C10 – Failure


    School had just let out, yet the arena hall was bustling with people. This was no ordinary arena; there were several public ones, but this one was special. Some sses had their final period as a practical session, where soldiers led students in hands-onbat training. That’s why many lingered behind.


    As Lei Sheng and his group entered, recognition sparked among the onlookers. “Look, isn’t that Jiao Yuanju?” they whispered excitedly.


    Jiao Yuanju was a name now familiar to all. A neer with initially little renown, he had risen to fame by defeating Jing Dehai, the top Combat Pet master among the freshmen. Su Yun had be the talk of the school, earning the admiration of many.


    The crowd buzzed with spection upon seeing Jiao Yuanju and Lei Sheng arrive. “Could they be gearing up for another match?” they wondered.


    The anticipation was palpable as Jiao Yuanju and Lei Sheng took their ces on the stage. The dozens of spectators were electrified, their ns to leave forgotten. A match between Jiao Yuanju and Lei Sheng was headline-worthy news!


    Phones were whipped out as many began to record the event.


    Lei Sheng spoke with a frosty edge, “Jiao Yuanju, if you defeat me again, I will ept you with all my heart. I’ll join the Combat Pet squad and respect you as my leader.”


    Jiao Yuanju’s eyes sparkled with amusement. “Be sure you won’t regret it,” he retorted with a grin.


    “Let’s get started!”


    Lei Sheng was eager, his fighting spirit surging. He hailed from a prestigious lineage and had been bested by Jing Dehai in the past. He wouldn’t have given Jiao Yuanju a second nce if not for thetter’s surprise victory over Jing Dehai.


    Without a word from Jiao Yuanju, Eoldrai leapt from his shoulder in perfect sync. Despite its modest half-meter length, its unusual purple eyes and the trio of red lines on its forehead lent it an air of regality.


    Lei Sheng tapped the ck pet bag at his waist, a renowned piece of top-tier spatial equipment in the country. Created with advanced spatial technology, it was a mini-universe designed specifically for housing beast pets. Even the most basic ck pet bag was valued at a hefty five hundred thousand Alliance Coins.


    A streak of ck light zipped by, revealing a ck Mutant Beast. It seemed unassuming, yet its power was formidable.

    Jiao Yuanju peered at the system interface in his mind, his expression inscrutable. No one could guess his thoughts.


    “The battle is on the horizon. ck Wind Wolf versus Green Snake. Can Jiao Yuanju pull off aeback?”


    The surrounding crowd whipped out their cameras, cheering with excitement.


    Lei Shengmanded with an icy tone, “Wind de!”


    He was confident, but not foolish enough to repeat the mistake of letting Jiao Yuanju strike first like Jing Dehai did. That would be a humiliating blunder!


    The ck Wind Wolf unleashed a ferocious howl as six green beams burst forth from its jaws!


    “Eoldrai!”


    Jiao Yuanju silentlymanded. Eoldrai, having undergone its first special evolution, was an amalgam of dark, wind, and poison attributes. Its speed rivaled that of lightning, easily evading the Wind des. As they struck the arena’s edge, an unseen force dissolved them.


    Jiao Yuanju was about tomand Eoldrai to release the fog of darkness when more Wind des came slicing through the air, forcing Eoldrai to dodge once more.


    Lei Sheng’s sneer cut through the tension, “Trying to trap me in in sight? ck Wind Wolf, Wind Bite!”


    In a sh, the ck Wind Wolf lunged. Eoldrai was swift, but not purely of the wind element. Within two seconds, the ck Wind Wolf had closed in, its maw gaping, poised to cleave Eoldrai in two.


    Yet, Jiao Yuanju remained calm, contemting his next move.


    With a sudden bound, the green snake vaulted over the ck Wind Wolf’s assault. Its poison teeth bared, it aimed for a venomous strike.


    The ck Wind Wolf recoiled swiftly, and the twobat pets faced off once again.


    Then, seizing the moment, Jiao Yuanjumanded, “Fog of darkness!”


    Eoldrai’s belly ballooned as it began to expel an inky ck mist. Clearly, Eoldrai was at her most formidable when shrouded in darkness.


    “I knew you’d pull something like this!”


    Lei Sheng’s malice was hidden from view as the ck Wind Wolf suddenly unleashed seven Wind des, cutting off all of Eoldrai’s escape paths!


    “Is the Snake King going to be defeated?”


    Spectators gasped in disbelief. They had dubbed Jiao Yuanju the Snake King for his rise to fame at Azure Academy with just an ordinary green snake, earning him the illustrious title.


    The Wind des struck the green snake, now a blur within the fog of darkness, and detonated in a burst of force!


    “Good heavens, did that green snake just perish like that?”


    “The Snake King has fallen. Does this make Lei Sheng the new top contender of Azure Academy?”


    Sympathy washed over the crowd for Jiao Yuanju. The Snake King’s fame hadsted barely a day before his downfall, his pet in. It seemed his moment in the spotlight was fleeting.


    “The Snake King is insignificant!”


    A triumphant grin finally broke across Lei Sheng’s face.


    Suddenly, several streams of ck smoke surged from the fog, targeting the ck Wind Wolf.


    The ck Wind Wolfshed out in fury at a wisp of smoke, which dissipated instantly, but another elerated, revealing Eoldrai’s silhouette. It sank its teeth into the wolf’s back.


    The ck Wind Wolf frantically twisted to retaliate, but Eoldrai had already darted away like a bolt of lightning.


    “What?”


    The crowd was stunned by the turn of events, Lei Sheng’s face a picture of astonishment.


    Poison had taken hold of the ck Wind Wolf, and the match’s victor was clear.


    Jiao Yuanju himself was struggling to keep up. What ability was that?


    “System Alert: That was a tactical maneuver autonomously executed by the pet, not an innate ability.”


    Watching Eoldrai nuzzle him affectionately, Jiao Yuanju marveled at the creature’s cunning use of strategy.


    Once Lei Sheng had cured the ck Wind Wolf of its poison, he stowed it away. He pulled out twenty thousand Alliance Coins from his backpack with a stony expression and strode off, eager to leave the scene. The looks from the surrounding crowd fueled his rage; he couldn’t stand being bested by Jiao Yuanju—an ordinary man!


    Having witnessed it all, Hong Yangqiu was inwardly shaken, yet he kept his silence. He cast a meaningful nce at Jiao Yuanju before departing with Lei Sheng.


    Jiao Yuanju stashed the money in his backpack, a look of contentment on his face. He had made the money he was due. Upon seeing the “2” disyed as blood points on his system panel, he sensed it was a night to take action. Little did he know, the evening’s skirmish had propelled his fame to new heights at Azure Academy.
