Chapter 634
The doctor used a cotton ball soaked in alcohol to clean Esther''s wound. She endured the intense pain
with clenched teeth.
"When will she recover fully?" Chadwick asked.
"It depends on how well she takes care of herself," the doctor replied. "With proper rest and care, it''s
three to five days. But if she neglects herself, it could take a lifetime."
"You heard that? Take good care of yourself!" Chadwick reprimanded.
After treating the wound, Chadwick took Esther back home to the Pendleton residence.
Selene had changed into different clothes and was sitting on the living room sofa. When she saw
Esther and Chadwick, she raised an eyebrow and asked, "Didn''t you say you were meeting friends?"
Trying to please Selene, Chadwick sat beside her and massaged her shoulders. "Mom, I''m entrusting
your daughter-inw to you. Please, take good care of her."
Seeing her son''s indirect attempt to protect Esther, Selene responded with a cold hum. "Alright, just say
what you want to say. Don''t beat around the bush."
"Mom, my dearest mother, your daughter-inw just had her dressing changed at the hospital. The
doctor advised her to rest well. Please look after her," he said.
Selene snorted disdainfully. "Am I a wicked mother-inw?"
"Who said that? My mother is the most beautiful and the best mother-inw in the world!"
"Get lost!"
Chadwick yfully bowed. "Your son is leaving, Mom."
He nced at Esther, grabbed his car keys, and left, humming a tune.
Anger surged within Selene as she observed Esther, who seemed like a victim. "Sit."
Esther obediently took a seat across from Selene, appearing anxious and uneasy. She didn''t know how
to face Selene, let alone what Selene had in store for her.
Selene elegantly leaned back on the leather sofa, her scrutinizing gaze fixed on Esther as if assessing
merchandise.
Esther''s unease, fear, panic, and helplessness were all apparent to Selene. "Esther, in my eyes, you
are not suitable for my son."
Esther''s heart sank. When she married Bradley, it was because Thomas liked her. All she needed to do
was maintain a good rtionship with Bradley. This was Esther''s first experience with theplex
dynamics of being a daughter-inw.
"I understand you might be wondering why I say this when my son isn''t exceptional either. In fact, I
have to admit that my son is not outstanding. But as a mother, my child is the best in the world. I
believe you can understand that as a mother yourself.
"When you were with the Ansteys, Leah saw you as a problem and didn''t guide you properly. You''ve
only been back with the Quills for a short while, so you haven''t received proper guidance from them
either. Now that you''re marrying into my family, I will educate you properly.
"I''m not narrow-minded, and I don''t discriminate against second marriages. I believe everyone has the
right to pursue happiness. However, I will hold you to higher standards because you are the woman my
son has chosen. Don''t say you can''t do it. In this world, there''s nothing that can''t be done, only people
who can''t do it."
Selene''s voice carried an intimidating tone. Esther felt suffocated by the pressure.
"Today, I''ll give you your first lesson—how to be a wife."
Esther anxiously nodded.

Selene felt a hint of pity for Esther''s current state. But the thought of this woman spending her life with
her son hardened her heart once more.
"In the Pendletons, there has been no history of divorce.
"Once you marry into the Pendletons, you should be prepared to bemitted to the Pendleton family
for life."
