lurking beast. If anyone provoked him or became his
enemy, he
would deliver a fatal blow in the next second.
“What’s wrong?” Callum raised an eyebrow slightly, noticing the strange look on her face.
She mumbled, “I just found you… somewhat terrifying a moment ago.”
His eyes lit up slightly. “Lillian, I’m a terrifying man by nature. If you’re scared, you should return to
Strico
now.”
“I’m not going back!” she eximed. “Your frightening side is only directed at others, not me. I have
nothing to be afraid of!”
Lillian had said it so confidently and boldly that Callum was touched upon hearing her words.
“You’re quite presumptuous, aren’t you? What makes you think my frightening side isn’t directed at
you?” he asked with a cold smirk.
Lillian retorted, “Then, why did you restrain yourself before mest night? You were clearly in great
difort. Yet, you didn’t want to hurt me and would rather lock yourself up in the room.”
He pursed his thin lips. Her clear gaze, so intensely focused on him, made him feel somewhat
vulnerable. At that very moment, Callum felt worse than when he was struggling against the effects
of the drug the previous night.
It was as if her eyes could see right through him.
Callum abruptly turned his head. “Lillian, that’s enough!”
She tiptoed closer, leaning in gently to whisper in his ear, “Callum, you still love me, right?”
Her warm breath brushed against his ear, and it turned red instantly. Surprisingly, he did not know
how to refute her statement.
During breakfast, Lillian took out the uneaten cake from the fridge. She appeared somewhat
awkward yet hopeful, saying, “I kept this cake in the fridge. Although its texture might not be as
good as yesterday, it should still be okay. Do you… want a slice? I’ll remove the candles.
